I'm waiting one more day for the aforementioned matches.  I've heard from Duck and Serra so far.  If you're in one of the outstanding matches, please complete your match by tonight!  There are a fair number of people that are waiting on you!

Sorry Prospero, I've exchanged a few PMs with Ruboonia and was hoping we would play our match tonight, but we weren't able to arrange a time. Let me know how you want to proceed -- I completely understand if you need to DQ me so that the tournament can go on.

That was completely my fault. I was on call and couldn't get an hour off. How about tonight? When are you free?

Hey Stormy,

Thanks for the videos of your match.  What software did you use to record them?  I'd like to get it setup for my match.

Just Quicktime 10. I'm on a mac. It was really simple. You just do "new screen recording" and hit record.

I don't think I'll have free time tonight unfortunately. I could do tomorrow morning? I should also be free Thursday and Friday night.

1 misty rainforest
2 underground sea
2 volcanic island
2 tropical island
2 city of brass
2 island
1 black lotus
1 mox sapphire

1 mox ruby
1 mox emerald
1 sol ring
1 mana crypt
4 force of will
3 mana drain
3 mental misstep
1 spell snare
1 ancestral recall
1 brainstorm
2 preordain
3 jace the mind sculptor
1 timewalk
1 demonic tutor
1 vampiric tutor
1 mystical tutor
1 merchant scroll
1 gifts ungiven
1 ponder
1 tinker
1 yawgmoths will
1 hurkyls recall
1 ancient grudge
2 natures claim
2 engineered explosives
1 senseis divining top
1 voltaic key
1 time vault
1 blightsteel colossus

sideboard
3 ingot chewer
4 leyline of the void
3 yixlid jailer
1 hurkyls recall
1 rebuild
1 dismember
1 red elemental blast
1 mountain

Game 1 he won the roll and led volcanic island, goblin welder, I misstepped. I spent a little time setting up and he was stuck on 1 land for a while then he got to 3 mana, 2 of which were moxes so i ran out explosives at 0 and sent him down to 1 land. I resolved a recall while misstepping his. I eventually set up key vault.
Game 2, he was again stuck on 1 land, and led with turn 1 ancestral which I misstepped. The game goes on for a while. I then resolve a jace and get 1 brainstorm out of him and he lightning bolts him. we play draw go for a while and i set up a turn of timewalk, into gifts with Force back up. But not before he casts snapcaster into ancestral which resolves. i give him the option of giving me tutors to find will or tinker/lotus. off the gifts. I cast will with drain, force backup and he scoops.

He was unfortunately mana short in both games, but game two actually turned into a pretty good game.

Yeah I played Jeff Anand's slaver deck from the grudge match.  Both games I was under the gun from the get go. Despite playing 17 lands I could not seem to find them. Game one was just a blood bath getting destroyed by his counterspells. G2 started out rocky as I was stuck on lands but eventually built out of it. At some point Allen went for a Jace and we got into a slight counter war which he won. I untapped bolted the jace and tapped out to snapcaster recall. Unfortunately I was one mana short of playing my own jace to fateseel him with him having brainstormed  already.  My hand was also forced to tapout on his turn because I was pretty sure he was holding drain. Recall didn稚 get me anywhere and he untapped and cast walk + gifts then drew yawgwill off the top on the timewalk turn.

Please start your second round.

I had hoped to do this in an organized fashion, where we had one round per week, but it seems that isn't possible.  I'll advance the pairings as I get results.

xxtsundaybxx and I just finished

I won 2-1

Game 1:
He mulls to 5 and I open with turn 1 fastbond, into vamp into ponder.  I then proceed to double gush, and then ancestral and land a remora.  The game is pretty much over at this point due to sheer card advantage but a landed tinker a couple turns later seals the deal.

Game 2:
I kept a greedy hand with a turn 1 remora, and turn 2 goyf.  He however opened with land, lotus, merchant scroll for ancestral.  He quickly buries me in card advantage.  I managed to hang on for a while just due to the sheer number of threats I had to drop, but he resolves a Yawg-will and sets up vault key for the win.

Game 3:
He got stuck on 1 land for the entirety of this game.  I tried my best to bait out his counter spells early on so that I could resolve a goyf.  My plan succeeds and I land it.  He then attempts to resolve a Jace cracking Lotus to cast it.  Jace meets Force of Will and the game is sealed by a 5/6 Goyf.

Overall good games.  Had a lot of fun playing.  I know I'm probably forgetting some of the details here, and I didn't get time to setup recording, but maybe Sunday can fill in some of the missing pieces.

Onto the next Round!

2 Island
4 Underground Sea
1 Black Lotus
1 Sol Ring
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Pearl

1 Voltaic Key
4 Snapcaster Mage

1 Merchant Scroll
1 Brainstorm
1 Tinker
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Yawgmoth's Will
1 Hurkyl's Recall
2 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Library of Alexandria
1 Mana Crypt

1 Gifts Ungiven
3 Swords to Plowshares
3 Tundra
1 Flusterstorm

SB: 4 Leyline of the Void
SB: 2 Yixlid Jailer
SB: 1 Swords to Plowshares
SB: 3 Serenity
SB: 1 Kataki, War's Wage
SB: 1 Balance
SB: 1 Misdirection
SB: 1 Flusterstorm
SB: 1 Tormod's Crypt

----

Round one against evouga:

Game one: We fought over his early Ancestral. I played a Drain and a FOW and he only had a FOW. From there, I dropped a Jace and generated enormous card advantage before beating him with his own Forbidden Orchard tokens and Snapcaster Mage.

Game two: I didn't have much to bring in against him (anyone else with ideas?), so I just threw in my 4th STP and a Misdirection. He mulled to four and I kept a sketchy six. His hand was actually quite broken--mox, mox, mox, tinker --> Blightsteel. I didn't have a FOW, but I did fortunately have STP in my opening seven. Again I generated enormous card advantage (from LoA this time) before assembling Vault/Key.

Fun games, though his deck didn't take off either game. Thanks, evouga.

I beat Ambivalent Duck in 3.

Game 1 I mull a hand of Thorn, Metalworker, Lightning Greeves, and Mana but no Wasteland.  ON 6 I keep a hand with business, but only Wasteland as a land.  He doesn't have early Bazaar though and I don't draw any mana.  He eventually draws a Bazaar, digs once to no dredger.  I waste.  He draws another Bazaar and I was dead shortly therafter.

Game 2 He mulled to three.  I opened with Jet, Cage, Academy, Thorn.  Next turn, Waste his Bazaar and play Crucible.  Next turn Kuldotha and eventually killed him with poision.

Game 3 I open with Mox, Lotus, Mana Vault, Kuldotha Forgemaster, Grafdigger's Cage. Next turn I play Mox, Double Pithing Needle.  He Ingot Chewers my Cage and in response I get Blightsteel.  The 2/2 zombie he got blocked to leave him at 9 poison, but I Kuldothaed again for a Lodestone and he didn't have two mana nor the Chain of Vapor.

He lead a Wasteland on the play.  I had 2x Undiscovered Paradise and a Nature's Claim in hand, but no dredgers.  I elected to wait on playing Bazaar until I had something more productive to do with it.  He ended up being severely mana-screwed and my first bazaar activation found another Bazaar (but still no dredgers).

Just wanted to clear that up.  Kind of disappointing losing to a deck with 5 pieces of Dredge hate based on opening hands.  That's how Vintage is sometimes, though.

This I've found to be the most frustrating fact of Dredge.  No matter how poorly prepared for the match up your opponent is you can simply lose because you can't draw a good hand.  This happened to me recently at a local tournament against dredge.  4 main deck nature's claims and I lost game 1 because I had to mull to 1.  That if anything is the balancing point of Dredge.  On one side it is extremely sharp and fast, but if you get unlucky you can just take yourself out of a match by mulling to death.

I took the match 2-0

G1: I win the roll and start with plains, vial and I pass the turn. I have a fetch too but decide not to crack it. I use my vial to get Noble, then pridemage, then another pridemage the next turn. He had a lot of spheres but those were dead cards because of Vial. I win the game pretty easy after wasting a tomb and he is left with a city of traitor and a mox. With 2 spheres he can't really do much there. GG

G2: I have a good hand with land, mox, vial, stp, bob, noble, kataki, pridemage. He starts with a turn 1 Worker and I respond with stp and vial. Turn 2 he casts a Golem. I draw another land and cast Kataki. He pays for the upkeep cost with wasteland and swings. He has no other land and passes. I have to pay for mox and vial too, but that is no issue. I vial in pridemage and swing. Next turn I let him pay and attack. I take out the golem at combat with pridemage. He plays crucible the next turn but meanwhile I have a ranger in play and thalia. I Quarter his wasteland and he loses the crucible to Kataki. He congrats me and concedes.

I beat Ruboonia 2-0.  Luck wasn't on his side as he mulled to 5 game 1 (I mulled to 6), and I got down a first turn dark confidant which I rode to the win.  Game 2 we were both sort of staring each other down as he had a few counters and I had a few answers but didn't want to go off prematurely and get shut down.  While we were waiting each other out, I drew more gas than he did (and he drew more mana than I did).  When it came time for me to combo out, he didn't have anything to stop me.

Oh speaking of game 1, as I recall Ruboonia spent awhile deciding whether to mull to 6 or not, then wound up having to go down to 5.  What was in the 7 hand?

I beat Quicksilvervii 2-0.

In both games he laid down early standstills with no threat on the board which is a game state my deck can take advantage of. An early stoneforge mystic is a play that is much tougher for me to handle, but luckily that wasn't the case either game. In game 1, I get bazaar squee going after he standstills and I can let the game go long until I can crack standstill and lay down a sculpted hand of beef after beef after beef. When he lays down a batterskull he is having to contend with teeg, 13/13 knights of the reliquary, pridemages, and devout witness. If he had hit timewalk he might have gotten more value out of the Jaces he plays after fire/iceing my teeg and recovered but time walk didnt happen.

In game 2, I answer his turn two wasteland with a life from the loam and when he later lays a standstill with no threat I am again able to get bazaar + 2 squee going and build up mana while he is only on 2 mana. When I get to strip with life in the yard and him with on only 2 land he scoops.
