How did it go? I'm not going to be there next week either since I'll be at Google IO.

Just to be sure, you will still be around Saturday correct?

Haha luckily I have seen enough of those to get the general idea of what they look like  Wink

Unfortunately, some last minute stuff came up and I wasn't able to make it. My apologies if that messed anyone up. Looking forward to saturday though! What time does this thing start?

Oh shit. So you were not the rando commando on Belcher? That guy got shown a ton of Mana Drain and Flusterstorm. We still had ten people even with a bunch of regulars MIA.

Set start time is 6:30, but we're a bit flexible if people are a little late. (I'm looking at you Clark)

I'd come but I'm currently in San Francisco. The trip would be difficult.

Great turnout last night again!  A whopping 13 people.  Some great matches were had by all.  Thanks to all who came out.

A special thanks to Clark for stepping up to do out the pairings since Event Reporter crapped out again.  Hopefully not that I'm set up with DCI reporter we won't have that problem again.

And now on to more pressing business:

From here on out the prize split will always be the same as outlined below.  This will avoid any confusion and any possible conflict of interest.

1st: 40% of the prize pool
2nd: 30% of the prize pool
3rd: 15% of the prize pool
4th: 15% of the prize pool

This model is bad for smaller tournaments as it means everyone may walk away with very little credit, but with the turnouts we've been getting lately it is really the fairest way to divide it up.

Thanks again to everyone for helping spread the word an help bring the Boston Vintage scene back from the dead.

I like this, with the caveat that I think it should apply only to events >8. <=8 should be all between the top 2. (66% to 1st, 33% to 2nd)

We can talk about it, but I think making it consistent makes it less confusing plus gives people more incentive to get more people to come.

I think this could be simpler with $5 increments instead of %s.  Also, I like the idea of '#Rounds - 1 place' always getting their entry back.  Eg...

Tourney size 6-7 (3 rounds)
1st - (6-7)*5-5 = 25-30
2nd - 5

Tourney size 8-15 (4 rounds)
1st - (8-15)*5-20 = 25-60
2nd - 10
3rd - 5

It tilts towards 1st place a little, but I think it's good to de-incentivize splitting.

No need for splits on Tuesday nights -- we cut straight to top 4, right?

My thought process in making it a standard percentage is that no matter what the week we know exactly what the prize payout structure will be.  The constant change in payout makes it hard to make sure nothing goes wrong and there is no confusion.

You can do something like my approach and it will be just as predictable, just in increments of tourney entry instead of awarding people fractions of dollars.

I agree that something like this could work as well.  The only problem is this changes the number of people who will get a payout each week.  I like the idea of being able to say that the top 4 always get something but in some cases this means that you'll be getting less than your entry fee back.

I am all for doing whatever everyone agrees is the best, I just want to make sure we agree on something and have it be the same every week.

No need for splits on Tuesday nights -- we cut straight to top 4, right?

Since there is no cut to top-x and prizes are based on swiss standings, we won't get a split amongst top 4.  I don't think there is any way to disincentivize splitting between the top 2 if the opportunity arises...if the difference between 1st and second is large, then the top 2 facing each other in the last round may choose to split since they dont want to risk so much on one game, if it's small they may decide to split if they are tired.

I like the percentage structure a lot, it's easy to understand, can be consistently stated, and spreads out the prize a bit more than forcing $5 increments and/or using a 1st heavy split.  This is important if we want to grow and be successful.   It will be much more inviting for newcomers if the top4 all get something nice rather than just 1st place for an event of this size.

I see no problem receiving credit amounts in multiples of quarters, scholars has been using this splitting structure for Monday night Vintage for a while, and there you'd get credit in multiples of 80 cents due to it's entry fee/credit conversion, no one ever complains about this.

We pay tax on credit transactions anyway at pandemonium, so people don't naturally carry whole dollar credit balances like they do at Myriad, so I see no need to force multiples of $5.

Thanks man.  I got pretty lucky with my deck giving me whatever I needed at the critical moments.  Really nice deck developed by Inaki over on the TPS+Griselbrand thread.  Probably helps that all the good shops pilots couldn't make it last night...

Another Important Announcement!

I will be away on Travel again this week and as such will be unable to facilitate the tournament.  (Sorry this keeps happening...hopefully my job will get back to a normal schedule some point soon).  That being said you guys are welcome to show up and run the event should someone be willing to do the paperwork.  The store has no problem assisting where possible either.

That being said, we've been getting some great numbers for these events and I would really like to see those numbers keep growing!  So spread the word!

As an aside, I feel like something should be said to the regards of what happened at the last event.  I do understand that this is a very casual tournament and we are all friends here.  With that in mind please be respectful of each others matches and do your best not to disrupt anyone who is playing.  In that light if you feel your match is being disrupted please notify whoever the TO of the event is (myself, gavin, or if either of us are not there, any of the store employees can help).

Thanks all!  And lets keep drawing cards, tapping lands and swinging with ..... ah who am I kidding we don't need creatures!

Definitely in. These are great events and a good way to get in some quality matches and participate in some real vintage innovation. Which, btw, should be our new corporate mission statement.
