I thought of a fun idea for a side event. Players who enter get to bid on what deck they want to play out of a pool of famous historical magic decks. There would be one copy of each deck and the decks should probably be unpowered (classic extended and standard decks). It might be hard to balance everything but it would be a lot of fun.
Sample List:
Trix
Psychatog
Goblins (old extended)
Necro
ProsBloom
Hatred
Sligh (Tempest Era)
High Tide (old extended)
Pandeburst
Rebels
TEPS
SquirrelCraft
Fires
Wildfire
GhostHusk
Angry Hermit
The Rock (Invasion Era)
CounterSlivers
Pebbles

Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I actually keep a 16 deck metal Rook Case with old standard and block decks and I've thought about doing this many times.  I have about 30 decks total, and was planning to get to 100 decks when EDH became popular and ruined my opportunity to finish this project at an affordable price.

Definitely a cool idea, but the possibility of theft stopped me from actually doing it.  I didn't want to loan at 8 or more decks at one time to make it happen.

Fair enough.

I would imagine that the most realistic version of this is one in which the old top eight decks from Worlds are auctioned off.  They're gold bordered, so I would imagine that they're not insanely expensive.

Yeah most likely the best way.  Even those decks go for decent money now, compared to the $10 they used to be retail.  Crazy times!  I'd play in it too.  Go go Mr. TO man.

Lurker101, are you referring to the Auction of the People?

There are several different variations you can put on the rules of the auction that make it easier to balance.

I have played in such a tournament and it was a ton of fun.  KCI ended up taking it down.

I'd never heard of that but it's pretty much exactly what I had in mind. If I had the resources to do this I would but unfortunately I don't.  If anyone ends up trying this I'd love to hear how it goes.

It's a fun format when everyone knows how much life/hand size to bid based on the relative power level of the decks being auctioned. Otherwise, you might end up with one person getting a super powerful deck with a low bid who just dominates. Making the 60 or 75 public to everyone beforehand helps to prevent that.

I agree. Ideally decklists should be public. Also decks cannot contain cards outside of the format and era that they were dominant in. If sideboards were to be included then they would consist of general hate cards (like Chill) or players could construct there own sideboards out of a limited card pool of general hate cards.
