With the summer open just around the corner, and considering vintage tournaments come just once every month, are there any strange things people do every tournament day or week leading up to a tournament to hope for a better outcome?

I like playing with a freshly sleeved deck.  I have blue dice, blue sleeves, a blue deck box and I track life totals in blue pen.  I don't think this makes me superstitious, but I do like the color blue.

I'm getting a sick read that you may or may not an avid fan of the band Blue Man Group.

As far as superstitions go, I do very poorly if I don't take 10 minutes to focus/listen to music before a tournament. It helps me get in the zone.

Not so much, but this may explain my affinity for Yankee pinstripes and my loathing of the Red Sox.

I think I tend to perform better in tournaments in which I use brand new sleeves.  Perhaps they make me shuffle better!

Depends on the company you keep...

Red Sox fans are allowed to wear that shirt.  If you root for any other team than the Red Sox, and you're wearing that shirt, you clearly don't understand baseball.

I am not a red sox fan, but deffinetly understand basebal. I think it's fair to say every fan of a team other than the Yankees has at least a small hatred towards them

So you're actively rooting against a team that is outside of your division, potentially outside of your league, because they have a high payroll?  The Phillies have a $172,092,902 payroll.  Does this make them America's Cinderella team?  The Yankees sell more merchandise for MLB than any other team; merchandise sales in MLB are divided amongst the 30 teams.  The Yankees also contribute more than any other team in the luxury tax.  They draw more people to the ballparks that they show up to, they draw more viewers for national broadcasts (the revenues of which are, again, divided amongst the 30 teams).  Just because the Steinbrenners are the antithesis of owners like the Glass, or Pohlad families, doesn't mean that any vitriol is warranted.

See, if you root against the Yankees, and you're not a Red Sox fan, or even a fan of a team in the A.L. East, then it's not hatred, it's jealousy that's driving you.  Let's at least be honest with ourselves.  If you're outside of the AL East then you'll play the Yankees 6-9 times a year, out of 162 games.  If you're outside the American League you may not play them at all.  How can you hate a team you barely play, if you play them at all?

EDIT: The Yankees are a big reason why 29 other teams receive more than $80,000,000 from MLB annually in order to field a team.

Im not activey rooting against them. I understand they have the greatest legacy of any sports team, and they help out the league, they are just an easy team to dislike, and many people can agree. The phillies do have a very high payroll, but their superstars were all farm raised (utley, howard, previously victorino & werth, rollins) witht he eception of lee and halladay which were recent acquisitions.  My post about the shirt was meant as a joke in response to your post about being an avid yankees fan, and im sorry if ive gotten on your badside/upset you

No worries man I completely understand. I think we can both agree that baseball is an awesome sport, and hopefully this thread can see some more positive posts.

Every morning before a tournament, I slaughter and drink the blood of a leprechaun.  After each round, I also pull out one of the baby bunnies from my backpack, break off one of its feet and brush my deckbox with its fur (be careful not to get bunny blood on any sleeves, or they consider it marking your deck!).

I usually drink heavily the night before.

Not sure if this is superstition as much as it is habit.
