It is substantially more than a MED1 redraft. The high estimate on the number of playsets of FoW released in last months ME drafts based on rate-of-fire was 50 playsets, they do those 2-3 times per year. This puts out 250 playsets at a minimum at a single time...about 2 years worth. And this is what they do in January of the year they release vintage, if it's not enough, they will likely do more.

It's better than nothing, but this is nowhere near enough to put a dent in the demand for Force. It's the same thing each time they run more MED1 events to release more into the wild. Short term panic selling will drop the price a little bit, but Force will be back over $100 in short order. Stupid product management.
Because of the new method of MOC qualification will put the number of FOW injected into the system as somewhere between 2x and 5x more than the last release. But more importantly, it's the method of release. There will be no slow trickle of FOW - it'll be a massive dump. The slow trickle method has two problems - 1) it allows bots to suck up the cards slowly and invisibly. Almost no one puts selling ads in classifieds - they just disappear invisibly behind the scene - and thus there is no real competition for pricing. 2) The optics will cause most bot owners to lower their buying price drastically. This is important because it'll allow actually players to be the 1st buyer of the card. Prices tend to rise when the 1st buyer of the card has no intention of playing, but turning card for profit. No I'm pretty sure the price will come down. EDIT: Or, you know, just wait 10 minutes. The announcement has already plummeted the price to 88.

I assume that if WotC launches Vintage online they will also be providing support to the format. In the shape or form of Premier Event, sanctionned tournaments, etc.
If this comes true it would mean that vintage would get, for the first time ever in the last 15 years, the support it did not have form WotC. It might look irrelevant, but in reality it is a game-changing move. More people would be attracted if they make the cards available at reasonable prices. You do not hav eto own a full kernel to play vintage, it did not use to be like that. If like me you were playing Magic in 1994 you know what i mean.
If the cards will be available (and given we are talking of online cards, they can make them as available as they want) it would probably be possible to enter the fomat with a relatively small investment comparable to the investment you need to make to play Constructed on MTGO.
The interactions i see with the paper game are enormous, already the paper P9 prices are surging in anticipation. Big dealers are buying, starcity is buying P9 at prices higher than ever. There will be more people playing, and unavoidably, more decks will see playing, more cards and synergies will be exploited.
How can anyone - who plays vintage - not like the idea of Vintage getting some breath of new fresh air ?

I would love to try Vintage online. In fact that is the only way I can ever experience Vintage, the place where I live doesn't even support any standard or edh play really, plus I have a family so available hours for me are kinda weird (in the middle of a night usually). I posted a question in other thread: http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=45317.msg625788;boardseen#newI have been picking up the restricted cards (as one-ofs) that have been released online and I own already most of them and use some of them in Commander (or Pauper - Ponder & Lotus Petal) On top of that I have been collecting some of the ABU Duals and Onslaught fetches (mainly as one-ofs to be used in Commander decks) and I own full playsets of Zendikar fetches (picked them all up since they are also Modern legal). Now is it a good way to proceed by acquiring the remaining cards from the restricted list and getting full playsets of ABU Duals and ONS fetches? That is my thought because at least they are useful in Legacy and building up a collection from landbase seems just like a good idea.
Are there some really cheap Vintage staples that I should look out? That is still relevant. Any thoughts are appreciated!

some years ago (like 8, feels like yesaterday) i used to play Vintage whenever i had the chance to. that beeing said, the chances to play with those cards got smaller and smaller in the playgroup and area i live in. (germany, that is) at some point i sold all my Alpha/Beta Power and even the rest of the high valuables and stopped playing it at all.
when Power 9 will be released online, i will slowly crawl back into the format, i suppose an so will my old Vintage mates, who dont even own an account now. there are like no regular Vintage tournaments around here, so this will be a welcome opportunity for us to gunsling. some of my mates might even sell some expensive RL cards to buy into Vintage online.
FoWs price is kinda high, i have to admit, but making it accessible in huge numbers because of its current price doesnt actually seem to be too appealing. you know, there are plenty of guys who have spend mayor bucks on those and i dislike the fact to ruin those guys investments. of course i understand the wish lower the price, but imo the best way to do this is to slowly and carefully provide ME1 drafts/sealeds. wont cause a mayor decrease in price, but might secure some fair price evolution.
that beeing said, people seem to forget that investing into digital object doenst equal throwing money out of the window. cards can be sold/traded. even with profit if u are patient and smart. so getting back your investment should be no problem at all, heck i would even argue that it is even easier to move cards online than in RL. and u skip the transaction costs like ebay fees, postal costs ect.
last but not least, FoW is expensive. i hear you. at the same time, other Vintage staples are really, really cheap compared to the RL prices. Bazaar for 10 a piece, Shop at 22ish you name it. yeah, investing into digital objects seems weird at first. however, ask someone not familiar with MTG at all about investing into real cards and you will earn the same raised eyebrows.

comparing those to RL prices, yes, they come cheap.
however, lots of Vintage staples have seen some price increase during the last month. be it normal version or the foil one. (to those who didnt know: yes, online you can play with Foil FoW, Foil Workshop, Foil Duals ect) so to sum it up: i would be quick about obtaining stuff you really need

The 20 years anniversary is approaching, and still no news on how will WotC bring Vintage to MTGO (a they announced at the beginning of the year). Have we lost any hope ?

Not yet! Wizards has been slow on all things to do with magic online. It will come, and I am looking forward to it!
