Episode 7 of our #SeriousVintage podcast sees Geoff Moes (@ThallidTosser) and me (@GrandpaBelcher) catch up with Anthony “Twaun” Michaels (@Twaun007) after his finals appearance with Twaunspresso Stax at the December 30 Team Serious Open in Columbus, Ohio. We also look at the early Gatecrash previews and review food options at the Columbus Convention Center, specifically North Market.

Here’s the timestamped table of contents for your listening ease and enjoyment. If you’re avoiding spoilers, be sure to skip far enough forward to avoid our talking about new cards.

00:23 – The Return of Twaun P. Pwnertown
01:25 – Gatecrash and Burn
25:56 – Twaunspresso Stax Takes Two at the TSO
42:43 – Serious Eats at the North Market
52:18 – Outro

Total runtime: 52:54

Let us know if you have any comments! We'll be around.

Past few years when I hit the CCC (Origins, random SCG events) I have to have Press Grilles meatloaf.

As an update, Twaun dominated another tournament with his Shops build: http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=44935.0

As for Press Grille, I've never been there, but their menu looks awesome. Maybe we'll hit that place up after the next tournament.

4 Wasteland

4 Mishra’s Workshop
4 Ancient Tomb

Looks like Vinnie's GenCon list with Factories instead of Ports, but more power to Twaun for winning with Espresso.  It's a great deck.  Very interesting sideboard, too.  Looks like something that Roland was trying back in 2008/2009, before he quit.

Press Grill is good, but there are lots of excellent options in the Short North.

First, The Rossi is probably my favorite inexpensive in the short north.  It's got an UNBELIEVABLE ham and swiss (guyere) sandwich.

And, if you haven't had it before, you have to try Northstar Cafe.  Everything on their menu is good.  If you haven't had their brunch, you have to try that as well.

Twaun misrepresented so many aspects of our match, you have to read my report to actually understand what happened :p  For example, he didn't even mention that I destroyed his Academy with mine, and that he played Chalice for 0 to get mana off Academy, but that cut him off from further mana sources.

Nick, I don't think anyone's saying I invented Espresso Stax. I just tweaked and tuned the archetype to my liking.

Steve, there was a ton of stuff that went wrong in my match vs you. I've mostly deleted it from memory and replaced it with images of Muhamad Ali for training purposes.
