So...I couldn't tell you the last time I've played vintage. It's been years probably. I love the format so much though that I refuse to play any other. It's not that I haven't had the cards or the time, just no one to play with.

Well I've moved recently. The wife and I had a baby in December, her dad said if we moved closer to them he would buy us a house. So I found a job by them and quit my old one. We moved in with her parents for about a month while they got everything in order.

Now we are in our own place and settled in a bit, I went to the card shop here for the first time. It was pretty depressing. A decent selection of singles,  but no one playing.

I sat down at one of the tables for a while and waited to see if anyone would show up. I started to mess with the sideboard in my Stax deck while I was there and had my cards out on the table, moxes and all. A few people came and went, when they walked by and looked at my cards none even blinked an eye at them. I went up to the counter and looked at what they were getting and it was all standard stuff.

I ended up leaving without even talking to anyone but the shop owner. He directed me to a flyer he had on the wall by the door on my way out. He said no one here played vintage at all. He said that in a city about an hour away there were some people though, and the flyer was for their Facebook group.

So when I got home I got on it and asked if anyone would be interested in getting together on the weekends.

I've gotten about 15 replies so far with people who are powered and want to get some tournaments going.
Since tomorrow is the super bowl we aren't doing anything, but next weekend we are all getting together to play and figure out how to go about setting up a tournament scene!

This sounds sweet!

I have not heard back from you, but I understand that you are busy.  I was wondering where you guys might be getting together to play?  I am going to be free next weekend, and I would love to play some vintage, and I am sure that my brother would be interested in going as well!  I would really appreciate it man, and I look forward to getting a vintage scene going in Louisiana.  Very Happy

Sorry I have not emailed you back.

Between the new job and adjusting to waking up at 5:30, moving and unpacking, and the newborn...

I don't know where all my days are going, time is flying by.

I'm going to be driving to Lafayette next weekend to meet a couple people to play. It would be sweet if you could make it, I know it's a lot farther for you though. It's only about an hour and a half for me.

I totally understand man, its no problem at all!

Actually, Lafayette is a lot closer to me than Lake Charles!  It is about an hour and a half trip for me as well.  Smile

What store were you guys planning to get together at?

Sounds great man!  That place is great.  If they are too crowded for some reason, there is another card shop/comic book store right across the street with some tables.

This is extremely exciting!  Are you guys going on Saturday or Sunday, and do you have any particular time in mind?

I really appreciate the info. Thanks!

It's gonna be Saturday,  but we haven't set a time yet.

Any preference?

Saturday sounds great.  I am up for anytime from noon till they close, but I could always show up earlier if needed.

This is excellent news that I'm very glad to hear.  If you haven't already, reach out to H on TMD.  He lives in LA, though I don't know where (he's an ex-pat New Yorker).  He'd definitely be interested.

Also, if any of these guys want TMD accounts, reach out to me via PM and I can create them.

Best of luck to you both!

I just reached out to H, and I look forward to hearing back from him.  Hopefully he can make it!

I'm probably going to suck lol, I haven't played a game of magic in about a year.

And that was just smashing standard and legacy decks with my vintage one.  I haven't played against a good vintage player in probably....5+ years?

Thats fine man.  I have not played competitive vintage since GenCon last year, or any type of competitive magic for that matter.  It will be nice to get back into the swing of things.

This is great news.

I  have a six month old boy and time flies by quick, so i know what u mean, Risingwater Smile

I am thinking of starting a scene here locally. I'm in San Antonio,Tx though. My wife has family close to Lake charles but who knows when we would  head on over there Sad

It would be cool to build a network of  Vintage Tourneys from LA and TX... eventually. At least thats one of my goals regarding Vintage Smile

PM me with ideas or comments

May you be blessed in your endeavors.

That would be great! Best of luck to you in starting something up over there!  I may be able to to attend a tournament or two in Texas if I am not taking summer classes.

Just got home, will respond to PMs soon, got a TV to hook up so we can watch the game later.

Indeed, I actually responded in that Facebook thread, yesterday.  We are going to get something going too.  We might do it at And Books Too (Dustin, Aaron and I are more friendly with the guys who run the place).  There is a ton of room there too, so not really a concern for that, we currently do Legacy FNMs there now.  We will be in touch, most certainly.

I'd be fine with doing it at and books too,

It's Just every time I've been to the shops in Lafayette, no one's been at and books.

The problem with the other shop is they are sort of a ripe on prize support and they really just take advantage of Stanard player who, honestly, don't really know better.

We play Legacy FNMs at AB2 but we can hammer out details in the Facebook group too.

I would be up for playing at And Books too this weekend in favor of Anime and Games Central.. I used to play in the Legacy FNMs there.  Either place is fine though!
