The first week of the first season of the Atlanta Yawgmoth's Cup got started with a strong 8  Smile showing up to do battle on the hallowed campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

The Season One prize is a Force of Will playmat

We just played 4 rounds with no top 4. The season winner is determined by total points. The breakdown was as follows.

2 x Dredge (Chewer, Unmask main and Chewer, Leyline main in the other, neither with Dread Return or Fatestitcher)
1 x Pyroclamp (Young Pyromancer, Skullclamp, Blue stuff)
1 x Pyrogush
1 x Doomsday Oath
1 x Stony Bant Fish (with Stifle)
1 x Caged Fury!
1 x Wizards! (me ... who forgot his Time Walk at home and refused to proxy one Wink)

The winner was Caged Fury, besting Dredge twice, absolutely beating me senseless and losing to Stony Bant.

I played ... the Wizards who Time Forgot (or who forgot their beta Time Walk) ...

Round 1) I ended up getting mauled by Zoo in two games. Game one just getting raced by Toilet Legionnaire and Grim Lavamancer (Misstepped my Misstep). I just had no way to block Toilet man and he just raped me. I ended up Hurkyl'ing him (the card I subbed for Time Walk) to buy a turn. Game two I thoughtseized Lotus on the play so I wouldn't have to stare down Thalia and Goyf. I thought I could maybe draw into Snare / STP / Force. I drew many Confidants and not much removal. I did get to shoot Thalia in the face with my firewalker.

Round 2) Pyrogush. Game one I need a land that can make non-Wizard black and 21 cards into my deck with 2 Confidants humming along I don't find one. He assembles Vault Key at a moderately low life total from my Clique beats and wins. Game two I get Bob again and I remember my miser's Flusterstorm being a savage beating as well as Meddling Mage on Gush. Game three he gets hosed and mulls to 5 (?). I get turn one Bob. This is pretty much too much to overcome, in this game he put Ancestral Recall on the stack ... I respond with Lotion Thief off cavern ... he Missteps his own recall ... I misstep his misstep  Very Happy This is too much to deal with and he scoops off the bad beats.

Round 3) Doomsday Oath Pile. Game one I have 3 mana up and he has three cards. He casts Oath, I have Force, spell snare and Aven Mindcensor. If his last two cards are ritual, doomsday I shouldn't spell snare here. I Spell Snare the Oath. He ritual doomsdays and I can't live the ultimate dream of Mindcensoring a doomsday. Nice pile! He screws up the pile anyway and I win through damage as he had to pass the turn. Game two we fight for a bit and he eventually lands Oath and I STP his Lab Man during upkeep. He still has a yard full of stuff, so I Meddling Mage on Will (correct I think) -- he forces. I wonder then why he didn't Force the Swords ... he does as well. He ends up Yawg Willing and realizing he'd sided out Tendrils for Abrupt Decay. Storm was about 20 when he conceded.

Round 4) Dredge. I win the game he mulls to oblivion. Game 1 I spell bomb on the eve of 16 power worth of zombies and it doesn't matter. Game 3 I land 3 (?) Yixlid Jailers with a Darkblast in exile and still lose after Firestorm blows me out.

Overall donuts were eaten and good times were had. If I get the other exciting lists I'll post them.

Edit: some pics

Toilet Man just owning me.

Dredge being dredge.

Any f'ing cost.

Dredge being bad Hill Giant beats. While Stankweed is Moat.

Sounds like a good time. I'm curious about the Doomsday Oath Deck you played against, since I've been playing just such a deck the past few months. I'm curious how this other one compares to mine. If you have any more info about it, or know who does, be a cool guy and share please.

Awesome pictures, that Zoo deck just looks stunning. It's nice to see some non-blue, Workshop, Dredge decks doing well no matter the tournament size as it shows just how much more diversity this format can have.

I was thinking about a 4 Colour zoo list but it wouldn't have room for Moxen as the basic land types would be too important for the overall build to have basics.

I hope this isn't inappropriate but I live in Atlanta and didn't know about this. When are they, and do people get together to test from time to time?

We did Sunday night @ 8pm. I think we are going for 7pm this week to end a little earlier. This week it was almost all Tech alumni/students ... I didn't post an announcement here or anywhere. There's a private facebook group for it as well. I don't think anyone is testing for this, it's pretty laid back.
