http://www.gatheringmagic.com/jason-alt-08082013-who-to-follow-legacy-edition-part-1/

I post this not because it's got my sweet face along with those of Menendian and DeMars but because it's good to see Vintage getting more, positive attention in mainstream MtG media. I've run into lots of people recently who are interested in Vintage but haven't played or have played very little. I think one of the best things Vintage players, aficionados, experts and amateurs can do is just to be more open about the format. Step outside the bubble a little. Most people think Vintage is an expensive, turn-one format, but we all know it's certainly no more turn-one than Legacy is, and proxies have made it very accessible. Advocating Vintage and getting people to try the format is a huge first step.

(Yes, the URL says Legacy edition. It's Vintage.)

Nice to see Vintage getting some visibility. I created a Twitter account a few months back exclusively to keep up with Vintage / MtG news, and already follow Nat / Stephen. I would also love to pick the brains of other Vintage masterminds like Rich Shay / Paul Mastriano / Brian Demars...

I might be off-base here since I haven't followed the paper Vintage scene is a good while now. But I thought that the recent trend was towards abolishing proxies?

i'd like to know what happened to proxy tournaments too. It's been a while since I last heard any discussion on this, so I guess during this years I've been away you guys probably decided something in that matter. So, what happened? Were proxyes "banned"? Or the opposite, simply accepted as something normal and never discussed again?

Here (around Boston) most events allow proxies, although there is one regular sanctioned event that's been growing in popularity over the last few months.

Yes a majority of the tournaments in the US are still proxy.  Discussion about it just ceased.

The trend isn't so much to abolish proxies as it is to introduce more Sanctioned events in addition to the proxy events. Most of the larger sized events still use proxies, whether it be a Mox tournament or the NYSE: Open, but we've seen some events do really well that Sanctioned and as such don't allow proxies, such as the Scholars events. Both are a lot of fun, and both allow for players to experience the format in different ways.
