If there are regularly 2 BoMs a year (and maybe 3 every 4 months in the future??) then I might just move to Holland - not like I haven't considered it already anyway.

Discount runs for two more weeks --- Wire transfers now accepted!

Dear BoM players,

We have been made aware that some of you have experienced issues registering for BoM8 using our website.

So we have negotiated with the venue a time extension to decide whether we need to rent the additional room or not. Therefore, we are happy to let you know that the discounted price will be available for two more weeks!

We want to insist that, to be able to welcome in the best possible conditions (enough space, tables and chairs, judges, great catering, etc.), we need to have an as accurate view of the attendance as possible. Right now, the room we have accepts 900 players only, and considering the last BoMs attendance, that's very close... We don't want to deny entry, but we need to be careful with the budget.

Therefore, Online Registration for the Legacy Main Event will still be 35€ until Sunday, October 13th.

For our other events, please check our Event Schedule.

Also, to make it more convenient for you to register, we have decided to make it possible for you to pay by wire transfer. If you’d like to do so, please send an email to registration@bazaar-of-moxen.com with your:

    NAME
    First Name
    DCI Number
List of the tournaments you want to pay for

We will send then you our bank information and the total price so that you can make a direct wire transfer in the following 3 (three) days. Please note that this is not any kind of “pre-registration” and you will need to pay within three days to be eligible to the discount.

We hope these decisions will make the registration process much easier and we will be happy to meet you at BoM8!

Online preregistrations are there : http://www.magicbazar.fr/tournois_magic/Bom.php?c=2

I will be coming for only the Vintage event, any idea when it will be done if I were to make the top 8? I need to know because I have to catch the last train back to Belgium from Paris Nord. Not to mention a tram to the train station from the event location. Any idea when this would be by the way on a Sunday night?

AS I see it, to reach Gare du Nord, you should take RER A from Nanterre Préfecture to Châtelet les Halles, and then take either RER B or RER D to Gare du Nord (or even Metro 4 if it's really late)).

The last RER A is at 0h38, but if you want to connect with the RER B/D, the last one is 14 minutes earlier (connecting at 0h45 at Châtelet).

I would recommand not trying to take the last one, because Chatelet isn't an easy station to navigate into, and so isn't Gare du Nord.

Starting to get excited about this now!

I'll be arriving on Thursday and leaving on Monday, staying at the Ibis hotel about 500m from the venue. Will be there with a lot of English friends, as well as a strong Legacy contingent from Berlin. Hope to bump into other TMDers there!

Anyone have any bold metagame predictions?

Yup - back-to-back wins for BUG Fish. Seemed a fairly classic list (no planeswalkers main for example), with the notable exception being a maindeck Edric. Sure the lists will go up later - guess Michael Bonde will post his on MTG Madness?

Overall it was a fun event - just a shame turnout was small for the Vintage. There was definitely a sense of this BOM being after the lord mayor's show (i.e Annecy) and the location didn't exactly help matters.

The BOM coverage was pretty good, though it was clear the players were tired by that point as there were some awkward plays in very critical moments, the Shop player in the last round really had a chance to pull it out with a Chalice for 1, but didn't consider that line of play.

I didn't really like the commentators, but I guess that's what happens when everyone who knows about the format is playing the game as opposed to commentating live.

The one commentator (Gary, I think) was pretty much completely new to Magic as I understand it, but is a professional caster for other games and was probably responsible for the streaming setup.  I think that's a fine cost to pay since he mostly managed the stream, looked up cards on gatherer, and asked questions to prompt R. Levy to talk more.
I thought Levy did a good job.  Obviously his forte may have been other formats as a pro player, but he did pretty well considering they were throwing Commander, Legacy and Vintage at him (and Modern too, though I didn't catch any of that), and not in his first language.

It was pretty nice to have BOM and Eternal Weekend each on a monitor at the same time for most of the weekend!

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.

Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops.  I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.

I think you are completely correct about Gary, he is a League of Legends caster, but a lot of the big players from that game have been dabbling in MtG lately.

Levy was ok but he really seemed to have a bad attitude about Vintage to me, well that is until the last couple of rounds where he became invested in the matches. His outlook early on seemed like he didn't like the format, and thought it was too coin flippy, and that might not actually be his fault, he himself said they watched a bunch of feature matches with combo decks that weren't interactive and ended really quickly, but in the finals there was a ton of back and forth, and they were rooting for certain plays to happen.

That being said, I wonder who was selecting the feature matches, because maybe they didn't get Vintage and just picked the combo mirrors because in their mind the tempo/aggro/control decks weren't the format but rather pet decks, despite how dominant they have been lately in comparison to combo.

I too have been looking everywhere for them.  I think I remember from watching the coverage: BUG deathrite guys took first, with 2 workshop decks (1 with forgemaster) rounding out the top 4.  I think there was an oath deck in the top 8. Am looking forward to the top 8 lists when/where ever they get posted.

Hi,

I was one of the Top8 players, with "Almost Blue", and the one that I beat on the Quarters was playing "Doomsday".

It was a great tournament with a "big" variety of decks (I think that with a "predominance" of Oath). But as always, the best were all the players and people that make possible these kind of events (As one of the members of the LCV organization I know how difficult it is).

Thanks to all,

Pau Cantero

In fact the 2 workshop decks in the Top4 were playing kuldotha. (3kuldotha shop in top8)
AS you could have seen it in the top 8 streaming, the first who activates its kuldotha wins the game.
Only found mine in the first game though Very Happy

Shameful how marginalized Vintage is, even among eternal enthusiasts, that they can't even be concerned to post the decklists.

I'm with Smmenen on this one, the Bazaar of Moxen, which derives its name from the Vintage format, seems to have done everything in its power this year to marginalize Vintage as a format.

The coverage wasn't great, the numbers for Vintage were simply mixed in with various other statistics, and we still have no valid top 8 lists for Vintage despite them being published for Legacy almost instantly. For a premier level Vintage tournament, this has been rather lackluster. Did the management for the organization of BoM change and they just decided to try their best to drop Vintage, and then were upset when people voted to keep it around as opposed to simply replacing it earlier this year so they tried to down play it to the point that people stopped caring? If you want to drop Vintage, then do so, but don't call yourself Bazaar of Moxen, just go with Force of Dual Lands or something :/.

Here's what I had to post on another forum:

Quote
Legacy Champs top 8:
2x White Weenie (D&T)
3x Delver (RUG and UR)
1x MUD
1x Tendrils
1x UW Miracles

Legacy BOM:
1x Elves
2x White Weenie (D&T)
3x Tendrils
1x America Delver
1x Maverick

Legacy Deck types: 7-9 depending on how much you differentiate URW, RUG, and UR Delver.

Vintage Cahmps Top 8:
1x Mono U Merfolk
2x RUG Devler
1x 4 Colour Control
1x Oath of Druids
1x Dredge
1x Tendrils
1x UW Resto-Angel Control

BoM top 8 Vintage:
1x BUG Edrich Fish
2x Forgemaster Workshop
1x Almost Blue (Talrand Gush Combo)
4x ????? (I think one of them was another Forgemaster deck? They lists haven't been posted)

Total Vintage Decks: 10... Without knowing what 4 of the top 8 decks looked like.

I know for a fact (I was there Smile, that every single vintage judge was really unsatisfied with how it was ran.

The problem was that they had EVERYTHING planned on sunday!
BoM 9 3-bye legacy-trial, Modern event, Commander event and Legacy day 2!

There was 152 players in vintage and the top 8 was:

1x BUG Fish
3x Forgemaster MUD
1x Sneak and Show (URb Show and tell/Sneak attack)
1x Doomsday
1x Almost Broken
I don't remember the 8th person, sorry Sad I think it was a Jace-deck, but I might be wrong.

... and we still have no valid top 8 lists for Vintage ...

I agree with everything said. We don't even have a deck breakdown of the Vintage top 8, not event to talk abaout detailled lists. Even in the, as far as I know, most common french Vintage forum they are linking on this thread to deliver some information on the top 8 lists:

http://solomoxen.com/forum/index.php?topic=14686.msg143520#new

They probably have their reasons, but at least we can say that this can be done better (as it happended with the superb coverage of the Eternal Weekend Vintage event).
