My god, is this VFCIV8 already? It's like we have our own scene again!
8 Vintage tourneys in one year! (plus a few Eudo's)
When it comes to promoting these events, I'm pretty sure that we are always really happy to have whoever we have show up. If it's a 10 man tourney, we know it will be an awesome meta cuz the core 10 or so of us are really dedicated to the game/format. Be we all long for like the 32 man tourneys of yesteryear.
I post pics, do tourney reports and so forth for love of the game, and giving people their vintage fix even if they can't make it to the tourneys. I've had people I don't know tell me that they really appreciate said pics/reports because they get to live vicariously through our scene.
Letting people know that these tourneys are happening is the only way to get people to show up. The only way to do that is to have some way of letting people know. I post a link to this thread on our local NorCal Vintage Scene (or BC does etc), Smennen does it as well on his Twiter feed (and goes extra for his Eudo events). But copy/pasting a link to this thread on Facebook is a way to let people know that these events are happening, and some of your friends would LOVE to throw down $20 to play some Vintage, especially if they are able to be handed a deck to pilot (or lent crucial cards to make their own decks). They just need to KNOW about it. I have like 150 friends on Facebook, only a fraction of which are people I only know through Vintage/FNM/Magic in general. (I don't FB friend just anyone. I think I have exactly ONE facebook friend that I don't actually know in real life (looking at you Reanimater420). But I post a link on my FB page anyways, because I don't always remember who I know that knows of Vintage is still amongst my friends. But some of them (the Magic People I know) don't read TMD ever, unless it's to check out a major tourney (World Champs, BOM, etc), or to check out pics of this tourney.
Basically, if yer going to this tourney, or not going to this tourney, but likely have FB friends who might be interested (or your friends have friends that might be interested, etc), if you love this format, just copy paste the link and post on FB. You might have friends that play magic, but don't seem to be Vintage Players, but still have their Jace The Mind Sculptors and Dark Confidants, etc and are realizing that they are only Legacy/Vintage cards now, and might long for a return to playing with them. They might finally warm up to proxies when they see that 15 proxies mean you can participate, etc.
In short, if a Vintage event happend within 90 miles of my hometown happend, and I couldn't make it only because I didn't know about it would really bum me out. There are people out there who's day might be brightened by the prospect of tossing Dark Rituals on the Stack or tapping and untapping Elves or even the idea of contemplating the slightest thought of having the merest idea of putting Mox Ruby, Mox Pearl, Black Lotus and Sol Ring into a Boros Deck Wins deck and roflstomping our meta.
Also, I communicate with many of our local Vintage folk by either our FB group, TMD, FB friend, but rarely by two or more of these methods. You may already be posting links on your FB page or whatnot and I might not know (and think no one's trying to do their part). You do what you will, I'm just trying to put the idea in your head to post a link on FB and onto whatever FB group you belong to that might have aqcuantences that might want to sling carboard crack at Vintage Champions and/or Vintage Champs Finalists and me (I beat David Ochao in our first 6 matches. That is my only claim to fame. 50/50 vs LSV when he could sling Vintage cards.)

To be fair, it has been a little over a year; our first tournament was in May, 2012. Over the last year+ we have done our best to foster Vintage in Northern California. We haven't exactly GROWN the scene very much, but I think we've successfully kept it alive. Lotushead provides the best tournament write-ups in Vintage, and our player base is riddled with top-tier players. I promise to try to keep these tournaments going as long as I can. So far it has been worth the effort.

That picture is perfect! Nice find. Props to helping keep Vintage alive.
I will be there barring any unforeseen disasters between now and then. I haven't played shops in a while, so maybe I'm due for some wading in the MUD. We'll see.

@Campee: The drive to Vacaville would increase your street cred quite a bit. As I am now a "baller" full time working MoJoMaKer, I can hook you up with a fat $10 Bill for showing up with a posse (some of which showed up without you being there previously...). I am drowning with cash, but as I am so used to being barely above the "almost homeless" state, I can justify bribing you with x2 Toll fees to come out here and sling cardboard at each other. I will even give you $20 if you somehow coerce Dnine (DMessiano) or Stan Gin or other bay area folks to come out and play, even if I have to hand them Shops, Rainbow Oathanother shop deck, Elves! Merfolk or (ugh...Dredge) to play. I love having a full time job, just don't know what to do with money.

UPDATE: The prize pool has been updated. We will be giving away a FtV Jace and a WWK Jace to 1st and 2nd (or cash equivalent). Other top finishers will still receive cash prizes.

I'm rich now, so I can probably do something to up the ante. But I'm too busy grading papers. Maybe I will contribute to NEXT Vintage in Vacaville (say, when Frankie Mach gets back). Maybe I just up the ante in door prizes.

I'm going to try to get down for this one from R-ville but am currently maybe status as well. I'll be rocking a budget build should I get to sling the cardboard, but I intend to go down swinging should that be thy fate.

Is anyone driving from the east bay? I don't want to drive by myself; I might just go to the Eudo legacy event in Berkeley if I can't.

20 People showed up for the tourney, and it was a blast. Unfortunately, I won't have time to do tourney report for a few days. :/

Sorry bro - I could have taken the decklists and posted them for you -- I was just too upset after losing my Top 8 match.
Thanks for the heaving lifting. I'll post the Eudo decklists next time!
