The meta was very light on Workshops in general and people were well-prepared for it. I did not play a single Workshop that day, Alexey however told me he played 4 (!!!) and he hates Workshops so much he maindecked a Mountain as you can see.

Analysis: Wow. Aside from the main event having Intuition/AK/Snap decks out in full force, it looks like it was also a popular (and strong) choice in their invitational. Intuition/AK is somewhat harder to disrupt for decks that rely on Grafdigger's Cage as their main GY hate, and obviously it's very powerful once it gets rolling. Lots of techy/pet cards littered throughout these lists, you can tell a lot of care and thought was probably put into this event. Izzet Charm and Wear/Tear showing up in the winning Grixis list is interesting - though I guess you can't call it Grixis since it splashes white for STP and Disenchant. The 2nd place Drain Tendrils list has Candelabra of Tawnos and Transmute Artifact, the shops list has 4 Expedition Map and toolbox lands to go with 4 MD Dismember, there are some quirky counterspell packages (1-2 of Fluster/Misstep/Pierce/Misdirection in many lists), a Remora deck, a nifty DRS Keeper, and tons of Gush (not all Pyromancer).

Also, I really dig the Oath list with Swan Song. I wonder how good it was. And I like all the Intuition/AK in some of these lists. Kickin' it old-school.

Yeah you guys are right, it's probably Rack and Ruin and definitely Serum Powders (I played Federico in the semifinals AND played Dredge myself for 2 years, so shame on me for not noticing that -.-).

The Swan Song Oath list looks kinda cool, but the general problem with Oath nowadays is the existence of Abrupt Decay. I loved to play Demon Oath on our local tournaments until Amadeus brewed together his BUG Fish list which simply destroys Oath. In addition to that he managed to win this years Bazaar of Moxen with it (so you can easily find his list online), and it made Top8 in Ovino, so as much as it hurts to admit it, Amadeus really brewed tegether a very strong deck that has edge against lots of stuff.

I was also surprised about the amount of Intu-AK decks on the upper tables. In retrospective, it might have been a good idea to play a Surgical Extraction instead of the Flusterstorm in my sideboard, but my gut feeling told me to stick with Flusterstorm. Surgical Extraction seems cute when you are able to hit Dark Rituals, Gushs or AKs for example, but these backbone-cards have become quite rare, so Flusterstorm would be the less situational card against these MUs.

However, I still think the Italian metagame is a bit awkward. I have seen so many people losing matches they shouldn't just because they were running Inkwell or Myr Battlesphere as their Tinker targets.

The Intu AK decks can be very explosive at times, but I still think there is no deck that generates more cardadvantage than Grixis Control. Furthermore this once more confirms what Brian DeMars said in one of his articles last year: "If your deck plays Dark Confidant, it was probably sick."
