So for my two cents.  This is amazing.  If you are not doing it, you should be.  I've been meeting really good players in the finals of the dailies.  The prices are going crazy right now yes.  But if you want to be able to actually play vintage at your leisure with a group larger than you can count on two hands, its worth it.  Being able to hop online and play vintage and not have to stress about long car rides, trips and planning.  I think there is room for some big things.  We could organize tournaments.  I'm sure the possibilities have been mentioned.  I'm here to basically express my excitement for this whole operation as well as support.  Buy in!

Completely powered since the weekend. Could have gotten away a lot cheaper if I bought in the first 2-3 days, but I speculated on prices dropping more than they actually did. Over the whole week, the prices were really high, with a predicted drop at the weekend, that let me get away with 705 Tix for 8 Pieces (pulled Sapphire from one of my drafts). I personally expect the prices to rise over the week and do another (smaller) drop the next weekend.

There are so many people still waiting to buy a Black Lotus for 225 and I feel like the draft rate has gone down significantly... might be a good idea to buy the Lotus for under 240 if you get the opportunity. Once the drafts are not available any more, the prices will possibly go up by 20-50%.

Wild speculation for the win!

I'm powered up now as well.  I realize that prices might drop and I had the cards in my cart on MTGO traders when they were 140 or lotus and 60-70 for moxes and I hesitated.  I ended up paying a bit more but I'm not bummed really.  I'm really excited to play vintage from home for small chunks of time here and there.

@JACO The limited events stop July 3rd. They said they are unsure if they are going to keep the limited format in the draft room (constructed is safe and will be here forever). They will be for sale until September in the store but without drafts and sealed people are going to open less packs. People might gamble for power but that would be the only way potentially.

This appears to be incorrect.  The release events stop on the July 2nd downtime, but the events will continue.  Only difference is that you won't receive the Dack Fayden avatar for the limited events.

I have not seen an actual mention of them ceasing limited events while the set is in print.  To do so would be quite odd and not in keeping with their previous set releases.

This is correct, it is simply that release events end and non-release events begin.  The non-release events are actually cheaper.  Sealed is 35 tix vs the 45 it is now. You wont be able to get the avatars by participating, but if you really want them you can get them for under a tix right now on the secondary market.

Where did you get this information that the non-release events are cheaper? Is the price payout reduced then as well? As I'm new to MTGO I didn't know about it... and I somehow feel ripped off when I just played so many events (I really liked the limited) just to find out I would have actually come a lot cheaper when it is not a prerelease/release. Isn't that the exact opposite behavior when compared to real world magic? Releases tended to be cheaper than regular limited in my area...

Release events:

Non-release events:
http://archive.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/other/06092014/vma/constructed#vmasealeddaily

The prizes are a bit reduced for the sealed, but the non-release sealed still provides a much better value.

Hmmm that would imply that the on demand events stop next week.

Disconcerting.

Asking Worth and co. now for clarification.

seems like a typo of some kind. 35 tix entry fee cannot be correct, considering the booster price of 7 a pack.
i assume it will be 45

It seems that Moxen are stabilising in price and dropping slowly as botchains finally have them even stocked. Sapphire is 84tix and the rest are around 65tix. Affordable in my opinion Smile

Good, I've been waiting to buy in.  Don't know how much longer I should wait.  Will probably bite the bullet today.

I have 3/9 of P9 already acquired and I will buy 1 or 2 moxen next week when I have money in paypal. I believe now is a good time to buy power in mtgo. It might get 5-10tix cheaper, but then again it might get 10tix more expensive quite soon...

I had 1 Wasteland few years ago and when tempest block was drafted last winter I bought two more. When VMA was fully spoiled and Wasteland wasn't in I bought the last one, just before it raised 15-20tix in price. But yeah anyone who doesn't have Wastelands should focus on power and duals at the moment. I believe wotc has intentions to get more Wastelands and ONS fetches into the system in the near future (within a year).

Guess it'll be Oath, Blue and Dredge for me until that happens.

Still need to get Confidants as well.  Costs add up quick.

I honestly feel that this whole vintage thing online is too close to the "reprint" they promised not to make with the reserved list. At the time the list was put out, the digital age was not as prevalent, and hence not included in the policy. However, one would assume that in good faith wizards would adapt the policy as technology and paradigms shift.

Just my two cents

Given that multiple figures from Wizards have stated that they believe the creation of the reserved list to be a mistake in the first place, it's not at all surprising that they would ignore it wherever they could.

I also think most investors/collectors are going to be alright with this as a paper NM revised Black Lotus buylists for $2,000 or so.

Apart from all those problems with wrong annoucements, price spikes and a moderate buy-in of online Vintage, I have to state again: It is just huge that you can play whenever you want and have some quality opponents. I could literally try out three decks over the weekend with about 7-8 games each against competitive decks. And all of that without sleeving, shuffling, managing overlapping cards from all three decks, etc.

And regarding the price, you can use the mtg goldfish page to evaluate a decklist or a set of cards in MODO and paper, and you can sure have some fun comparing the prices. I ordered cards this week online that would have cost me $30k in paper... and they work just fine when playing on the online client. And by the way: I cannot see a single price of a paper card dropping due to those "online reprints". They have their value in large part because of nostalgia, live tournaments and age. None of that changes.

This seems like an aweful lot of money too me. How many people will join these events at this cost?

It could be a small tournament if people don't want to fork out that kind of money to participate.

I for one will definately take a few stabs at it, but can't forsee myself endlessly trying to qualify for a constructed tournment at 30 tix a pop.

Thoughts?

The cost is going to limit how many of these I attempt. I just don't see why it needs to be as high as it is.

As for the single elimination part? That's fucking scary for Vintage. Think about how many 'Oops, I won' games you've played in Vintage.

Single elimination in Vintage is a lottery, not a tournament.

Single Elimination is a terrible way to proceed for a Vintage tournament. I hope they can be convinced to change their minds and make it swiss into top eight. It's not like they have a good track record for sticking what they say, at any rate.

Agreed, though they have responded positively to feedback. What's the best way for us to try and change their minds?

The payout isn't bad and I think that will help. A winning record at 3-2 gets you your money back (5 packs x 6-7 tix each) whereas 4-1+ gets you a qualification and decent payout + 70 to 105 in tix. It's no Nick Coss party, NYSE, or Calvin Invitational but not horrible in terms of time invested. Plus the prizes for the Championship are pretty insane.

I really love that the timing of the Championship itself is possibly the best we (European players) could get. Is that their usual timing for Championships or did the Emails help a bit on this as well? Saturday morning Pacific means Saturday evening - and staying up through the night is quite possible on the weekend. I think this is the optimal solution to give all of us a good shot at competing!!

Will surely try to qualify for this and slay a lot of Druids and Pyromancers along the way (be warned!) ^^

I have only played Modern briefly on Magic Online, so I am not well acquainted with the ins and outs of what happens there. I was wondering what the prospects for player run Vintage events are?
