Slightly off topic, but has to do with reprints. Misdirection and exploration are being reprinted in Conspiracy with new art! This shows wotc is now willing to reprint some medium-priced nom-reserved cards in large amounts.
Just to clarify, Conspiracy is not being released on MTGO. It is a paper only set. While there is a chance Exploration and Misdirection are also in Vintage Masters, this has not been confirmed or even hinted at by WotC yet. We'll see in the next few days, hopefully, as the full spoiler is due out very soon.

Wow, this looks like a really fun limited format, a lot like Tempest block limited in its grindiness and the suckiness of the creatures. I do have one problem, however. The set has Volrath's shapeshifter, Flowstone hellion, and survival of the fittest, but not Phyrexian Dreadnought Sad. It is possible to win FEB style, but it looks like you need a berserk to do that(Or psychatog in the yard).

On another good note, they are reprinting fluster storm in the set, which is a semi-expensive staple.

The big names missing that see the most play right now are:
-Wasteland
-Metalworker
-Show and Tell
-Onslaught Fetches

If you are buying in and need these you may want to pick these up before the VM release since they will likely go up considerably.

a few other notables missing:
-Sneak Attack
-Gaea's Cradle(though it is the next mocs promo)
-Daze
-Misdirection
-Rishadan Port
-Tangle Wire (though the ftv one is very cheap online)
-Imperial Seal
-Gorilla Shaman
-Misdirection
-City of Traitors
-True-Name Nemesis
-Toxic Deluge
-Intuition
-Unmask
-Undiscovered paradise
-lotus petal

and a few more. For a comprehensive list by price, see this thread:
http://forums.classicquarter.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2468#post2468

I suspect we see heavy flashback drafting of tempest block and masques block very soon since that is where most of the gaps come from.

I played an event last night (I'm not new to draft format, but new to MTGO interface)

I lost first game, won 2nd, and was pretty confident I could beat him 3rd game, but I had 14 seconds on the clock for 3rd game. (no 5 extra turns rules. you time out, you lose).

For newbies to MTGO, get your practice in so you can play in a timely manner.

Also the transition from v3 to the new beta client will happen during summer. Hopefully streamers adapt it beforehand so that i can watch someone else learn the new client rather than doing it myself. At the moment the beta client is nearly unplayable and I only wonder if it actually works when they release it. I have heard that the closed beta is better which gives us hope.

Wasteland is on the rise. Now it's almost too late to get those. Very few bots have them available.

How the fuck do you make a set focused on putting Vintage cards into circulation and not put Wasteland in it?  It's only one of the most important non-restricted cards in the format....

I have no clue. Guess they want $100+ land somewhere. Even if they do tempest flashbacks it won't put enough into circulation as much as vm would have

This set seems to be VERY well developed;  my guess is they plan to do something else entirely with Wasteland.

I'm mostly surprised about coming up with new art for Misdirection and then not having in VM (since Conspiracy isn't coming out online). Not that it matters too much, but I do wonder why they decided to do it.

I'd say it would make sense to keep Wasteland out of VMA if they plan on it hitting in August in FTV: Annihilation.

They already had so many lands on rare and mythic slots that they just couldn't fit it in. Keep in mind that the draft format has to be at least somewhat ok so that the cards get into the system. Getting a certain card like Wasteland into mtgo isn't hard for wotc and they can do it when they want to. Maybe a MOCS promo or print it in some other product (like FTV or Commander).

i have no clue and think it was a HUGE mistake not to include it, given the perfect opportunity they had with VM.

they might have some reason, like keeping the TE flashback drafts firing, milking grinders with some upcoming MOCS Prms or whatever.

personally, i hate the decision and the fact that a Vintage staple UNC maintains a huge price tag/ will rise even more.

When I finally get my tax return, I'd like to try to get in to some Vintage online.  Do you guys think I should start with the beta client, so I am used to the new interface when it does become the standard?   Seems silly to learn something for it to change in a couple months.

@Pomaxx

The thing is that wotc can't just simply put everything to the set. This time it was Wasteland, Metalworker, Misdirection and some other cards that didn't make it. They were restricted on how many cards they are able to print in the set to make it good draft format. In the end if it was something like Ancient Tomb or Flusterstorm that didn't make the cut, they would rise in price. Some cards will be very expensive no matter what cards they included in the set. If you aren't willing to invest some money to mtgo you will not be able to play Vintage online. That is the truth.

But I believe wotc intends to make it more available for players. I expect to see important vintage and legacy cards reprinted in mtgo.

I would still start with the old client since it's available when VMA launches and is more stable. In the end anyone who has the will is capable to learn the tricks of the UI/client.

So it's only a couple weeks now until this drops.  What are we doing to prepare?  I've started buying up Vintage cards that won't be in Vintage Masters, and feel like I've gotten to a pretty good point.  I can only assume Wasteland, Misdirection, and the ONS fetches are going to be seeing reprints in fairly short order, so I haven't been too concerned about getting them.

Well misdirection is actually gettting reprinted in Conspiracy, so I don't see it getting reprinted anytime soon online.  Strange that it gets put in one set and not the other.

I've bought most of the Vintage staples and avoided anything that I might open.

I too have been avoiding Wasteland and the fetches which will hopefully see a wide reprint soon.  Gaea's Cradle is an upcoming promo so hopefully that will bring that one down as well.  Port, Tangle Wire, Show and Tell and Unmask are annoying, but I'll get to them when I have to.

I've also started getting a streaming setup in place and hope to be able to do a few fun things with that.  Maybe even a 24 hour vintage masters marathon at some point, who knows.

My hope is that they keep this set on the shelves for quite some time, maybe even indefinitely, though that is extremely doubtful.  They do still have all of the old Planechase and Commander products in the store, so there is a small precedent for it.

I believe it was stated that it will be on the shelf until "Khans of Tarkir" is released, so around the 1st of October.

Notably absent from the set:

Wasteland - Yeah yeah
Gaea's Cradle - Mocs Promo
City of Traitors - Barely used in Vintage, even then as a one-of
Rishidan Port - Not used in Vintage
Unmask - Oh no some Dredge builds will have a card that costs more than $10!!!
Misdirection - Used as a one-of
Tangle Wire - There exists a $7 version
Virtue's Ruin - Not remotely used in Vintage
Show and Tell (But for some reason Eureka is a mythic) - Rarely used in certain Oath builds
Onslaught Fetch Lands - Used a lot - will get reprinted into Standard soon anyway

Commented on all those cards.

So, if you are a Legacy player, you probably should have been playing for the last three years anyway.  All those cards were much, much cheaper then with the exception of the Masques block cards, which are their own special set of problems.

If you are a Vintage player, most of those cards don't matter.  To boot, you will get little sympathy from
a) anyone who's been online collecting these cards for the last ten years, and has had to put up with playing classic
b) (and more importantly) The people in charge at WotC who have been selling these cards for the last ten years online.  The online "petitions" to put wasteland have probably pulled one or two muscles just from laughing so hard at it.

Those $7 Tangle Wires are finite. They're creeping up as people realize that they can get those over the $24 version.

That's a good point.  I suppose I should have realized that would happen when it happened to Tezzeret the Seeker.

At any rate, I'm not going to begrudge WoTC because they didn't just pick the top 297 Vintage/Legacy cards and try and make a set with that an 18 more Conspiracy cards.
