We will be running one event each month at Top Deck Games, and participating in these events will earn you points towards 1 and 2 round byes at the 2014 Winter Open (Top 4 overall points earners get 2 byes, and 5th-8th get 1 bye).  Additionally, the eight players who have earned the most points over the course of 2014 will be invited to compete in a single-elimination 8-man event at the Winter Open where the winner takes home $500 in Top Deck Games store credit.  How do you earn points?  Simple, you win matches.  Let's say you play in an event where you go 4-2 in the Swiss rounds, win in the Top 8, and lose in the Top 4.  You would earn 12 points for your Swiss performance (3 points per win, 1 point per draw, and 0 points per loss) and an additional 3 points for winning in the Top 8, for a total of 15 points!  Also, any events that Top Deck Games runs that is a "larger" event (the Summer Open, for example) will be a 2x multiplier!  Here's to more Vintage; I'm certainly looking forward to seeing everyone in 2014!

The Second Event!

   Date: Saturday, February 15th 2014
   Location: Top Deck Games!
Address: 55 Haddon Ave, Haddon Township, NJ 08108

   Registration: 11:00 AM
   Play Begins: 12:00 PM
   Format: Vintage
   Entry Fee: $25
   K-Value: 10-proxy unsanctioned
REL: Competitive, decklists required and penalized for errors

We all know that many Magic players have some time management issues.  To reward a random player who shows up early, at every Vintage event I run, if you register before 11:30, you will be entered into a drawing for a free booster pack!  Who doesn't like free stuff?!  Also, as always, we do allow late entries, but with a Round 1 loss.

   Prizes!
   1st: $400 Store Credit
   2nd: $200 Store Credit
   3rd: $100 Store Credit
   4th: $100 Store Credit
   5th-8th: $50 Store Credit

Good turnout today as 42 players battled it out.  I would have liked to have done better today after starting the day off with two wins over Dredge, but it was not to be.

I started 2-0 as well...going into round 5 I was 3-1, and I needed to win to then draw into the t8, instead I preceeded to lose and lose lol. It was cool to see 2 junk decks sporting some number of the new spirit of the labyrinth in the t8. And good to see some friendly people as well!

A lot. Made Jace weak/dead, nullified cantrips like Preordain, enabled Mikokoro shenanigans. It's also a 3/1 so the clock is fast and it trades favorably up the curve if needed.

In case lists don't go up again, here is what I jammed:

The Top 8 was surprisingly light on what one might term "unfair" decks.  More info soon on that.
