I really hate to be That Guy, but if the seating in that church basement is as cramped as it was last year I will seriously have to  {1} {U} Think Twice about playing.

Sorry, I just got back from the hellhole that was GP: Richmond and this kind of stuff is fresh on my mind. To any and all TOs that read this: 4 matches to an 8-foot table is unacceptable. 3 matches to an 8-foot table and 2 matches to a 6-foot table are the maximum. If you cannot seat your expected crowd using those guidelines you need to rent more space. It really is that simple.

Space should be a concern for all events, but you're actually the only person to bring up this sentiment to me about last year's event.

Last year we were held back from setting up as early as I'd have liked. This led to a necessary haste with things that won't be an issue this year, as we will have  the venue for setup at 8:30, not 10:15. The venue has the space we need, with the proper amount of time to set up, things will be good.

The only thing I didn't like was that there wasn't good space to congregate after matches.  I understand this really nitpicking, but it's still a thing.

I also disliked that I only had Saturday and Sunday in town.  This will be rectified by flying in on Thursday and home on Monday night.   I plan to spend some time in New York City again, and see the city.

Well, I've got sweet video equipment. However, I expect I will be playing and will not want to run a camera all day. I would enthusiastically lend it to someone to use if they want. Anyone have a friend who'd be willing to spend the day doing this? Alternatively, if I scrub out I may stick around to tape the later rounds.

In any case, will you be willing to factor coverage into your considerations, Nick? I know you basically already said you will, but just want to confirm -- it's probably a bit more work than you seem to have indicated, as you'd need to ensure there was extra space for the feature match area and hopefully guarantee some speedy internet connection so we could stream. It would also be ideal if we could spend some time camera testing the setup, to make sure card glare was kept low and image sharpness kept high. If you're down for this, I'd like to ask if anyone would be willing to man the camera all day -- it takes work but can be fun if you're into that kinda thing.

If you plan to play, it's okay... because you'll be able to run the camera after round two.

I think I'll try to head out for this, mostly as an excuse to visit New York again. I also plan on attending a Yankees game (and booing them relentlessly, of course).

Nick, if no one else is interested, I am probably willing to run video coverage and give some commentary a shot.  I'll update here when I know for sure what travel plans look like, and I have some streaming stuff but nothing crazy so if other people (especially people closer) have nice cameras and/or audio equipment that would be awesome.

It would be good to have you at the event, Jimmy.

It looks like video coverage will be a thing.  You can all thank Nick Coss in person.  Depending on the internet connection, it will either be live-streamed or filmed and then uploaded.

Greg does phenomenal work.

We're discussing playmats with this image, but we're not sure what the end result of that is going to be just yet.

Greg will be doing hand drawn playmats (as opposed to these, which would be printed) and I can't recommend them highly enough.  I've seen them in person and they're phenomenal.  Quite a few locals have had him produce mats for them and everything I've seen has been excellent.  I can't recommend him highly enough.

I am very happy to announce that we have just confirmed that Richard Kane Ferguson will be at the N.Y.S.E. Open!  I will update the main announcement to reflect this in the near future, but wanted to share this information as soon as I could.

That's awesome! Due to some unfortunate car trouble the night before, Koresko and I missed his appearance at Mark's JOU prerelease. It will take way more than car trouble to stop us from making the Open, obviously.

This year's altered Karns are insane:

The main post will be updated with everything at some point this weekend (probably on Sunday).

When's the last day to pre-reg?

The main body of the announcement has been updated.  I have now included the basic information about RKF, the completed version of the altered Karn to be given to the victor, as well as a few minor details.

I have also been collecting giveaways for the better part of the last year; there is some very, very cool stuff that will be given out at the event.

Figured I'd chime in and state that I'm definitely playing!

When's the last day to pre-reg?

The last day for pre-registration will be Sunday, 6/15.

It will be great to have you there, Mike.

This event is just about five weeks out.  I can't tell you all how psyched I am.  I have received a lot of positive feedback and I think we're going to have a great event with great attendance.

Can we get an update on the pre reg list?

I'll follow up with Nick about this today.  I don't have access to it, and was just checking sporadically, as I don't expect the crush of pre-registrations to hit until 6/15.

Edit: Updated.

Nick (or anybody else that can confirm): if I fly into LaGuardia with a flight that would arrive at 9am on Saturday morning, would I be able to take a cab or something to get to the tournament site in time to get registered and play? Like is that enough time logistically? I have a wedding I have to go to the Friday night before which complicates everything, and I can't find any red-eye flights from CHI to NYC. Please let me know ASAP so I can try to book a ticket. There's a flight I've found from CHI to NYC (LaGuardia) that would get in at 9am ET that morning, so just need confirmation that it's within striking distance.

Jason, you'd be fine.  You don't want to take a cab that far though, it would run you a few hundred dollars at that point.

I have to be at the venue by nine, but I can try to arrange for someone to pick you up at the airport.  You should be out by 9:30, which would get you to the event around 10:30.
