Congratulations to everyone at this event, especially Detwiler and the top 8. 92 players is a stellar turnout. Several interesting and quality strategies were unveiled and retooled for this event. It was great to see so many friends doing well. Congrats to Rob Edwards, Shawn Griffiths, and Bill Sees for taking down the team portion of the event. Of course, Keith Seals now has the whole world, in his hands, he's got the whole world in his hands...Vasu did great getting into top 4 as well. Glad his deck choice panned out. Joel Lim reminded us why he is one of the best as well, fighting his way into top 8. I didn't perform the best but had a blast. Loved the event.

Can't believe I hemmed and hawed about preregistering. This event was worth every penny. And this is coming from someone who went 3-4. (Brimaz, King of Oreskos!)

Thank you for a great event and it was fantastic seeing everyone!

Congratulations to Keith, Rob, Joel, Vasu and the rest of the prize-winners.  It's great to see so many faces from the Pennsylvania scene populating the top ranks.   I look forward to NYSEIII; thanks to Nick for a superb event!

How many Dack Fayden were in the top 8?  After seeing the top 8 archetypes, it looks like 2 or less.  And forge master won.  Is it too early to call Dack Fayden overrated?

Nah, he's real good. There were zero copies in the top 8 but I played James Kohler on Grixis Welder in round 6 with it. It was a must-answer threat for him, for sure. Couple cards difference here or there and he'd have taken it down and not me.

That was a great match. I also ended up winning the 20 person event today on the same list from Nicks event with two changes in the board. Dack was amazing all day, my opponent resolved vault key, I managed to Dack it away and win. His card filtering is amazing and people really underestimate how good his -2 is vs. non-shop decks as well. He is legit, I loved him even without Welder.

Just had to say, yesterday was a great time. Thanks to Nick and staff, judge Brian, the artists, the videographer(s), and the skillful duelists who inspire. Special thanks to my homie boggyb. Congrats to all players, not only the prize winners, but also those who showed up and did their best. Looking forward to the 3rd one, let's continue the tradition!

What an unbelievable weekend.  Wow.

We kicked the weekend off with 20 guys playing Friday Night Vintage at Mark's Comics.  I was busy running around like a madman, trying to take care of all the last minute details for the event on Saturday, so I didn't attend, but I was glad to see the turnout that we got for that.

Prior to Saturday, the biggest event that I have ever run was 90 guys battling Vintage back in January 2011.  More than three and a half years later, I didn't expect to see 92 guys battling it out for all the power, Shops and Bazaars.  But there we were.  Being a T/O can be a thankless job at times, but it is a necessary one.  There are a lot of people to thank (and I will do my best to thank everyone in the official report, which should go up tomorrow), but I want to say a preliminary thank you to everyone who showed up, or otherwise supported the tournament yesterday.  You guys are the fuel that keep me running.  Your support means quite a lot to me.  Thank you.

I stopped by at Comic Book Depot today to kick off the Mox event and I was glad to see another 20 guys battling.  Depot is a great store and I love it as the venue for the second day of the weekend's events.

As always, I'd like feedback on the tournament.  There is always room for improvement, and while I feel like this weekend was a smashing success by just about any standards, I hope to continue to exceed expectations, improve where possible and do what I can to help grow the format we love and the community.

Yeah for Magic online!

Seriously: playing MTG, choosing Vintage or trying to be half decent at the game is really secundary. Reading the coverage, looking at pics, etc... conforte me in my decision not to join MODO. For the same reasons, I never had any interest whatsoever in playing Chess or Poker online.

One day, I will travel the seas to meet & sling some Power against all you people. Stuff like that makes me dream so keep up the great work Nick!

I had a great time at this despite a disappointing finish. For those of you who were not able to make it out, you missed a wonderful time and should do everything within your power to make it next year. Congrats to all who did well and for those who did not, there is always next year!

My fault for asking here but there were enough posts about your deck that I Split them off into a separate thread.  Don't wanna derail the rest of the post game Smile.  Discussion of your list is now at  http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=46488.msg643523;boardseen#new

I could not be more happy to see two close friends in the finals!  Congratulations to Keith, Rob, and the rest of the top 8 -- you earned it!  Thanks to Nick Detwiler and Nick Coss for throwing a spectacular event, as usual.  I was sad that Austin Pollack wasn't helming the kitchen this year, but the pizza runs were clutch -- and the cookies were DELICIOUS.  Best dollars I spent all day.

Thanks to all my opponents for smashing my face in.  I want to give special props to the Merfolk player I battled in round 6 (I think?).  He had all the answers for me game 1, and I might have come off a little salty.

Great time, great people, and great format!  I can't wait for next year!

P.S.  I had to carry the trophy.  So heavy.  Lol.

Just as an FYI for those wondering about decklists, we have Top 16 decklists typed up and Prospero will get the Top 16 decklists and his tournament report up in the next 24 hours (or potentially some time today; don't want to put any words in his mouth). Once those go up we'll then post all 92 decklists up on Eternal Central in another post, as well as a metagame breakdown and whatever else we can find.
EDIT: We now have the rest of the photos from the event up on the Live Coverage page here:
http://www.eternalcentral.com/nyse2coverage/

Lots of good pics. Enjoy!

Calvin's invitational last month. NYSE this month. Gencon in August. Vintage Champs in October.

Since my career in Vintage started in 2008, I can say with certainty this is shaping up to be the best year of Vintage and it is thanks entirely to the TOs that put on the show.

Thank you again Nick, had an absolute blast this past weekend, look forward to seeing you at the next one.

This looked like it was a tremendous event. Hopefully, I'll be able to go to next year's.

Congratulations to fellow Ramrodder Mr. Seals for winning the Main Event, and Mr. J.P. Kohler for taking down the Sunday event.

I also want to thank Jaco and Eternal Central for their awesome round by round coverage, which was just perfect for me to keep tabs on those I knew that were playing on Saturday while I was stuck at work.

And of course, a big congratulations to Mr. Detwiler for getting an awesome turnout!

This is awesome Jaco.  Do you have more pics?  I saw you take some that I don't see up.

I also wanted to give a shout out to JarolofFortune, the other California attendee who made top 16!  I was especially impressed that he beat Paul, even though it hurt us in the team competition.

It's pretty awesome that both Cali players traveled thousands of miles and both made top 16, showing how strong our Eudo/Vacaville Vintage scene is against East Coast competition.

I'd like to thank Paul and Jimmy for being awesome teammates in the team competition.  Although we won the team competition last year AND in a recent Waterbury, we were neck and neck until the end (although I'm not sure what the final score was).

I'd also like to thank the Nick's for hosting this event, which was so much fun.  Your hard work is truly appreciated.

As always, I'd like feedback on the tournament.  There is always room for improvement, and while I feel like this weekend was a smashing success by just about any standards, I hope to continue to exceed expectations, improve where possible and do what I can to help grow the format we love and the community.

In terms of constructive feedback, I'd like to again echo my ongoing recommendation that this event do more in terms of match and video coverage.   I raised this issue earlier in this thread and in response to last year's event:

As a competitor, I would be more than willing to sacrifice prize pool or even extras if that means quality video coverage.

Video coverage is not simply standard for practice for virtually all major tournaments these days, it's vital to raising the profile of marquis events.

Vintage gets so little visibility these days, that video coverage offers rare glimpse of a format at its highest level.  As such, video here is not only fantastic marketing for the format, drawing new players and heightened interest, but also raises the profile of this event, making each year bigger than before by driving interest.

Even a minimal approach, with just a stationary overhead webcam, would be of great value.  The team serious opens and the NC tournaments have done this.  This was an notable piece of feedback from last years event, and I'm disappointed that planning for this did not apparently proactively investigate possibilities for improved coverage (you said no research on this was done).  I suspect that many players would be similarly willing to pay or sacrifice extras for coverage.  Coverage makes these tournaments immortal.

I'm really glad Jaco was able to do some reporting, but not having a video camera (even if it's recorded and streamed later) is an area for ipmrovement.   There are so few events of this size or stature.  As important as these tournaments are to the players, their most important function is to grow the format and to expose players to the format.  As you just said, that is your goal.  If your goal is to grow the player base and attract new players to vintage, then it follows as a matter of inescapable logic, in my view, that video coverage should be made a higher priority because of its capacity to reach beyond the tournament itself and be used to teach and expose new players to the format who otherwise cannot attend.  It also has the effect of raising the profile of the tournament so that it lives beyond the experience of those who attended.

Video coverage reaches far beyond the players who attend, and enlarges the Vintage community more than anything else, even this site, exposing players to the excitement and strategies of Vintage.  I think Magic Online can do this, but the Magic Online platform right now is so lacking that it will take some time for MTGO to serve this larger role.  In the meantime, it's up to you and Nick Coss to fill this critical role.
