Xtreme Games
2082 E. Grand Ave
Lindenhurst, IL 60046

www.xtremegamesonline.com

Xtreme Games monthly Vintage tournament Now on Saturdays.

12:00-12:45 REG
1:00 START

10 PROXIE LIMIT
$1.00 PER PROXIE AFTER 10 UP TO 20 TOTAL
$25 entry

PRIZES:
100% Prize Payout!!

Hope to see all of you there!
We also will be running a Booster Draft @ 3:30

BRING YOUR EDH DECKS!!

All proxies must follow these guidelines:

Please do not use the back of a magic card for a proxie!

There are two types of acceptable proxies. The first and most basic is taking a basic land card and writing the details of the card on it. The second method is to take a card that shares some of the characteristics with the card that is being proxied and erase any characteristics that do not match, replacing them with the correct characteristics.

All proxies must have the following text neatly printed, using a extra fine point sharpie. Ball point pens may not be used:
• The full name of the card (no abbreviations or nicknames)
• Correct casting cost of the card including all colored mana symbols
• All relevant/game effecting text

When choosing what card to use as the base for an erased proxy players must follow these rules:
• The mana cost of the base spell must be the same as the card being proxied.
• The type of the card being proxied must be the same as the base card.
• The P/T of a creature being proxied must be the same as the base creature P/T
• When proxying a creature it may be difficult to find a creature where all characteristics match. In this case, mana cost is the most important, followed by the P/T, followed by the subtype. Any characteristics that do not match must be erased and corrected.
• The art box, card name, and text box must be totally erased. White out may not be used for this as it affects the stiffness of the card and may mark it.
• When adding text to the card do not use a ball point pen. A extra fine point sharpie is the best thing to use. A ball point pen can cause indentations on the card marking it.
• For clarity reasons, the use of cards with the new card frame is strongly encouraged

In Griswald's defense, he was there, but never actually signed up.  Still had a handful of games with him before the other events of the day fired (I still won).

Might help if there was some carpooling to/from the North side of Chicago.

Even with 100% payout, the price of gas makes the expected value negative even if you're guaranteed to top8.

Duck, (sidenote:  You know I don't think I've ever formally met you and have NO clue what your actual name is... sorry man!)

I definitely understand your issue with the negative value.  Talk with Mitesh (Mith) Or Jaco (Jaco).  They come from the north side of the city, which might assist in the value constraint.

It also depends how far you're willing to drive.  I drive about an hour and a half, and frequently make the trip alone, but I don't have to deal with Chicago driving or the FUCKING RIDICULOUS tollway system.

If you play Vintage to have fun, your expected value is always positive.  If you play vintage to make money, you'll need a time machine back to 2008 or earlier.

Even if you take that as given, there's more than one way to play Vintage. Vintage also isn't the only thing I do for fun. Trade-offs.

Try tolls out here on the East coast.  You guys have it EASY.

I don't know what Soly's talking about.  I have an Ipass, so we just fly through at 50% off anyway, but we usually just take the roundabout backroads route to skip paying tolls completely.

It's the cost of getting there that's lost. 100% payout is 100% payout.

If there's a car from the North side of Chicago going, I'm happy to take you up on that.

Hey Mith/Jaco;

If I come down with Carly (the Ladyfriend), and play magic during the day, would you guys wanna do dinner or something in the city?   I'm trying to figure out what our plans are for the weekend, and I MIGHT be able to sell this one to her.

Now I just need to decide on Doomsday or Goblins. Maybe Doomsday with Goblins...

Apparently you've learned nothing from failed experiments in the past of bringing girlfriends to Magic tournaments.

Ah Soly, always the consummate gentleman.

We should offer an in-tournament bounty on Ben...someone's got knock him off his streak  Wink

Ironically enough, I lost all my matches except the one vs Mith, though he did mull to 5 in the two games that I won.

Ben paid my entry and I was able to get a ride from Mith. Thanks to both. More than the change in EV, it was striking how much the social atmosphere has changed. I'll definitely be attending future tourneys.

Could you elaborate on this a bit more? I've always had a positive experience in Vintage. It didn't get labeled as "The Gentleman's Format" for nothing.

This might sound silly, but folks were there to have fun and not to show off. Weaker players weren't patronized. Silly stuff. Like, when I was running RB Goblins and I had 2x Blood Crypt in addition to 4x Badlands so that I could support Pulverize I got asked if I couldn't afford the Badlands...at a 25 proxy tournament.

There also's a crazy historical value judgments and biases about certain decks and strategies. Ie. Bob, Gush, and Necro took way too long to catch on, Fish players were looked down on, Oath was looked down at as a variance deck.

This time around, I saw folks playing Rector-Omniscience and Ritual Combo without being patronized. If anything, folks thought the board states from Rector-Tell were worth sharing.
