I'm finally going to be able to make it back out to sling some sexy cardboard at Eudemonia! This one's going to be a blast! Can't wait to see everyone's brews with cards that are nearly old enough to buy beer!  Very Happy

My only dilemma is whether or not to compromize my aesthetic sensiblities to make my deck better by playing 1-2 English revised duals.  Sad

Mana Drain being restricted is a bummer. We recently put together a couple 93/94 decks but one was Workshop based so that isn't going to fly either. We'll prepare another one and do our best to field two decks in this event.

I might have to do familiy stuff Sunday, but if not, I will do my best to be there.

So, no guarantees. :/

I am still unclear as to what is banned/restricted.

Relic Barrier and Icy Manipulator still shut off howling mine tho right?  I had no clue Winter Orb was errat'd  Sad

On another note, why is Mana Vault restricted?  It wasn't restricted until the Academy Decks reigned supreme some 5-6 years later.

I hate that they neutered Winter Orb, just an awful decision that flies in the face of what the original designers intended (Icy Manipulator), he's also full of shit that it never saw "print" with the "correct" wording

but it's a fight I'll never win since they don't seem to consider prison strategies very fun, hence why a  brick like Black Vise stays banned in Legacy

That happened like two years ago Smile

I agree with you, for what it's worth, but you probably should have said something then...

Not to be a downer, but this isn't really old-school anything. The fact that the restricted list doesn't match any prior restricted list (Mana Drain?) and moreover the fact that Chaos Orb has arbitrary errata, mean that this format is basically a completely different, novel format with made-up rules. I'm not saying it is bad to have a new format, of course. That can be fun. But making up a new banned/restricted list and arbitrarily issuing errata mean that this is a completely new format with what amounts to a brand new Magic card.

This has been discussed at great length, and I'm sure will continue to be discussed in the future.

I like the format a lot, even though it is not an accurate recapitulation of decks/rules from 1994. The "Old School" nature of the format is due to the fact that we are exclusively using old cards.  We will continue to tinker with the restricted list, but the chances of returning to a historic format are low.

The moniker "Old School Magic" refers to the sets that are permissible and those that are not, not a set of rules or a historic banned and restricted list.  Old Magic refers to any format that does not permit the most recent sets.  As such, it is accurate.
