*ice Keith, another first place on shops under the belt!

Cool build!

How did the 3 Cavern of Souls fare? Did the Wurmcoil main get work done? With the Forgemasters do you think there is room to squeeze in one Witchbane Orb side board?

Congratulations on the first place, and to all the top 8, lots of friendly names on that list! Many of which hard tapping workshops!

Well a deck revolving around an uncounterable 3/1, I still think is a weak tactic against land still even if u pop standstill eot. Thief may be uncounterable but he is awfully awfully easy to kill in comparison to a win con like salvagers. I understand this howling mine land but I mean it's only OK imo...congrats to those who use it to some success though

I'm not defending NT at all. I'm just saying that you could do a lot worse under a Standstill than drawing extra cards and forcing the Landstill player to discard their weakest two cards as opposed to just one.

@ Jyuj. Cavern of Souls is sooooo unfair, I love it. When I first started to test this build it seemed like cavern on construct or golem was the max value play. After two events , I find that it "cheats" so much more. I was able to beat oath game one due to cavern on shapeshifter . I also like that it can slip in a Revoker when needed.
Wurmcoil is a BRICK  HOUSE; when he hits play the whole game changes quick. He was a big part of winning the second game in the finals.
The Witchbane Orb is a great idea and can fit into the SB with ease. I think would cut a C.O.W to add one.

Overall this build is real fun to play and has a great matchup VS most of the current meta. I was able to hardcast Blightsteel multiple times throughout the day and win on the spot with it and a pair of boots.
After a heartbreaking 9th place finish at Top Deck (51 people) and  a win at TPG ,I think this deck has earned its keep.
I would like to thank Shawn and TPG for a great day of vintage.
Mad Props to Chris M. for a great match in the finals and to all of my other opponents as well.

Agreed, it really does shine in that match-up.  What it does that's key under a Standstill is helps ensure you don't miss land drops that are critical to sculpting your breakthrough turn.  In my experiences that means finding a Cavern, making sure hardcast Mindbreak Trap is offline, playing an Abolisher and then winning on the spot irrespective of the opponent's overflowing hand.

Congrats again Keith.  Looks like all the winning decks this weekend were on Cavern.  Never leave home without them!

Good job catching that error and beating msg67183 to be first to post in the TO report. Your interest in the Pennsylvania metagame is appreciated.

Sarcasm aside, I have an interest in all Vintage tournament results anywhere in the world.

I used to write global metagame report articles that tracked all of the reported results worldwide, and I played the format in the days in which there were almost no reported tournaments, so I have a keen interest in all tournament results.

By your own metric of 25+ events being the ones of consequence, don't we have insufficient data on UR Delver to this point? It has to my knowledge 1 t8(2nd) that meets the criteria. Is there more?

The whole sarcasm thing stemmed from your hubristic need to point out that someone used your list to get 2nd place.

Can we all turn this conversation and focus toward the person who presented, built, and chose the best deck choice for the field that was presented to themselves, and worked to earn a win and entry to the NYSE qualifier? Though many may disagree with my thoughts/statements, I actually disagree and find it disrespectful toward myself and the winner ot thise event that many parties would utilize the report of another person's success/the day's field as a grounds to utilize their disagreements with one another/group. I hold tournaments for for the sole purpose of my friends/play group/the format in order for indivuduals to enjoy their time and success, and the posts that are received partially have been individuals that are defending themselves, chattering needless responses, or attempting to belittle one another. I don't care who created what list, it's who piloted the list on this day, I don't care how you feel about another person, that is your thoughts/feelings, I don't care what anyone thinks regarding another person's "hubris" or what their thoughts on the format are in general, I only care about THIS specific event. I'm focused on running a likeable event that everyone can enjoy taking part in. I dont get 50 particpants, so be it. Keith (one of my good friends who pushed myself to become who I and increase my success/participation in the format) won. Regardless of what list he chose, or who created it, who he played against, can we just focus on what he chose to play, how he managed the day, and his choice of deck. And let's also ask who his favorite person in the world is. (Keith - your response is required here):.....

If my response warrants a warning or more significant sanctioning, I accept this.

Congratulations, Keith. On winning the event, being a good friend, and accepting the fact that you only won because I didn't play on this day, since I never lose to you.

I wish the Mana Drain had a "like" button because I would like this post.

I find it extremely offensive that someone would accuse me of only posting in this thread because of a "hubristic need" when the reason I posted was 1) to alert you that a deck was misclassifed as RUG instead of UR (which you corrected), and 2) to comment on a possible tweak (Pyro v. Reb for Pyromancer) on a decklist for a player in your top 8 for future consideration.

I'm sorry that I inadvertently made myself a target in this thread for trying to to be helpful.

Congratulations on running a great tournament!

If anyone would like to add to the report, comment on the day, or ask questions of Shawn or Keith, by all means do.

If this thread continues in the same manner that it has, it's going to be locked and I will break out red text.

Time to move on, folks.

Shawn, Keith.... let's be serious for a second; Keith won because he managed to dodge ME all day.  (And because Chris was gracious enough to plow all the way through to the finals after dismissing me round 2 in a pretty strong fashion).

Congrats to the entire top 8, especially to Keith for winning, Chris for coming in second, and Brian for out-Library-ing me with Mikokoro in the swiss.

Props also to Rob Edwards for showing off his ability to wax poetic to princesses after the event (and teaching me how to do it, so I could, in turn, show him how it's done).

Thanks again, Shawn, for a great day!

Jeremy Beaver

Does he still play?  I've only ever played one round against him, and he still sticks out as one of the funnest and hardest people to play against.

Back on topic, how were the thorns for you?  Would you rather have had revoker?  I ask because my test list is ~6 cards off from yours and thorn for revoker is the biggest distinction I can see.  The only spheres main in my list are trini and lodestone, and it hasn't seemed to damage the blue match up too much.

Agreed on wurcoil, it is definitely one of the biggest plays you can make in a field half full with creature strategies.

He still plays.  He was at the Player's Guild either last month or the month before.  He was running a Storm deck with 2 maindeck Null Profusion, the time-shifted (black) Recycle.

@ Wiley. The thorns were very good overall and I kept them in more match ups that I anticipated. They  helped get boots and COTV in play or would eat up one of mu opponent's counters . When I ran this list at TDG I was on 4 thorn. I liked 3 thorn and 1 trin a lot better. I would like to get 1 more Revoker in the deck if possible, he is always a rock star!

As for Beaver. He is around and will hopefully be comboing people out at an event near you! lol

Congrats Keith!  We had great games and I look forward to playing you again.

Shawn, great tournament.  It was my first time at the new store and I enjoyed it.

@Smmenen - I borrowed the whole 75.  Plus, Beta REBs, man.  Who wants to find cards when they have Beta REBs right there? But, point taken.

Had fun seeing everybody again and playing the old crowd.  Hope to see y'all around more.
