Sorry to insist but Tabernacle is at least "as good as" Grafdigger Cage in the sense that it is just a speed bump for Dredge decks. Neither are back breaking but both buy you some precious time to either win or find more hate cards.

In the contect of this storm deck, I agree that it is not where you want to be. I like the Spellbombs, I'm less sure about the Jailers. You may want to outrace dredge so once again you could opt for 4 Oath package in the side or just add Cages so that you can defend them or Storm out with them using your Hurkyl's if really desperate.

For this deck, I think the main problem is the lack of defence vs U-decks: 4 Force + 2 Fluster is super light. I would add some Duress effects maybe by trimming:
- 1 Opal
- 2 Dark Ritual
- 1 Grim Mono?
- 2 Probes?
- 1 Time Walk?

Misstep is good but if you're only trying to protect 3 cards: Brainstorm, Acall & VT then I think that Duress fills that role better here.

I would also trim 2 basics for 2 more fetchs. If you don't run Duress, you may decide to cut all basic Swamp. If not 1 Island + 1 Swamp should be enough. Steel City Vault decks are even going further running the Mirrodin Artifact Lands instead of "normal lands".

Loosing the draw7, I think your deck is super light in tutor effect: Imp Seal, Burning Wish, Grim Tutor... look necessary.

Last I'ld consider good old Chain of Vapour in this deck as a catch all answer (I'm looking at Rest In Peace here) and as potential Storm enabler.

I was thinking about Grim Tutor as well, but running Grim Tutor necessitates running Dark Rituals I think, so maybe I'd have to run all those along with Duress effects!

As an update, I played it at a small event last weekend. Getting to lethal storm with Hurkyl's Recall was easy. Resolving Hurkyl's Recall was another matter. Thoughtcast was amazing, however. Running 4 was too many but 3 seems to be the right number. It kept pulling me ahead until I could go off. I feel like the deck could make use of an alternate win condition, maybe Jace? Sometimes getting to lethal storm is impossible and Tinker -> bot isn't good enough. I tried to redesign the deck making use of Dark Ritual and Duress along with FoWs (think older TPS style disruption).

The 4 Mox Opals became 2 because Dark Rituals really made it unnecessary. I added Engineered Explosives to compensate for the artifact count as they are really useful in a number of matchups right now.

I am still not convinced about Dig through Time. It was really good.. as bait. I never got one to resolve ever but it was pretty successful in baiting permission.

1 Flooded Strand
1 Island
4 Polluted Delta
1 Swamp
1 Tolarian Academy
3 Underground Sea
1 Black Lotus
2 Engineered Explosives
1 Lotus Petal
1 Mana Crypt
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Jet
2 Mox Opal
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Brainstorm
4 Dark Ritual
4 Duress
1 Mana Vault
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Sensei's Divining Top
1 Sol Ring
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Demonic Tutor
2 Hurkyl's Recall
1 Time Walk
1 Necropotence
1 Tinker
1 Yawgmoth's Will
2 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
1 Tendrils of Agony
4 Force of Will
1 Memory Jar
3 Thoughtcast
1 Mind's Desire
2 Dig Through Time
1 Inkwell Leviathan

Sideboard:

2 Island
1 Swamp
1 Nihil Spellbomb
3 Defense Grid
2 Hurkyl's Recall
4 Yixlid Jailer
2 Rebuild

I want to find room for 2 Grim Tutors somewhere but I'm unsure what to shave off. Any suggestions?

If I were to build a Hurkyl's storm deck, I would probably make it a hybrid between storm, the old Sensei Sensei deck and Turbo Vault + Key. As for a deck list, I don't have any, but there are a lot of great synergies going on. You might be able to cut the Tendrils and just use Brain Freeze as a win con. It combos very well with DTT/TC as well if you want to use either of these.
