After listening to SMIP podcast today, I started thinking about the format as a whole. It is pretty clear that lots of players want to play Treasure Cruise (myself included), but any time something like this happens new weaknesses are created. I decided to brew this UW control list because I like combo, and Rest in Peace seems to have gained a lot of value in this meta. When players can construct decks improperly to abuse a card there will always be some response. So, here is what I decided to try:

4 Rest in Peace
1 Balance
3 Swords to Plowshares
2 Enlightened Tutor

3 Mana Drain
4 Force of Will
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Brainstorm
4 Preordain
4 Mental Misstep
1 Thirst for Knowledge
2 Spell Pierce
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Tezzeret the Seeker
1 Tinker
1 Misdirection
1 Flusterstorm

1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mana Vault
1 Mana Crypt
1 Helm of Obedience
1 Time Vault
1 Voltaic Key
1 Sensei's Divining Top

1 Sphinx of the Steel Wind

1 Tolarian Academy
1 Strip Mine
3 Tundra
2 Island
4 Polluted Delta
2 Scalding Tarn

SB: 3 Containment Priest
SB: 4 Disenchant
SB: 1 Inkwell Leviathan
SB: 2 Pithing Needle
SB: 3 Grafdigger's Cage
SB: 1 Dig Through Time
SB: 1 The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale

Its been tough to get games today, so I haven't been able to thoroughly test this deck yet, but it is good to have a starting point. Feel free to reply with your thoughts on changes, or where you think I have gone wrong. Just looking for legitimate meta game answers here.

20 mana sources seems WAYYYYYYYY low
I'd go with like 15-17 lands on top of moxen and lotus. You want at least 25 mana sources in a vintage deck.

You could be right, I am not up to speed on building modern Vintage control decks. I do know that preordain allows for a lot of mana fixing.

Delver, a mana light deck plays 14 or so lands.... Just saying

This is way more mana than I am used to playing with. It is difficult to use more than this because of Gush decks. It is too easy to get tempoed out. The deck also has three Mana Drains for ramp. This format forces us to get really creative to be able to play anything but the obvious. I do think some new, really fun decks can be made, but Delver and Cruise decks will have to experience some pressure first.

Trust msg67183, 13 lands is too low (even after including sol ring). Any chalice, wasteland, null rod... and you have a problem. few decks play that small amount, and they top at 2 CC or play lots of acceleration. Strip mine is out of contention playing 13 lands.

And as you already posted in another thread, black fits too well here...

I think Grindstone may be the correct win condition for this deck. Thoughtseize would also bee good against Workshops. I think that I am going to give this one another chance, just to see if it is an option. I will work on deck changes tomorrow, and then I will make a post that includes results.
