Patrick Chapin seems like a really good choice, he has shown skill in and love for the format for years and has a great personality.
Ari Lax may have a somewhat abrasive personality on social media, but in person he came off as another strong player falling in love with the best format.
And if we are going to see someone come out of retirement to play I want to see Tommy Kowolith. I think Soly said he shares a mtgo account with him from time to time.
But ultimately there are a lot of choices that would be excellent to watch, which is a pretty awesome thing!

1. Adrian Peterson His awareness, patience, and celebrity status makes him a crowd favorite. Would draw a lot of people to VSL viewing. And diversity does matter. Everyone currently in the VSL is a white male. 2. Mike Flores The greatest gift to magic theory. I wouldnt expect him to be particularly awesome, but hes made some comments against the format in the past so he might be able to expand on that. The fact that he is asian also helps diversity 3. Paul Mastriano One of the best players of Vintage. The platform would allow him to prove he is not a cheater; he would bring the competitiveness of the league up a notch. VI. Prohibited Topics and Actions
Purpose: A small number of thread subjects have proven, over the course of years, that they lead only to bitter, angry quarreling and never create positive results. Accordingly, discussion of these subjects is no longer allowed on the forums. Topics and Actions Prohibited on TMD are:
3. Political Discussions. Threads on politically contentious topics invariably lead to bad discussions and flamewars. This has happened with such a degree of reliability that the staff may choose to close any thread in which a political discussion appears, even if it has not yet reached the point where other rules are being broken.

Gentlemen, as I have previously noted, all VSL threads will be strictly moderated. If you have questions regarding what the site rules are, please check them before you post.

As it just so happens, after reading this thread I happened upon the Shadowmage Infiltrator's twitch feed. I asked him two questions and got responses: 1) Do you watch the Vintage Super League? 2) What are your thoughts on Vintage, currently? His response answered both questions in one masterful sentence: I don't watch the Vintage Super League and I have no thoughts.
I don't think Finkel pays attention to vintage, and am unsure if he would be a good competitor to watch.

I don't think there is any point to having somebody join the VSL simply because they are well known. I think the most important quality needs to be passion for the format. I feel like most people in the current VSL are extremely passionate about Vintage. A great example is somebody like Dave or Chris. I absolutely love having them in the VSL, not only because they are both fantastic players and great on commentary, but importantly, because they are passionate about vintage. If we are to look for somebody else to join the VSL, I would love it to be somebody like that.

1) Nick Detwiler / Raf Forino / Roland Chang / Blaine Christianson - masters of the mud archetype (which the vsl is lacking)
2) Brian Kelly - awesome personality, very inovative, and brings a rogue factor to the vsl whIle still performing well on a big platform
3) I would say a hate bear pilot or someone known for being innovative in the null rod department.
Notice how I didn't name any players known to be strictly retired or current blue players. I feel like the VSL currently is so flooded with current and former blue mages that the meta game is a little stale and would love to watch some more diversity. I stopped watching the vsl early in its incarnation for that reason...blue mage canibalism gets old lol
Shout out to crazy man BRIAN KELLY :-p

I'd love to see BrassMan get a shot. Not only is he a long-standing and respected member of the Vintage community, but he's also had some competitive success (by which I mean the 2005 Rhode Island and Providence Plantations State Championship) (oh, and also 2nd at that Grand Prix).

My vote is also for Roland Chang.
He is a great player and overall good guy, have played with him several times and it has always been a pleasure. He would be a great ambassador of the Vintage community.

I think the newest member for VSL Season 3 will be Reid Duke, who actually loves Vintage, and plays quite a bit of MTGO (and who I think would be a great option). If you want to dream about most of the other fan favorites who are Vintage personalities you should start another league, because realistically it's probably not going to happen in VSL. They want huge borderline Hall of Fame names to attract viewers and legitimacy (and who already play MTGO), and most of the sentimental requests here probably aren't realistic to those ends.

I don't know whether this would be interesting enough for the full ten weeks, but they could attract even more viewers to Vintage by inviting some of the big name streamers like Kenji. These kind of players would also likely have a unique perspective on the format.

They could, but most of those streamers aren't Vintage Players. Considering the number of Vintage-playing pros that have declined an invitation, I'd like to see another Vintage specialist added to the roster.

Chapin would certainly be a solid choice; innovative and a crowd drawer.
I would also like to see Ari Lax, Ochoa, and perhaps a Japanese Vintage specialist.

They could, but most of those streamers aren't Vintage Players. I had this thought before the announcement but just now posted it. It was actually announced last week that the community cup would be playing vintage, so that might act as a bit of audition if those players being invited is a possibility.

I'd love to see Chapin. Also, as many have mentioned, Roland would be a great addition. He's an accomplished player and I think he would provide good commentary and analysis. Another idea is to invite whoever the next Vintage Champs winner is as an additional part of the prize.

Very nice April Fool's! Good thought by Randy and LSV, but I don't think they could ever motivate Kibler to play on v4

Is it sad that I consciously discounted April Fools and assumed this was Wizards getting upset about having their darling format over shadowed on Tuesday nights

Well they just announced next season it's being changed to Standard.
This is a fairly unreasonable interpretation. There's almost the same amount of downtime, but it's being filled with people casting bad lightning bolts and siege rhinos.

Ugh. I'm still hoping it does turn out to be an April Fools joke... Vintage Super League was such a great concept because it publicized a long-neglected format and showed how exciting it could be, in a fun way involving very skilled and colorful players. I'm not at all pleased this is being replaced by yet another Standard event, as if WotC wasn't giving Standard overwhelming support already... if you want to watch pros play Standard decks, go watch Pro Tour coverage.
