I just sent Pastimes an email ... hopefully it will resonate.
First of all I want to thank you and whoever else organized the scheduled Vintage at Gencon. making it a lead in to Eternal Weekend restores some of the competitiveness of champs at Gencon.
We all remember a few years back where theft was rampant, thankfully last year I didn't hear of any incidents. However the profile for the vintage events was pretty low.
I know a few players are still concerned about playing. The ultimate responsibility for card security is up to the player. I have a set of practices I follow that hopefully make me a tough target.
I was hoping in addition to running vintage events this year that your staff could help with security in the following ways
1) In the area where vintage will be run allow for an extra row on the edges of the event space (tough I know with all the stuff going on). This allows for a buffer and makes any lurking thieves have to be in the row of the vintage event.
2) No railbirding. Meaning if you aren't playing then there's no standing in the aisle. You can stand at the table end. This might require help from the players in enforcement.
3) A dedicated security rant before each event during the player meeting. I know some people will never listen but a brief rant to really drive home vigilance
a) Secure your bag in front of you
b) Bring only your deck in a box
c) When you are finished secure your box ... don't leave it on the table in the open while chatting
d) Help each other remember these suggestions
e) Remind spectators that railbirding is not allowed
thanks again guys for keeping eternal alive at gencon.
I mailed to the
info@pastimes.net box.
