Protoaddict, instead of DT, I liken this more to a Gifts where you always get Ritual and the insane one-card combo enabler of your choice.

With that analogy in mind, what are your thoughts?

If one were just looking for possibilities for this card, Mana Drain into Demonic Pact for Doomsday would be one. This is certainly not an unthinkable card to try out in Vintage.

It is a small thing but interesting to note that it turns BB into BBB for stuff like extra colorless mana into Necropotence and Doomsday

Just a few Jet Medallions and this can chain to make a lethal Y Will/Tendrils on its own. Very easily done in both Vintage and Legacy. Im gonna have fun with this Smile

This card actually has the mana efficiency to be a more consistent bomb than ad nauseam for the same initial investment. The fact of the matter is that TPS decks still mostly win through the formula of:

1. Mass Mana
2. A Tutor for Will
3. Will
4. Rinse Repeat for lethal Tendrils

This is the way that Storm wins without hiccups. Draw 7's are cute and all, but they can also backfire if you don't also have a Defense Grid in Play. An unrestricted pseudo Demonic Tutor could actually increase the consistency of TPS during the 1-2 turn windows it gets over the course of an average game. (Vs. blue this window might be after you bait out a counter and they DON'T topdeck the nuts - Vs. shops this might be post Hurkyl's). I'm just pointing out that I think this card is by FAR the most playable card spoiled thus far.

The natural home for this card would be the Grim long shell, which hasn't really played Grim tutor lately due to the inefficiency of the card. This card seems to solve that problem somewhat and grim tutor is not a lot better when petition is bad anyways (vs shops, at finding answers or setting up for next turn).

Aside from the obvious setting up Necropotence/ywill, Dark Petition would help to make bombs like Desire and draw7s more consistent like Burning wish does as well.

This card could definetly see play in that context, however I do not think It will really push the deck forward in the metagame. It makes the deck slightly better in general but it will not help the deck to fight the Workshop menace aside from being the follow up to Hurkyl's Recall or enabling a turn one kill on the play.

I do not think it will be a 4of in that shell, rather I'd expect 2-3, alongside DT, mystical, vamp and seal.

On a side note, Meandeck Tendrils would love a playset of these.

I am curious to see what this card does for Legacy. However the dis-synergy with Ad nauseam seems major.

I think comparing it to Burning Wish for Yawgmoth's Will is the best comparison we can make.  Although when you take a Will turn how often are you strapped for mana? 3BR vs 3BB + gaining BBB is super tempting I think decklists are kinda full on tutors and we don't see much Burning Long as it is. Seeing it replace Imperial Seal or Grim Tutor maybe but not as a 4-of in any deck.

To compare this to Burning Wish is slightly erroneous in my view because:

A.) You don't have to necessarily splash Red with this card.
B.) Rituals cast it.
C.) Most importantly, this doesn't exile itself upon resolution so you can use it from your graveyard to find Tendrils. This is a mechanical difference between the two cards that can't be overstated. I think this card is mostly better than Burning Wish in a dedicated Will deck.
