From both the NYSE Open as well as Eternal Weekend, I've had a lot of people ask me what my deck is all about and how it's built. For this reason I wrote a little something explaining how the deck plays out as well as talking about many of the card choices and how I ended up where I am, currently. I do hope you enjoy!

If you have any questions, I'll try my best to address them.

What was your record at Champs/NYSE? I don't think you say anything at all about what sort of results you've gotten

Loved this deck Hrisihi. It was easily the coolest deck I played against at NYSE 3.

That was deliberate, because I wanted the article to be more about the deck itself and less about my personal record with it. However, for your edification, I top 8'd a couple small tournaments near me, went X-3 at the NYSE Open and X-4 at EW.

Loved this deck Hrisihi. It was easily the coolest deck I played against at NYSE 3.

Thanks, Jaco! I caught a glance of your deck at EW and it looked pretty cool as well.

Hrishi,

It was great to have met you as well, Kevin.

Nice read - and so awesome to see a true Academy deck see the light of day again after so long.

I was wondering if the un-tapping effect of Time Spiral is best broken in this deck (ie one relying on a restricted card) or if you'd considered some kind of Vintage High Tide deck instead?

Another card I thought might crop up in your list was Frantic Search. Alas, it remains homeless despite it's unrestriction.

Anyway, great to see such a sussful re-imagining of a classic deck. Thanks for the write-up and congrats on your finishes with it! Smile

Hey, I do believe Time Spiral is the most powerful card in the deck (besides Academy, of course) since it does everything this deck wants to do in a single card. However, I feel that this has plenty of advantages over something like High Tide. Using Academy means you get to play all Moxen, which allows you to jump spheres easier than simply making your land drops. As I outlined in the article, post-board against Workshop-based decks I often sideboard out the combo entirely and simply use my superior mana production to my advantage.

Another big advantage which leads from running Moxen is the inclusion of Thoughtcast. Thoughtcast is just an incredibly powerful engine to help you reload. The inclusion of Sensei's Divining Tops to fix draws also helps this engine along. I tried to include Frantic Search in the beginning, I really did. Sadly I found that the card, while sweet at times, wasn't really necessary in the end.

Of course, the disadvantage is in relying on a restricted card, but at least it's a land! You can protect it by not running it out there till you have to.

Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed the article!

Great deck Hrishi, thanks for sharing! I played a bunch of double fisted games with the deck and it seems quite powerful and resilient. Would be curious to read tournament reports and how the deck is treating you.

I finally had a breather to sit down and read this article with the undivided attention it deserved.  Great work, Hrishi!  Both on the deck and on the writing.

Thank you! I had actually prepared a couple tournament reports from some past tournaments (namely the NYSE and such) and was hoping to write a follow-up article at some point, delving a little deeper into the archetype, as it were, and the deck itself, as well as the options available!

Thank you very much, Brian! That means a lot.  Very Happy
