I’d like to start this off by thanking Ray for a great tourney. Incredible turn out.

Anyway, moving on; lets take a flashback to Friday night. I meet up with some people to play a few games. All goes well until the driver for Saturday says, “I can’t go tomorrow.” This prompts the “Ha, stop joking” from me. But he confirms that he can’t cause he has to go to work or he’s going to get fired. It turns out he was not joking, and I didn’t have a ride. Fuck. He has his priorities mixed up… who really needs a job anyway.

I head on home, kinda bummed out, and get on the phone. The only other people that I know are going have a “full” car. The “quotes” are due to them really having room but were just misinformed. So I revisit my list of rides and notice that there is only one left, Dad. I call his cell figuring he’s already asleep but it turns out he is awake AND has nothing planned for Saturday. Score.

Bad night of sleep and a 2 hour drive later, I get to the Hotel. I walk in just following the noise, which leads into a room of around 200 people; A very unexpected crowd. I found the few things I need to to finish my deck and started to register it. It was Ubg Tog which I tossed together a few days prior with the hints and tips of people. Thanks.

Here’s the list:

3 Psychatog

4 Force of Will
4 Mana Drain
2 Duress
2 Stifle

4 Accumulated Knowledge
4 Brainstorm
2 Deep Anal

2 Intuition
3 Cunning Wish
1 Pernicious Deed

1 Ancestral Recall
1 Time Walk
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Yawgmoth’s Will

4 Wastelands
1 Stripmine
4 Polluted Delta
3 Underground Sea
2 Tropical Island
3 Island
1 Swamp
1 Library Of Alexandria
5 Moxen
1 Black Lotus
1 Sol Ring

SB
2 Pernicious Deed
3 Back to Basics
3 Xantid Swarm
1 Vampric Tutor
1 Fact or Fiction
1 Misdirection
1 Diabolic Edict
1 Coffin Purge
1 Naturalize
1 Berserk

After a Brief waiting period, pairings went up.

Round 1: Brett With Keeper

Game 1 is very unexciting. I paris my opener settling with 6. I waste his lands early but my first tog heads off to the farm. I cannot find a 2nd tog and he starts drawing counters and disruption. He rips a counter for my will then cycles a decree, which gets stifled. This earns a “Ugh, Stifle”, from Brett. He draws another one and soldiers take game 1.

0-1

Game 2 starts better for me. My first three lands are Island, Island, and Island, with his first 3 being wastelands. Opps. I sack a delta for a swamp and play a tog. On his turn he plays a Maze of Ith. I grin but I have a waste in my hand. He then taps 3 wastelands for a Damping Matrix. I think to myself, Wow that kills me, so I force it. On my turn I attack and he Mazes it. I cast back to basics and he scoops.

1-1

Game 3 is more of Game 2 with an intuition for some deep anal. I outdraw him then out counter him. He stays tapped down by back to basics. I asked him later why he didn’t fetch an island and he told me he doesn’t run any. But anyway, a retarded Yawgmoth’s Will finishes the game.

1-0 2-1

Round 2: Jeff with Mono Blue Phid?

Game 1 he parises down to 6 with me keeping my opening 7. He opens up with a Library with me wasting it on my turn and playing sapphire. I recall during his upkeep and he Forces and I force back. He plays and island and passes. I play a Sea and duress revealing Standstill, a Phid and a Temporal Adept. I take the standstill and pass. He draws a few more lands casting the phid then the adept. I draw a deed and deed the creatures away. I play a tog and start of winning.

1-0

Game 2 his deck seems to be more like fish with his first 2 plays being Spike tail Hatchlings but they are followed up by a phid. He beats my down for a turn then I cast lotus and sac the lotus for black and played a deep leaving 3 mana available. He sacs 1 hatching and I pay 1. I Use the 2 mana left to cast Demonic tutor for A Recall. He beats me to 14 before I can deed for 3. I recall at the end of his turn into Tog, Walk, Will. Rather nutty. I cast the tog and walk. Then I will, casting walk recall demonic for ak #4. I’m without a mana to wish and he has a factory out so I hold back and go to my next turn. I Ak for 4, wish for Berserk and run over the man land.

2-0 4-1

Round 3: Josh the 1st with Sligh

He get started with 2 flunkies and a Fanatic. I dig for a tog and cast it on 13 life.
He attacks with everything blocking the fanatic because I can kill him next turn if all goes well. He sacs the fanatic targeting me and I fall to 6. He bolts me and I let it resolve. Then he cast shrapnel blast, which I have to force. Now I am not sure if I have enough to kill him. I count it up and I have just enough to attack for 20 with a zerked tog. If he had target my tog with the fanatic I would have been 1 card short of killing him. Go Dealing the 1 extra point of overkill damage!

1-0

He starts off with a Jackel Pup followed by a flunky. He beats me down to 11 when I deed away his crew. He plays a scroll and bolts me to 8. I cast tog and draw some cards then Zerk the tog for 20 points of damage next turn.

3-0 6-1

Round 4: Josh the 2nd with Fish

Game 1 I paris to 6 and keep a land light hand with a recall. I recall during his upkeep and he MisDs and I force back removing a tog. He plays an island and a Rider. I duress him taking his standstill. He plays a faerie and a Thief. I storm Eot into a deed, just what I needed, Yay. I cast the deed and passed it back. He swings with his guys bringing me down to 16 and he activates his thief removing the 2nd tog. I blow up the deed during his attack step to save my last tog. He plays a factory and passes. I play a land and say go.
He attacks with the land and plays an island. I cast intuition during his endstep for 3 Aks and cast the one Ak drawing into the 4th one. I play and waste his factory and ak for 4 during his upkeep. This finds the 3rd tog and I precede to win.

1-0

Game 2 he double mulls and keeps a seemingly mediocre hand. He cast a turn 2 standstill with an Island and a factory out. I waste the factory and sit. He cast a cloud of faeries next turn… yay or no? I draw 3 and the rest is in the power of the tog and his beserkish tendencies.

4-0 8-1

Round 5: Eli With Slavery

This round was pathetic.
Game 1, he had out a chalice 2 Guilded lotus and random other junk so I deed for 5 clearing his board. His next turn he plays a Ancient tomb, lotus, a mox, mana vault, a third thirst, and a welder. How retardedly good. I cast a tog holding stifle for his Slaver, which he could bring back next turn. He, of course, has the force of will. Shrug. I have nothing that he can abuse even though I’m going to lose my hand and my graveyard. So I start my turn he checks for upkeep effects, and there are none. I draw an intuition. He cast intuition for tog, will, and intuition; giving me the intuition which he cast for 3 cunning wish. I then discard the rest of my hand and remove it from the game. I ask him if he would like to attack, but it doesn’t work that entirely well. He cast thirst number 4 to get Pentuvus, welder, and slaver right where they need to be.

0-1

I paris to start this game. He counters my spells with REB and forces while setting up his combo with all 4 of his thirsts again. I lose miserably and we joke around after.

4-1 8-3

Round 6: Dave with Tog. Bad notes for this match

Game 1 is a total blank. Sorry.

0-1

Game 2 we battle for card advantage with my Aks and deep anals being too much for him. A Tog nibbles a him until I can do lethal damage.
1-1

This was much like game 2 only a lot closer. We battled over card drawing spells and counters until I resolves and intuition for DA, DA, AK: This swings the game in my favor with my getting back up to a full hand quickly. I go to Yawg will while he has only a land in hand and he concedes.

5-1 10-4

Round 7: Josh the 3rd with R/G TnT Hate.

This deck was just pure hate. Game one was defined by him going, “I’ll strip your island, and cast blood moon.” After that a Brown Ophie could have finished me. For some reason he used a real creature in a Sui-chi.

0-1

Game 2 I parised the off color mox 0 land hand into the swamp waste blue card hand. It has brainstorm and FoW so I kept, hoping to draw an blue source. It didn’t happen before turn 6 and I was being eaten by a Jen/Sui-chi/Juggernaut mix by that time. He switched it up with a welder. So my togs attempting to chump just wasted resources.

5-2 10-6

After this round I was in 14th with the best breakers out of the 5-2s. I was talking to Eli and he said there was a possibility of a 6-2 making it if everything ever happened correctly so I kept my hopes up.

Round 8: Jason (leviat) with Uwr Keeper/land still mix

Jason is at 4-1-2(edited) and doesn’t really have a shot at T16 prize so he gives me the win and I split the Prize with him. We played some games anyway.

In the first game, he both draw some cards with him eventually cycling decree for a few guys. I cast and resolve a tog after a duress taking his wished for REB. Tog eventually takes the game.

1-0

Game 2 I get an opener with Back to basics and some basics. I guess that works. The bad part is that his hand has basics too. I get a tog out after he facts taking a disk. He cast the disk and passes tapped out. I start counting and while he is on 17, the most I can do is 16.5 after wasting my own land. I do 9 pitching and removing extra crap like lands. He blows the disk killing my tog then cycles 2 decrees to make enough tokens to kill me in a few swings.
1-1

We start playing game 3 and get a few turns into it when time is called and we have to stop to hand in the match result slip.

My actually record after 8 rounds in 6-2 12-6 and I end up in 10th. I guess not enough of the x-1s played since 1 6-1-1 didn’t even make t8. That’s what you get for drawing. Heh.

A few friends and I ran around town looking for dinner afterwards then returned to the hotel. Magic trivia is > than watching the t8 when smmenen writes a match report longer than your tourney report. Anyway a few guys including Jacob Orlove, who knows more random stuff then I’ve deemed healthy, just sat around going through piles of trivia questions.

It was a fun end to a good day.

Props
Ray- no explanations needed.
Aaron- Giving me a place to stay for the night and a ride home.
Leviat- Giving me the win even though you wouldn’t let me believe I might make t8.
Tog- For being hungry most of the day.

Slops
Chinese food lady- for yelling at me cause I was reading the menu
Weather- for making an already long ride home longer.
MasterTap- For making fun of my nametag. Die Sad [/u]

I was playing tog (Round 6)

I won game 1. You won games 2 and 3. (although it doesn't matter much heh) You're notes must be confused.

Good work! Hope to see you there next time!

Actually, my record was 4-1-2. My only loss all day long was to CrazyCarl... which seems to happen at most tournaments. I always have to play my homeboy Carl, and the punk always wins against me.

Conclusion? Next time I going to lock his world champ ass in the trunk so I can finally get a piece of the Top-8 action.
