Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [issue] are tournament prizes out of control?
|
on: September 28, 2004, 01:35:45 pm

Well, i don't understand why tournament organizers dont give away store credit to the top 3, like giving 60% of the total entrance money for first, 30% to second and 10% to third, then go for 15$ entrance fee and be happy.
That way, if enough players appear, you still are able to give away a Lotus or Mox for first, and you wont make any loses. That doesnt count in the rooms etc, but you basically get the idea.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Singlecard-discussion] Forbidden Orchard
|
on: September 20, 2004, 06:25:31 am
|
Since i knew this card is real i'm testing out this:
//NAME: Forbidden Oath // Creatures 3 Darksteel Colossus 1 Akroma, Angel of Wrath // Spells 4 Force of Will 4 Oath of Druids 4 Thirst for Knowledge 4 Brainstorm 3 Fire/Ice 2 Stifle 1 Demonic Tutor 1 Time Walk 1 Ancestral Recall 1 Mystical Tutor 1 Vampiric Tutor 1 Tinker 1 Mox Sapphire 1 Mox Ruby 1 Mox Pearl 1 Mox Jet 1 Mox Emerald 1 Mox Diamond 1 Black Lotus // Lands 4 Tropical Island 4 Flooded Strand 4 Forbidden Orchard 4 Island 3 Yavimaya Coast 1 Underground Sea 1 Volcanic Island 1 Forest
This version still is terribly raw and nothing i would bring to a tournament, but it's really fun to play right now. Against most decks, you dont even really need the orchard, but it still is really good against anything control.
I have the feeling this decks needs more counters to keep your threat on the table. And another thing this deck needs is testing, testing, testing. I don't think it can become a tournament regular again, but i can only repeat that its a fun deck par excellence.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Slaver Experiments: Something to try out.
|

Ok, no long article, just a decklist and a few words:
//NAME: I'm a Slave 2 U // Creatures 4 Goblin Welder 1 Duplicant 1 Memnarch 1 Pentavus // Spells 4 Chalice of the Void 4 Brainstorm 4 Force of Will 4 Thirst for Knowledge 3 Gilded Lotus 3 Mindslaver 1 Memory Jar 1 Ancestral Recall 1 Jester's Cap 1 Time Walk 1 Timetwister 1 Tinker 1 Wheel of Fortune 1 Black Lotus 1 Mana Crypt 1 Mana Vault 1 Mox Emerald 1 Mox Jet 1 Mox Pearl 1 Mox Ruby 1 Mox Sapphire 1 Sol Ring // Lands 4 Mishra's Workshop 4 Volcanic Island 2 Flooded Strand 1 Bloodstained Mire 1 Island 1 Library of Alexandria 1 Mountain 1 Tolarian Academy // Sideboard SB: 2 Fire/Ice SB: 1 Platinum Angel SB: 3 Rack and Ruin SB: 3 Red Elemental Blast SB: 2 Tormod's Crypt SB: 3 Sundering Titan SB: 1 Triskelion
Yes, this decklist doesn't differ a lot from the other Workshop Slaver decklists, but have a look at the card written in bold. Yes, it reads "Jester's Cap". What do you think... it normally should need 2-3 activations max and you could sb it out against anything aggro (as if). Yeah, it's old and stuff, but i think this could be a card that could win a lot of games for you, getting 3 Tendrils or so.
Just tell me what you think about that, it's an experiment.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / before everyone pops a million boners over crucible
|

Well, i'll try it out in TriniNT. First Turn Trinisphere, Second Turn Crucible is nearly a complete lock with Strip Mine. Ok, it won't happen all the time, but it will happen. Apart from that it also has synergy with the Fetches.
I'm not saying this is THE SOLUTION(TM), but it maybe something near that.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / I want U 2 B my Void
|
on: March 19, 2004, 10:51:15 am
|
Maybe a few of you have already found out what i'm talking about by looking at my very clever subject (*snicker*). Void always has been one of my favorite decks, and i don't like to see that it becomes to slow to disrupt most of the current decks. Including Green for Deed can stop your best friend's brothers Stompy and many combo decks as well. That's fine. Call me a bit biased, but i want back to the "roots of the Void". With that, i mean slowly stealing your opponents ressources, one by one, instead of "Tutor for Deed, Boom" - "Consultation for Deed, Boom" - "Opponent has no permanents? Anyway, Deed, Boom." So, i had three eyes open for any other possibilities. Currently i'm seriously thinking that you can go back to "Oldschool Void" and survive in the current speedy Metagame by including Blue.
What does Blue give to Void?
Stifle - Sinkhole is to slow. I think you all realized that, but noone is taking them out because they have been in so long. Stifle punishes your opponent for using Fetchlands, giving you access to mana denial blue shouldnt have. Also: It has uses after turn 2-3, whoopdedoo. Big Blue - Well... at least Ancestral Recall.
Anything else YOU (exactly you) can think of?

Eternal Formats / Creative / [Deck] Clamp of Kher Keep

@The Hamburgler: I mentioned Deconstruct about 3 posts ago. Oh, and Thopter + 2 Skullclamps is too clunky and doesnt have a place in this deck. I use the second Skullclamp i draw for Restless Dreams or similar. This looks like the best solution for me.

I have actually put some red in my build, running gorilla shamans as clamp fodder but also as a way to handle a chalice for 0, fortunately no one has chaliced for one yet.
As for Trinisphere... this card is doomed to slay this deck. But all you have to do is tap the damn thing.... urgh.
EITD I'm currently running Root Maze in the Sideboard. It slows you down, but it shuts down Sphere for 1 more turn to Naturalize / Oxidize it. Oh, and Deconstruct looks like its ok for Trinisphere removal and you can even combo out of it. Just for fun: A turn 1 kill with a god hand. 10:49:16 - Revolution is shuffling library... 10:49:18 - Revolution drew 7 cards. 10:49:23 - Revolution plays Bayou. 10:49:24 - Bayou is tapped. 10:49:25 - Revolution plays Dark Ritual. 10:49:26 - Revolution buries Dark Ritual. 10:49:28 - Revolution plays Mox Emerald. 10:49:28 - Mox Emerald is tapped. 10:49:30 - Revolution plays Skullclamp. 10:49:32 - Revolution plays Carnival of Souls. 10:49:34 - Revolution plays Kobolds of Kher Keep. 10:49:35 - Revolution's life is now 19. If youre running an ESG build, you can also SB Oxidize against anything MUD. Theres not much more you can do. Eh, no you can't. Chalice's best number here is 1 and not 0, although both are strong plays. I would recommend something that doesn't sit on either of those numbers. Chalice for 1 slows you down, Chalice for 0 completely shuts you down. You can still play Naturalize off the ESG, so Chalice should be something that we can handle. Leaves us with Trinisphere and Spheres to fight against. I somehow suddenly really want to use something like Artifact Blast in this deck, simply because it stops the threats before the removal becomes expensive.

This is the current version i'm running.
//NAME: Koboldpotence V3.1 // Creatures (22) 4 Crimson Kobolds 4 Kobolds of Kher Keep 4 Crookshank Kobolds 2 Xantid Swarm 2 Initiates of the Ebon Hand 4 Myr Moonvessel 4 Elvish Spirit Guide // Spells (34) 4 Dark Ritual 1 Mox Emerald 1 Mox Jet 1 Mox Pearl 1 Mox Ruby 1 Mana Vault 1 Mox Sapphire 1 Chrome Mox 1 Black Lotus 1 Mana Crypt 1 Sol Ring 4 Carnival of Souls 1 Demonic Consultation 2 Reaping the Graves 1 Yawgmoth's Will 1 Vampiric Tutor 1 Demonic Tutor 3 Tendrils of Agony 1 Spoils of the Vault 4 Skullclamp // Lands (4) 4 Bayou
It goes off turn 3 quite consistent if you Mulligan into Skullclamp.

Reaping the Graves... i'm even playing these in Fluctuator, should've remembered that. I'll give it a try.

OK, this is the Skullclamp-Kobold Deck i've been testing for some time online now.
//NAME: Clamp of Kher Keep // Creatures (22) 4 Crimson Kobolds 4 Kobolds of Kher Keep 4 Crookshank Kobolds 4 Xantid Swarm 2 Blood Pet 4 [card]Myr Moonvessel[/card] // Spells (32) 4 Dark Ritual 1 Mox Emerald 1 Mox Jet 1 Mox Pearl 1 Mox Ruby 1 Mana Vault 1 Mox Sapphire 1 Chrome Mox 1 Black Lotus 1 Mana Crypt 1 Lotus Petal 1 Sol Ring 4 Carnival of Souls 1 Enlightened Tutor 1 Demonic Consultation 1 Yawgmoth's Will 1 Vampiric Tutor 1 Demonic Tutor 3 Tendrils of Agony 1 Spoils of the Vault 4 Skullclamp // Lands (6) 4 Gemstone Mine 2 Gaea's Cradle
I found a decklist of that one online some time ago (Sorry, can't remember from where). The only thing i changed is that i removed 4x Serum Powder (really, the chance of drawing a hand you want to remove is around 0%) and added 2 Gaeas Cradle, 1 Spoils of the Vault and 1 Tendrils (I removed both Tendrils while consulting Demons way to often) The Cradle gives you an additional boost and a backup plan if you really draw into 2 dead cards. Also, it makes a whole lot of mana in your Yawg-Win Turn so you can get around a Stifle and play a second Tendrils without running in danger of killing yourself by playing creatures. The deck currently has no sideboard and simply falls to Trinisphere. It is delayed a lot by chalice and Sphere of Resistance. If i can somehow work around this, this is a cool combo deck. Err... Discuss.
