Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Where the hell did these come from!?

Though the process that makes these cards is fairly common practice now, when these originally came out about 2 years ago, the store in Maryland that was distributing them lost their 'premier store' status, and all higher level events (GPT's, and JSS's), because they aren't more than 20% different they are illegal. The reason that gamingetc tokens are legal because they are different enough from Magic cards that a clear difference can be seen. I expect that the website that is selling that stuff will recieve some sort of cease and desist order now that the boys at Wizards are on top of it.
Does this mean that since the proxies I do are clearly distinguishable from real cards, I can legally sell them? If so, yays!

I peeled foils off cards and proceeded to make myself textless (mostly unclothed) anime chick proxies. As anyone in Binghamton can attest, they are adorable. I'd be willing to make them for people if they provided me with the already-blank cards, and perhaps some cards as compensation for my time.

Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Slaver USA thread locked?

The thread was getting ridiculous. Everyone was (and some still are) beating a dead horse.
Yes, he should probably be running Time Walk. Yes, he's got one of the dimmest views of theory I've ever encountered. No, the thread probably should not have been closed.
What confounds me is why people are still trying to change his mind about his choices. He's made it clear that he's not going to change his Super Awesome Deck of Coolness, and he obviously doesn't have same brand of interest in competitive play that most of the people on this site have.
That being said, the "Magic is dying" thing just makes me sad. So many people say that because not everyone plays the game exactly the way they do. One of the best things about the game is its ability to support both competitive and casual players. WoTC clearly knows what it's doing, because the game isn't showing any signs of dying.
@ Eandori Look, you asked for advice on your deck and you got it. You then proceeded to tell everyone who suggested things that they clearly didn't know what they were talking about, and only when people patted you on the head and encouraged your "innovation" did you open up and start taking suggestions. So, stop whining. So what if everyone on TMD thinks your deck is terrible? If it makes you happy, play it, but don't go on and on (and on and on and on) about how you think it's competitive. If you think it's so competitive, paypal me an entry fee and I'll play it at the next Waterbury.
Personally, I thought it was the funniest thread on TMD.

Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Movie of the Year

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was amazing. (My favorite movie this year.) Garden State was also awesomes. (mm, the Postal Service. Natalie Portman. So good.) Spiderman 2 and Harry Potter 3 were better than their prequels. Hero is beautiful, but feels longer than it should because it likes to repeat itself. Hidalgo wished it was as good as Seabiscuit.
Closer is terrible. Don't see it. Alexander is worse. National Treasure is pretty bad, too.
Has anyone seen Phantom of the Opera yet?

I became addicted to Magic right after I had played DDR so much that my knees were starting to make funny noises when I walked. Unfun.
If JP and I are talking about the same thing, "floating" is what advanced players do to both prevent fatigue and move their feet much faster. When you see it, you'll see that their upper body seems to be stationary ("floating" above the pad), while their feet are sometimes going too fast to follow.
I've noticed that a lot of players expend altogether too much energy flinging themselves around the pad, jumping too high, and stepping too hard. Ignition pads are pretty sensitive, and the jumping around both moves them and wears them out faster than need be. It helps to practice songs below your level, so that you learn how to keep your center of gravity more stable. There's really no need to move your arms when you play, and just letting them fall to your sides naturally gives you one less thing to think about.
Something you could look into if you're reasonably handy is pad-modding. It's a cheap alternative to metal pads, and they make your arcade play much better. I had a really quality pair of light-up ones that were modded, but sadly they're no longer with me. Otherwise, I could send you pictures.
Modded pads are soft pads attatched to a large piece of (usually) plywood. When I made mine, they also had a covering over them so that I could play with my shoes on. Soooo much better.
PM me if you'd like directions on how to do it.
Other than that, as in all things practice makes perfect.

This is going to be the most AWESOME thing that's happened in Binghamton in... well, ever.
As for all you tutu-wearers, I understand the joys of tights and prancing, but can you really justify missing something that will be 200 proof, hard-hitting, super-duper, JET LI blessed AWESOMENESS?
Yeah, that's right I'm pumped. And yeah, that's ALSO right, I'm playing. Hope you're all not going to get upset by losing to a girl.

So...which one are you, then? The one on the bottom left of my magazine cover, the other one, or neither? I'm the one with the black hair. (The slightly more sane one.) By the way, that cover is awesome. And by awesome, I mean awesome in a vaguely ominous way. Somehow, I can imagine it coming back to haunt me at some point.

Jacob Or-Heart:
That's OK. Douglinn wants me very dead half the time for hitting on Erin.
I don't know though. The pic of I think Carl proving his mastery over some unfortunate but quite attractive woman takes the cake over random girls making out. You do realize that "quite attractive" girl is mine and not Carl's, right? Oh, and if I were to injur Jacob, it would be with a gigantic wooden cane (ask Kerz about this one). stfu noob
