1  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: Split Second + Triggered Abilities on: November 10, 2006, 05:30:11 pm
Split second has no effect on triggered abilities.

It has no effect and they trigger and resolve normally, or it has no effect on triggered abilities, so they don't trigger?
2  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Split Second + Triggered Abilities on: November 10, 2006, 11:51:19 am
How exactly does this work when it comes to abilities that trigger off playing a spell?

For example:

Erayo's Essence
Legendary Enchantment
Whenever an opponent plays a spell for the first time in a turn, counter that spell.

Wipe Away
Split second (As long as this spell is on the stack, players can't play spells or activated abilities that aren't mana abilities.)
Return target permanent to its owner's hand.

Tidespout Tyrant
Whenever you play a spell, return target permanent to its owner's hand.

Say I have an Erayo's Essence in play, and my opponent plays Wipe Away as his first spell for the turn.  Does the essence triggerand counter the Wipe Away?  Does the Wipe Away resolve, then the essence attempt to trigger with no legal target?

Say instead I have Tidespout Tyrant in play and I'm the one that plays the Wipe Away.  Does Tidespout's trigger activate?  If so, when does it resolve in relation to the Wipe Away?

3  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / The best deal you ever got? on: November 21, 2004, 11:26:20 am
UNL Mox Pearl for $20 in the last year.

Someone used a marker on the black border on the back, but hey, a $20 mox isn't bad.

The best part is that some Yu-gi-oh player kid was standing near me and thought I was nuts for paying twenty dollars for JUST one card.

Also picked up a force of will (back when it was extended legal) and some shivan reefs for 10 cents each and a morphling for 2 denying winds (you can tell it's a bad prophecy rare by the word "wind" in the name)
4  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / T1 in Southeast Virginia on: November 21, 2004, 10:42:56 am
Hi, I'm going to be around the Suffolk/Norfolk/Virginia Beach area soon, and I was wondering if there are any places to play or T1 players in the area.

I know T1 is "big" around the Richmond and Roanoke areas (mainly because of SCG), but I'm looking for places nearby.

Thanks.

Yeah, as the topic says, I'm wondering if there is a T1 scene on Oahu, or if it's just full of type 2 players.
6  Eternal Formats / Creative / [Deck Discussion] Lock Down Oath, very good, but needs help on: September 30, 2004, 10:18:04 pm

Wow, there's so much wrong going on here. First of all, Orchard is a LEGEND.

Orchard isn't legendary.

Next, Oath will NOT trigger unless you have fewer creatures, and it will only resolve if you still have fewer creatures. You can't tap orchard during your upkeep to activate oath.

I'm not a judge, so I won't comment on this, but lets assume for a moment that the game plays out like this.  How exactly does blocking the colossus and taking six damage cause a lock?  Sure, you can tap his stuff and prevent untapping next turn, but you'll never win.  Next turn you'll just oath up another dragon, then do...nothing.   He untaps, attacks again.  This will just repeat until he kills you with the colossus.  You can never attack either, since waiting a turn for summoning sickness gives your opponent the chance to untap.

I suppose you could eventually win by playing a diamond valley, then stalling long enough to get a ridiculous amount of life and win from there, but that takes far too long.  Why not just use a few mindslavers and white bringers?  Such a lock is much more effective, as your opponent can't do ANYTHING after the bringer becomes active.

I'm all for the split, but did anyone else notice that LED, Burning Wish, and Chrome MOx are 4x of in 1.5? Is long getting another chance to show how br0ken it really is?

What are you going to burning wish for?
