So we've got this nice big thread here, but I can't seem to find the name of the winner. CTRL F didn't even help me.
Who the hell won?
I don't want to know if two people split, I want to know who's name goes next to "First Place."
Owen and I split without determining a winner, with the gentlemanly agreement that when someone asked us if we won, we should say yes. I'd like to think we're co-champions. It would have been a good final bout but with less than an hour to conduct the game before the venue kicked us out, as well as myriad other reasons, we decided that ten rounds of magic were enough for the day. Boo! I was waiting to hear about an epic Steak and Shake finals! Of course, the downside would be you are eating at Steak and Shake Semi on topic: Wasn't there like an Applebees finals in some east coast tournament in 04? Only because the TO started the tournament at 2:00 PM. That's the only tournament I have head judged that has had to have the finals in a place other than the venue. -Matt

The first and most basic is taking a basic land card and writing the details of the card on it. The second method is to take a card that shares some of the characteristics with the card that is being proxied and erase any characteristics that do not match, replacing them with the correct characteristics. All proxies must have the following text neatly printed, using a extra fine point sharpie. Ball point pens may not be used: The full name of the card (no abbreviations or nicknames) Correct casting cost of the card including all colored mana symbols All relevant/game effecting text When choosing what card to use as the base for an erased proxy players must follow these rules: The mana cost of the base spell must be the same as the card being proxied. The type of the card being proxied must be the same as the base card. The P/T of a creature being proxied must be the same as the base creature P/T When proxying a creature it may be difficult to find a creature where all characteristics match. In this case, mana cost is the most important, followed by the P/T, followed by the subtype. Any characteristics that do not match must be erased and corrected. The art box, card name, and text box must be totally erased. White out may not be used for this as it affects the stiffness of the card and may mark it. When adding text to the card do not use a ball point pen. A extra fine point sharpie is the best thing to use. A ball point pen can cause indentations on the card marking it. For clarity reasons, the use of cards with the new card frame is strongly encouraged Examples: Welding Jar or Spellbook can be used for a Mox or Black Lotus Disarm could be used for an Ancestral Recall Train of Thought for a Time Walk Counsel of the Soratami for a Timetwister. How to Erase a Card: Acetone and a cotton ball or q-tip works well, as does a pencil/ink eraser (the white/grey split type) using the grey side. Before erasing the card, take masking tape and tape off all the areas that you don't want erased for a clean edge. It will take time, but it will come off. Directions For directions we recommend using MapquestTrading: StarCityGames.com is the only dealer authorized to buy/sell/trade cards on both days of this event. While trading is fine, please note that buying/selling cards with anyone except for our authorized dealer, or solicting to do so elsewhere, is strictly forbidden at this event. Failure to obey this rule may result in both the buyer and the seller being removed from the event without refund, and banned from attending future events. Star City Events and Mystic Gaming reserve the right to limit the amount of space being occupied by any one individual while trading, and do not allow the use of suitcases, handcarts, luggage carts, etc. to be used for the purpose of transporting excessive amounts of trade stock. We do not allow either of those for proxies at the SCG P9 Series.
-Matt Thank you for the clarification. Just wondering...Why are non-regular issue card backs not allowed in an opaque backed sleeve (i.e., undetectable), while cards that have been slightly altered in their thickness through thorough erasing, according to the suggestions for proxy creation on your website, are allowed? I would think that those would be more detectable during a game than what you don't allow. Can you clarify your reasons for this? Of course, it's your SCGP9 tournament rules to do with as you please. I'm just curious as to the reasons. TestDrive There are some sleeves that are listed as opaque and are really semi opaque and can be seen through. In addition to this, we want proxies clearly identifiable as proxies, so that judges can easily tell how many a player has when doing a deck check. -Matt

That said, all TO's have different expectations. Many are adopting SCG's standards, which you can find right on their Vintage tournament announcements. I've never heard of stuff like World Champ/Pro Tour cards being illegal as proxies. Same with Collector Edition P9.
We do not allow either of those for proxies at the SCG P9 Series. -Matt

Team Extreme will be rendezvousing in C-bus to dine at Thurman's then heading out to Indy. We'll be bringing 13-15 of the most savage mtg players to dominate the dojo. Man I can't wait for this Saturday. Are there any benefits for preregistering? You can pay via cc and you don't have to wait in line. It is however closed at this point. -Matt
