1  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: Seasinger and worldgorger dragon on: April 15, 2005, 03:57:13 am
3.b. Dragon's CIP ability resolves, removing your opponent's lands, Jet, and Animate. Animate Dead's leaves-play ability goes on the stack.
3.b.i. You activate Seasinger, and gain control of Dragon. Go to 4.

You can't even activate Seasinger with the leaves play ability on the stack, your opponent doesn't control an island.

Seasinger
1UU
Creature — Merfolk
0/1
When you control no Islands, sacrifice Seasinger.
You may choose not to untap Seasinger during your untap step.
T: Gain control of target creature whose controller controls an Island[/B] as long as you control Seasinger and as long as Seasinger remains tapped.

I think I won both match 9 and 10 :

TMD9 VS MTGNEWS9 : I abuse the new legend rule to kill his Karakas so he can't activate his mishra. Then I drop Starke and proceed to Starkown him. 6-0
TMD9 VS MTGNEWS10 : I abuse the new legend rule to kill his Karakas so he can't play his Preacher. Then I drop Starke and proceed to Starkown him Smile  6-0

409.1c - If the spell or ability requires any targets, the player first
announces how many targets he or she will choose (if the spell or ability
has a variable number of targets), then announces the targets themselves.
A spell or ability can't be played unless the required number of legal
targets are chosen.  The same target can't be chosen multiple times.

4  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Report] Sucking with control slaver (in Mol) on: April 05, 2004, 06:48:25 am
I also played control slaver in Mol, the list from Atog Lord, but with 4 brainstorms and only 2 fire/ice maindeck. I also cut a basic island for an underground sea.

I didn't take any notes, but here's a quick report from memory

1st round : Mono-G Land destruction
- Trinisphere hits the table, land gets destroyed, I can't find a welder to save my ass. A Mindslaver shows an ankh and 2 trinispheres in his hand. Terravore beats do me in.
- I scramble for mana, resolve a welder, weld in platinum angel. He scoops
- I fuck up with welder/jar, he kegs away my welder, plays null rod, follows with sphere and strips my 3rd land. I just needed to draw a land to drop another welder and weld in my angel to seal the game. Don't draw it.

0-1 (1-2)

2nd Round : Dragon (maindeck xantid swarms)
- first turn bazaar, second turn xantid, I drain, he forces. I topdeck my platinum angel and play it. His turn, he attacks, chain op vapor on my angel and goes off.
- I resolve a blood moon, soon followed by a welder and a pentavus. I overrun him
- He surprised me with his transformational sideboard. I mind twist him down to 1 card first turn but we both scramble for mana. I resolve a bloodmoon to stop his bazaar, but he proceeds to play mask with a naught under it. My blood moon kills me as I can't find blue mana to play cunning wish on rack and ruin

0-2 (2-4)

3rd round : Zombies (casual zombies)
- I counter his first few creatures, take some beatings from various zombies and my crypt. I resolve a welder somewhere, but I can't find an artifact to weld in. I'm at 3 life when I had to drain a 4cc spell (only 2 lands in my hand). I proceed to draw a fire/ice, I ice into a brainstorm, then brainstorm into a pentavus and quickly make more then 10 tokens and finish him.
- I quickly play a welder, thirst out a mindslaver, fuck up his board (carrion feeder), drop a flametongue somewhere in between and then find a platinum angel to finish him.

1-2 (4-4)

4rd round : Dragon
- He finds bazaar, quickly plays animate dead, I mana drain, but he plays necromancy and I don't have the force.
- He resolves an early null rod, but I take some card advantage with my library, play a welder. Dragon comes out and he mills me. In my upkeep I weld in the angel and he scoops
- Again, he starts with a bazaar, and at turn 3 I play an EOT thirst for knowledge. He attempts to necromancy me out while I only have one island untapped, but I let it resolve and with the CIP on the stack I blast his dragon (with force backup). It resolves and welder beats do him in a few turns later.

2-2 (6-5)

5th round : RG Beats
- He overruns me with burn for the welders, cheap creatures and a null rod.
- I go broken with first turn ancestral, tinker for platinum angel with in my hand a fire/ice, a mana drain and a force. 5 turns later the angel finishes it.
- He taps out to play a Troll Ascetic, I play a tinker and get the angel again. End of the game I still had 3 counters left while he was still stuck at 3 mana.

3-2 (8-6)

6th round : Super-Gro
- I resolve a welder, thirst into a pentavus and a few turns later several pentavite overrun him
- I outplay him, resolve a mindslaver, fuck up his hand, fire his meddling mage on goblin welder, tutor up the will to take the game. I then conceded to him because the people I came with were leaving already and he still had a shot at the price for best unpowered deck.

Overall, I was quite happy with the deck, but I really miss the ability to just quickly win the game. Several games I was just scrambling to keep up with aggro decks. The deck is also quite hard to sideboard with, there's not much room available to cut things out of the maindeck.
Besides that, same remark as Eddie made, very few of my kills were due to mindslaver. Angel or pentavite beats did the most of my kills.

For reference : my sideboard
2 Flametongue Kavu
2 Fire/Ice
2 Blood Moon
2 Rack And Ruin
2 Blue Elemental Blast
1 Red Elemental Blast
1 Echoing Truth
1 Mind Twist
1 Vampiric Tutor

3 pinky Starsky.dec - Ghitu Encampment - Karakas - Starke of rath
vs
5 wonkey_donkey The nether regions - subterannean hangar - desolation - nether spirit

In both cases I drop Starke asap and hit him once with it before he drops the Nether Spirit. Now he can't attack me with the spirit or he'll lose the damage race.

2-2

//Mod : Thorme and jhavercamp play the same deck, but have a different amount of points?

with simulacrumi can just control the game i draw and cut lands from the deck what you would like most?

I would like to skip the midgame and finish my opponent. Once 'tog gets in the midgame, you're in big danger anyhow. TnT is a beatdown deck, not a control deck!

Doesn't Skullclamp fit this deck perfectly? It allows you to put creatures in your graveyard and draw extra cards.

Target the wizard and him with fire/ice twice.  He cant force them both and live.  Misdirection is out of the question.

Of course, If he uses Daze on the first fire/ice then you will be forced to cast the second in response.  hopefully he wont have a force or Misdirection at this point.  You cant fire him for 2 on the first one due to the Misdirection fear.

I don't see the gaurantee.  Enlighten me.   Very Happy

Good point, I forgot about Daze! I think the opponents best hand is : 2x Daze and 2x Misdirection. I don't see a solution that could beat this hand right now.

Cast Fire, targetting the Voidmage and your opponent. In response cast the other Fire, with the same targets. That way you can make sure your opponent doesn't misdirect your damage.
10  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Skullclamp playable? on: February 02, 2004, 01:30:26 pm
I quickly created a combo deck, using Skullclamp as an engine to power up the storm count. So far I only played a few goldfish games, but first turn kills are doable. The deck still has no protection of any kind, but to give you an idea :

4 Bayou
4 Land Grant
4 Dark Ritual
1 Chrome Mox
1 Lion's Eye Diamond
1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mox Emerald
1 Lotus Petal
1 Mana Crypt
1 Mox Diamond
1 Mana Vault
1 Grim Monolith
2 Tendrils of Agony
1 Yawgmoth's Bargain
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Demonic Consultation
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Yawgmoth's Will
4 Kobolds of Kher Keep
4 Crookshank Kobolds
4 Crimson Kobolds
4 Myr Moonvessel
4 Elvish Spirit Guide
4 Tinder Wall
4 Skullclamp

The deck tends to run 'decent', but has problem getting a Skullclamp. Spoils of The Vault might fix this, but I'd have to test further.

Another idea instead of the Towers of Fortunes might be [CARD]Planar Portal[/CARD]?
