1  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: What's the weirdest thing you've done with a card? on: September 04, 2006, 10:44:24 pm
I've got a few dozen extra OWNs, let's find out.
2  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Why Tinker is more broken than Yawg's Will on: August 12, 2006, 07:33:45 pm
I'm going to look at this solely from the "answers" standpoint.

Tinker can be answered by any counterspell, as can Will.

Tinker, in it's most common target, can also be answered with Welder, STP, Echoing Truth, etc.

Will, requires more than one answer card should it be resolved. Even small Wills are disgusting in the CA and tempo they generate, Tinker, loses CA, but arguably provides better tempo.

Just looking at what the best responses are to each of these cards, Will is more difficult to deal with, though easier to play around. I would argue, that this "bomb" factor pushes Will over Tinker in the broken category, as well as general power level.
3  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Why Tinker is more broken than Yawg's Will on: August 11, 2006, 08:26:21 pm
Lotus-Rit-Will.

Lotus-sac a mox-Tinker.

Now, you have a big threat, but the Will turn is just going to be huge, as you have an additional 7 mana to do as you will with. Tinker is restrictive in its targets, admittedly, those targets are very good, but the very nature of Will is that it allows you to not only play threats, answers, and broken mana acceleration, but to play those things in one turn. Tinker fails to do this.
4  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Single Card Discussion] Black Vise on: August 09, 2006, 08:52:24 pm
And setting up some sort of Chant lock with a large number of draw sevens seems decent, but not nearly worth the randomness factor as long as it's restricted.
5  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: WHO WILL BE THE NEXT VINTAGE WORLD CHAMP><? on: August 09, 2006, 08:50:52 pm
Assume I copy and pasted Smennen's list.  Very Happy
6  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: List of Vintage Staples in Order of Importance on: August 09, 2006, 08:48:17 pm
1)Black Lotus
2)Mox Sapphire
3)Mox Jet
4)Yawgmoth's Will
5)Force of Will
6)Mox Ruby
7)Polluted Delta
8)Tinker
9)Sol Ring
10)Undecided (Tendrils, Brainstorm, Underground Sea, Volcanic Island, the other two moxen, or Tinker could easily fill this slot)

Each of these cards has a home in a great number of decks, and almost all of these decks could get by with 3/5 moxen. It's not going to be optimal, but a staples list isn't looking at optimal deck configurations, it's looking at what cards are the most necessary to play the widest range of decks in any given format.

I licked the first Mana Drain I ever owned.

Right before I sold it.
8  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: Coldsnap pre-release on: July 09, 2006, 08:50:45 pm
3-2, with damn good tie-breakers pushing me into the edge of prize support today.

I was carried solely on the back of Shape of the Wiitigo, 8 fliers, and more bluffing than any player should ever be put through.
9  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Re: Looking for Chaos Magic rules on: June 16, 2006, 02:46:09 pm
There's an option on Appr for Chaos dicerolls, if you get desperate, or want other options, just hit ctrl+f a few hundred times and take down the ones you find as interesting, and then asign them to random numbers on a chart.

My group usually played with a d100 just to really make each new game truly new.
10  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: Flame Fusillade and Creature Enchantments on: April 06, 2006, 03:30:19 pm
As a note, you can attack with the creature that is enchanted, and still tap the enchantment for the fusilade post combat.
11  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Your theme song on: March 05, 2006, 04:16:42 pm
Before every tournament, I always listen to -Human and No Leaf Clover
12  Vintage Community Discussion / Set In Progress / Re: Wording Issue for a card in my set on: March 04, 2006, 07:35:29 pm
Ah, I was going off the there is an additional main phase text, not the go back to your second main phase. (which would probably be worded as after combat main phase.)
13  Vintage Community Discussion / Set In Progress / Re: Wording Issue for a card in my set on: March 02, 2006, 08:01:04 pm
Not unfairly so, you're still not the active player.
14  Vintage Community Discussion / Set In Progress / Re: Wording Issue for a card in my set on: March 02, 2006, 02:55:02 pm
Just to make it a bit more playable, you might take out the "only on your own turn" clause as Drain hate.
15  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: Playing in Toploaders, is it legal? on: March 02, 2006, 02:52:42 pm
They're easier to pile shuffle. Just depends on what your head judge's opinion is on sufficiently randomized.
16  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Your Absolute Favorite Song on: March 01, 2006, 07:58:33 pm
Guilty little pleasure, "Burn" NIN, Natural Born Killers SOundtrack.
17  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Card organization? Print out of 9 cards for binders? on: March 01, 2006, 02:29:33 am
I've got a large binder filled with rares and chase uncommons, sorted by color, then chronologically by set and then alphabetically. Everything else is strewn somewhere between my dorm, and one of the other two houses.
18  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Favorite cover song on: February 28, 2006, 10:21:37 pm
Dresden Dolls: War Pigs.

I only heard the recording via intarweb of this like a week ago.  I was really disappointed, not because the cover wasn't good, but because it was fucking INCREDIBLE in person like a year ago, and the recording doesn't do it any justice.  80% of the Dresden Dolls is the interaction between Brian and Amanda, and the ridiculous energy that flows off the stage.  Most of their songs still translate very well in to recordings, but the War Pigs cover seems lacking somehow in that respect.

That said, I friggen love the Dresden Dolls.  My favorite cover of theirs was Science Fiction/Double Feature.

Amen. They did a Hallelujah cover at the show at the Fox that I loved, but just wasn't as good as War Pigs. I love the Dolls live, but I have to say, I can't listen to the albums over and over again like I can some bands
19  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Favorite cover song on: February 28, 2006, 12:33:41 am
Metallica: Stone Cold Crazy
Johnny Cash: Hurt
Dresden Dolls: War Pigs.
20  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: If you were a magic card, what would you be? on: February 23, 2006, 07:48:49 pm
Nah, something along the lines of

1UB

Discard a card: <this> gets +1/+1 until end of turn

Remove 2 cards in your graveyard from the game: <this> gets +1/+1 until end of turn.

1/2

 Wink
21  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Voting for the Magic Invitational on: February 21, 2006, 02:00:53 am
Oiso, but Fujita was very tempting. Two PT Top 8's and a 9th? Easily makes it in any previous year on the APAC ticket, but this year two Japanese players put together incredible seasons, and a third won worlds, I'd like to see him get one of the others, but APAC goes to Oiso.

And I'm 3-0 on the votes. I'm getting too conformist.

As it's my birthday I rarely have to do anything.  Wink

I love my life.

~this~   1UU
UU, Sacrifice a creature: Remove all spells and abilities from
the stack, replace them in any order. You may choose new
targets for those spells or abilities
2/2

I'd prefer the art done my Tedin or Beard
25  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Favorite Card Art? Tell us what it is! on: February 11, 2006, 05:36:37 am
Aye, but Ravnica picked it up a bit. I was at least reasonably impressed by the Heirarch art, and Glare didn't turn out too shabby. I haven't had a shot at guildpact to decide about the art.
26  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Embrace of the Ouroboro on: February 10, 2006, 07:47:13 pm
For some reason Oath came to mind right away, but I like the simplicity of the design.
27  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Favorite Card Art? Tell us what it is! on: February 10, 2006, 07:46:10 pm
Necro, Promise of Power (one of the best foils I've ever seen), and Rathi Dragon.
28  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Who's going to win the Superbowl this year? on: February 09, 2006, 06:07:46 am
It's a 16 week season, with 4 weeks of playoffs, and a 4 week preseason which unfortunately just came to a close.

Arena football is just starting up though, and NFL Europe will get underway soon, but for the traditional NFL, you're going to have to wait until september or so.

I'm not aware of any websites that broadcast game replays, but video highlights are usually available from the major sporting sites, espn.com, nfl.com, and the home pages of whatever team you're most interested in (links available at nfl.com).
29  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Voting for the Magic Invitational on: February 03, 2006, 06:28:16 pm
I wanted to vote Karsten, but MichaelJ just had so much going for him, plus I'd like to see how he'd do with 15 top pros. The problem was, Karsten put up results in both limited and standard, The "List" and 6-0 in the standard day at worlds is just an incredible example of combined talents that exhibit exactly what I think the resident genius should embody.

But in the end, Flores won out by a nose, largely because I'm voting Karsten for the Fan Favs if he's on the ballot. Antione or Julien has to be the European choice, though I have to admit, I'd like to see Gomersal go again.

Chuck Norris knows the last number of Pi.

Best two hours I ever spent.
