Thanks for responding, Ed. The structure of the tournament and the choice not to use the (now standard) modified play/draw rule after the cut were the only complaints I had or heard on the day. Everything else was great. Friendly staff who knew what they were doing, an awesome store & play area, huge selection of games and a pretty good stock of singles. I think my favorite thing were the loads of open board games to try out in the tournament room. We'll definitely be back.

Heard this event was....interesting. I'll let those that attended speak on it. Props to Murray on the win and to Joe Davis on the 2nd place finish. The prize support was stellar and I know everyone agrees on that point.
Interesting is a word. For some reason the judge decided to run an extra Swiss round and cut to top 4 which screwed with everything. Nobody was happy about it and many people were distraught. One of his reasons for doing it that way was so that it would be a clean cut and people wouldn't miss on breakers. Well my round 6 went to time and we drew, so my opponent missed on breakers. After round 4 there were 2 4-0s that could have drawn twice to make it, except in round 6 they'd be paired down and their opponents wouldn't be able to draw, so they had to play round 5. The structure was retarded. The judge also didn't use the modified play/draw rule for the top 4. There's no chance I'd go to another event like this, but we did talk to the store owner during the event and he assured us this wouldn't happen again. I feel like the judge did this because it was unsanctioned vintage. I can't imagine he would have run a sanctioned event in the same way. All that being said, the store is huge and very nice, the prize support was incredible, and the staff and players are all very friendly people and because of there factors, it was still a positive experience.

The automatic response to anyone that says "Well I'm going to make sure that I do XYZ to protect my cards":
1) Kenta's deck 2) Klug's computer
If your point is that no amount of protection is sufficient to protect against ALL thefts, then duh. if your point is that you shouldn't attend/bring expensive cards because of the risk of theft, it's up to each person to decide if it's worth it to them. if your point is that enacting additional security measures is pointless because things will be stolen anyway, then your logic is very faulty. I'm glad PastTimes has upped their security for this event. It's important for organizers and players to work together to prevent theft, but the bottom line is that each individual can do a LOT more to protect against theft than the venue ever can simply by being very alert and aware of your belongings at all times. Don't bring cards with you if you're uncomfortable having that kind of value on you in a public place.

Sorting the deck discussion into sub-forums by archetype is a god-awful idea. Some decks are difficult to categorize, some don't fit any of the descriptions, and some that fit the descriptions belong in a totally different forum. Also, it makes finding a certain deck more difficult because I have to click 3 different forums to see which one it's. On top of all that, some of the sub-forums have like 4 threads and it seems kind of awkward to have an entire forum with so few threads.

I'm going to try to make this. It's the last Vintage event in the area before I leave for Vegas, so I'd like to go. Problem is, I have to drop someone off at the Philly airport at about 7AM. Hopefully I have enough time after to meet up with some people and make the trip up.

That seems a little dramatic. As of right now, there is no snow on the street outside my house, and i'm 10 minutes away. the forecast for the next 3 days is "possible accumulation of slush of 1 inch". This thing is going down, and if you use snow as an excuse then you're just scared of facing down D3G in the vintage tournament. You know who you are, it's ok, we understand. I was worried about snow. I'm not any more; the snow has bowed down to me and I won. See you all Saturday! My old man works for the school district in Philly. As of now, they're shutting down the whole city at noon, to remain shut down all through tomorrow. I don't think it will be highly likely that the convention center will be open on Saturday.
On a scale from 1 to 10 how serious is this? On a scale of 1 to 10 it is as serious as a box of Girl Scout Cookies, aka -0.5 So this isn't accurate? http://www.weather.com/weather/alerts/localalerts/19106?phenomena=WS&significance=W&areaid=PAZ071&office=KPHI&etn=0006A small amount of snow through early Friday should NOT affect this event on Saturday, the day after Friday. I really don't think elementary schools closing tomorrow means that Philly will be nontraversable on Saturday. This thing is going down, and if you use snow as an excuse then you're just scared of facing down D3G in the vintage tournament. You know who you are, it's ok, we understand.
This, obviously.

Corporate Jet is fueled up and good to go....
I'm officially calling out eveybody to come and face me (especially some Meandeckers I've been wanting to face)... now is your shot at beating a Dutch player... as I'm attending this event 100% for sure. I'll be spending 6 days in NYC and 1 in Philly.
Oh snap! Nick, we need a team event. A real team event. I would want nothing more than a team event in which I get to play with Marius and another R&D'er next to us. Come on, make it happen! This, obv. We need an event in which D3G can show it's clearly the best team on the east coast. More like this event will show the dominating force of the 501st Legion! Nope, pretty sure D3G will dominate This. Don't worry Mykie, Steve and I invented a deck that uses Workshops, but it isn't what you think.
Best. Deck. Ever.
This. Fogo is nice but maggiano's is a half block walk from the convention center. Also, interesting note looking up the exact address of Fogo, it is located at 1337 Chestnut Street. Pretty sick imo.
And this.
