Yeah Jeff my mana crypt rolls were pretty bonkers.  The funny part is that Derek was the only one who actually typed out his deck list and actually typed that he had 17 cards in his sideboard.  There will definitely be deck lists for events like this in the future I would imagine. 

Yeah the infect decks had power and you get to play mental misstep too which helps against removal as well, which isn't that prevalent either.

This past weekend we had 20 people come out to Hi Score in North Saint Paul to play Vintage for a Mishra's Workshop.  The tournament was run well by Hi Score as usual and it was awesome to have the numbers we did even though we were hoping to break 30. Derek Estelle ended up taking first place, but it was discovered after the tournament that he had a 17 card sideboard according to his decklist.   When asked about it Derek made no effort to explain why that was and has been impossible to get a hold of to tell his side of the story.  This was not discovered until the day after the tournament and Derek has left the Minnesota vintage facebook group and actually deleted his facebook altogether and is still not responding to any form of contact.  It has come to our attention that this is not the first time Derek has cheated or stolen from the magic community.  This leads us in the Minnesota vintage community to believe that he cheated, whether it was deliberate or not makes no difference.  Unfortunately the Workshop will probably not be recovered and given to the runner up.  This is a travesty and measures will be taken to make sure this does not happen again at any vintage tournament in the Twin Cities area as this is unacceptable behavior.  I still feel that posting the top 4 decklists is helpful information for the community at large as the other decks in the top 4 are interesting, so I will do so, but will not post Derek’s sb. We had 5 rounds of swiss with a cut to Top 4.  Here is the metagame breakdown

Oh that's awesome!  I lived in Fargo for a year about 3 years ago and missed playing vintage while I was there, too bad we never ran into each other.  We just had 14 people for this past Saturday, which was great.  If you don't mind me asking, what would get you to make the drive?

Another advantage that Aegis of the Gods has over True Believer that should be noted is that you can target yourself with Ancestral Recall with Aegis in play, but not True Believer.  Making 4-color humans another option as well as junk.

Yeah ever since vintage champs people have caught the bug big time.  The turnouts have been good despite sketchy weather so can't wait to see how things go when the snow goes away, if ever.

Hi Score Video Games in North Saint Paul, MN hosted it's second big vintage tournament with a Mox Jet for first place.  24 brave participants came out to battle for the mox.  There could have easily been 30+ people if the weather and the roads were better, but with 24 that made for 5 rounds of swiss with a cut to Top 8.  The metagame had a lot less Workshops then the previous tournament.  There were plenty of blue decks of all varieties, 2 dredge decks and various combo decks, such as burning oath, storm and mono blue belcher. 

Congratulations to Daniel Weiser on winning the Mox Jet and thanks to all who came out and made this tournament a great experience and thank you to Steven Farkas for judging the event.

     Monster Den held an unlimited proxy vintage tournament in Minneapolis, Minnesota on January 19th, 2013 with 4 rounds of Swiss with a cut to Top 4.  First prize was awarded a choice between an unlimited Badlands or an unlimited Plateau with second place receiving the unchosen dual land.  We had 11 players in attendance and the metagame was, once again, quite eclectic.  It was especially different from last month, in which 30% of the metagame was workshop decks, and this month having none in attendance.  The two finalists split the prizes.

Definitely going to be there!  The last tournament had a great turnout and I hope we can repeat.  The competition and the atmosphere were both great.

     Thank you so much for replying and helping correct the metagame breakdown.  I was trying to remember the decks from memory so I am not surprised a missed one.    I had a ton of fun at the event and it was great to see so many people from out of town and hopefully with such a great turnout, Jason will decide to do this monthly because I love vintage and it is always a good time for sure.  I also think that the difference was that the event was posted on TMD, whereas the last couple of vintage events were not, so hopefully lesson learned.

Monster Den held a Vintage tournament on December 1st in St. Paul, MN, there were 20 participants (great turnout, unlimited proxies) with five rounds of swiss and a cut to the Top 8 and prizes for Top 4.  3rd and 4th place got packs while first place got a Revised Underground Sea and 2nd place got their choice of either a revised Taiga or a revised Badlands.  The Top 2 split prizes.  Even though there were a lot of Workshop decks there was a good mix among the other decks and many of the decks in the format were represented.
