1  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Wild Zombies on: December 26, 2005, 06:34:58 pm
The thing the nether shadows/ghouls/ichorids do is make the stax matchup bacially a bye. I won a game where i mulled to 3 andhe went first turn trini second turn crucible strip my bazzar...
2  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Wild Zombies on: December 14, 2005, 08:42:58 pm
I built a similar deck. Only my version have ashen ghouls and nethershadows instead of ichorids. I also play both gravetroll and stinkweed imp for dredge. The great thing about the bazzar/dredge engine is that you dont need to mock around with creatures like putrid imp/mongrel/tog.

// Lands
    4  Polluted Delta
    2  Swamp
    3  Underground Sea
    4  Bazaar of Baghdad
    3  Bayou
    1  Strip Mine
    2  Wasteland
// Creatures
    4  Ashen Ghoul
    1  Wonder
    4  Nether Shadow
    3  Squee, Goblin Nabob
    4  Golgari Grave-Troll
    4  Stinkweed Imp
// Spells
    1  Imperial Seal
    1  Ancestral Recall
    1  Time Walk
    1  Crop Rotation
    1  Vampiric Tutor
    3  Zombie Infestation
    1  Demonic Tutor
    1  Mox Pearl
    3  Life from the Loam
    1  Mox Emerald
    1  Mox Jet
    1  Mox Ruby
    1  Mox Sapphire
    4  Cabal Therapy

this deck can win from playing as few as 0 spells but obviusly you want to play as many therapies you as as to disrupt the opponent, against stax though you dont even need to play spells, you get free permanents every upkeep and that matchup is basically a bye, not even uba mask do anything as dredge is a replacement effect. Nether shadow might seem small and dont do enough but at the speed you rip through your deck the only thing that matter is that they are free and they often deal more dmg than the ashen ghouls. There probably should be some darkblasts main, as a way to deal with problem creatures though deathspark would not be so good as it would often end up not returning with a build like this here it is more about just dumping every card into the yard and get something back instead of recuring chosen cards. quantety over qualety to say it that way. Null rod might be the right call for a deck like this as this dont realy abuse the fast mana the way some other decks can, on the other hand you end up casting like 1-2 spells a game not including flashback and that means you dont realy got many draws to draw the relevant cards. Infestation are needed cause we can only play 4 bazzar + tutors and sometimes they are good vs creatures.
3  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [single card discusion] Moonring Mirror on: December 02, 2004, 06:23:41 pm
Moonring Mirror
Whenever you draw a card, remove the top card of your library from the game face down.  At the begining of your upkeep, you may remove your hand from the game face down. If you do, put all cards removed from the game by Moonring Mirror into your hand.

I have reacently played this card from Champions of Kamiwaga a lot in limited and begun to wonder. Can this be playable in type 1? There is a lot of card drawing going on and this is obviously quite broken with brainstorm. Also it is quite easy to power out with workshop. One big problem ofc is that almost none deck plays both. It can also get out quite easy with welder and/or mana drain. This might be able to fit into control slaver or maybe stax as a draw engine. One problem with this card is that it is a card drawing engine which require you to run lots of other card drawing for it to be any good. I am going to test it out in my control slaver deck soon and will post some results here. I wanted to just fling the idea out here and i am sorry that i have not tested it mutch. hope i did not break any rules.
4  Eternal Formats / Creative / A look at a deck.. on: October 29, 2004, 06:44:09 am
This deck does sutch things as no-glimpse mulligans. Why did you remove the Serum powders  from MaGo's build? it is what makes it work... http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/daily/mg147

The First thing i though when i saw MaGo's build was why no Skullclamps? I think that those might been neded in your build too, they might be a litle mana intensive though, and then you would end up with the common kobold clam deck. This deck should definatly run some tutors.
5  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Fitting Skullclamp into Vintage, Attempt #3 on: October 21, 2004, 02:04:01 pm
Some suggestions:
Why are there no crop rotaions in these lists? it is very good. Fetches academy/cradle depending on what you need. Also tinder wall is made for this deck. I often find that with just 15 critters you simply run out of steam. This deck is soo fun to play. One problem though, it got no disruption. Glimpse have made this playable. also esg is amazing in this deck. it gives you extra mana and it can even draw you extra cards when hardcast.
6  Eternal Formats / Creative / Budget slaver on: October 18, 2004, 04:51:53 pm
I have realy wanted to try out control slaver for some time. One problem though, I don't own any power. So here i decided to build my own budget version of the deck. I got a great deal of inspiration from this thread: http://www.themanadrain.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15444. I have to give some credits to those guys. Since it is buget Ancestral Recall and Time Walk is out of the deck. That and the fact that you cant replay moxen nor lotus makes Yawgmoth's Will mutch worse than in the powered verson. I have therefor decided to cut black compleetly. With the abscense of moxen the deck come up lacing in artifacts. Therfor i have added some artifact lands. That again leads to adding Crucible of Worlds for another and in my opinion easyer way to get the hardlock. Crucible of Worlds and the fact that i am only running two colors makes way for another addition to the deck, that of strips. Here is the decklist:

// Mana
    2 Darksteel Citadel
    5 Island
    4 Volcanic Island
    4 Polluted Delta
    4 Wasteland
    1 Strip Mine
    2 Seat of the Synod
    1 Great Furnace
    1 Mana Crypt
    1 Mana Vault
    1 Sol Ring

// Creatures
    4 Goblin Welder
    1 Pentavus
    2 Gorilla Shaman
    1 Platinum Angel

// Spells
    2 Crucible of Worlds
    2 Fire/Ice
    3 Mindslaver
    4 Mana Drain
    4 Thirst for Knowledge
    4 Force of Will
    4 Brainstorm
    1 Fact or Fiction
    1 Memory Jar
    1 Tinker

The sb should be built more or less the same way as with the powered verson. Keep in mind though that this deck is a bit slower than the orginal and you got a lot less acceleration. As it is i have actually been killed by crypt + vault damage multiple times.

Some modifications that could be made would be adding one more Crucible of Worlds, cutting the Gorilla Shamans, adding Cunning Wish and change the number of Brainstorms and/or Fire/Ice. As it is this is the verson I feel most comfortable with and it has been testing well on Magic Workstation(though the quality of players there might not be the best). I am planing on bringing this verson or somthing similar to a local tourny next weekend and that will be it's first true test. I will come back to you with how it went.

Any feedback, sugestions or help will be welcome.
7  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / t1.5 on: October 11, 2004, 01:16:45 pm
How about doing what we do over here? Play it with the t1.5 banned list. Anyways i need some help to get a deck. Any imput would be welcome.
8  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / white on: October 10, 2004, 05:13:53 pm
I went the other direction with this deck: white
I played it in a tourny today though i had to leave early and only got to play 3 rounds. it was sanctioned so no proxies was allowed. The decklist might be a bit subpar as i dont got all the cards yet(have not played for very long).

// Lands
    4 Wasteland
    1 Strip Mine
    2 Tundra
    1 Polluted Delta
    12 Island
    3 Plains

// Creatures
    4 Ophidian

// Spells
    2 Vedalken Shackles
    4 Mana Drain
    4 Force of Will
    4 Swords to Plowshares
    4 Impulse
    1 Fact or Fiction
    1 Nevinyrral's Disk
    4 Counterspell
    3 Chalice of the Void
    1 Decree of Justice
    2 Back to Basics
    2 Deep Analysis
    1 Balance

I had a sb but that was soo bad that i wont even list it here.

Even though my decklist might not be the best, i still think that white is superiour to black because stp just is soo good against everything but combo and morphling. Also balance is a house and you get an uncountrable wincondition in decree. Yawgmoths will is just not very good when all that hit your graveyard is lands and counterspells. You also dont got very much good to fetch with tutors in that deck.

Anyway, in the tourny i played 3 rounds. First round i squared of against a semi-powered tog deck without mana drains. The first game i won on the back of back to basics and chalice. The second i took when he got mana flooded and i just countered everything he did.

The second match i faced of against a almost mono-black masknaught deck with a bit of blue(for power, recoil and b2b sb i think). He got out an early hypnotic specter which i was not able to counter due to duress and unmasks and it just went downhill from there. I was not able to get a white mana early enough(problem with me not having enough fetches) and just sucumbed to the beatdown after a dreadnaught joined the fray. Game 2 he drew 1 black mana source and that I wasted so my ophidians was able to go all the way. Game 3 was actually pretty close. He got a slow start. His first play was a turn 2 Negator. After taking a hit i managed to get some soldiers in the way with the help of mana from a drain on his unmask. I got down an ophidian but could do nothing but hit with a couple of soldiers as his negator was in the way. He managed to resolve a mask after some duress action and beat me to death with a naught before i could find a stp or disenchant.

In my 3rd match i met fish. He got down some quick fliers but stalled on land so he could do nothing when my disk wiped the board. I got down a ophidian and coupled with a chalice set at 1 he could do nothing but scoop as i just continued to accumulate cards. In game 2 he did almost nothing the few first turns. I managed to resolve a back to basics when he was tapped out. Unfortunatly he ripped a red elemental blast of the top and managed to destry it. Then he managed to resolve a standstill with the help of some Force and Daze. With the help of my mana screw, the manalands beat me to death. In game 3 he managed to break 2 of his own standstills. He just could not find any man lands and my soldiers beat him to death.

I think that this deck can be a viable budget deck in the right metagames. Null rod might be the way to go as it fits perfectly in with the rest of the deck's mana denial strategy. In that case the disks/kegs/shakles have to go. I would definatly up the number of Back to basics. Also the mana base can be improved ALOT. I would also add another decree. With all that maindeck hate this deck dont got as mutch problem with critters as a traditional mono blue deck. However the manabase need to be fixed if it is to play consistent.
9  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / where is the best place to find deck lists? on: October 02, 2004, 08:15:34 pm
i think you can get some decklists by looking at some threads here...
10  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / point on: October 01, 2004, 05:09:46 pm
The point is that i dont have two sets of power so i dont got that luxury. The guy who does have two sets does however so i'll have a though time beating him no matter what he plays as a kill condition. At the moment i think he is playing arcbound ravagers and stroke of genius as kill conditions.

Anyways i got around to borrow some cards and here is the list i probably will be playing:

// Lands
    1 Tolarian Academy
    6 Island
    4 Mishra's Workshop
    1 City of Brass
    2 City of Traitors
    4 Glimmervoid

// Creatures
    2 Triskelion
    1 Razormane Masticore
    4 Duplicant
    3 Karn, Silver Golem
    3 Metalworker
    2 Memnarch

// Spells
    2 Serum Powder
    1 Mox Diamond
    1 Mana Vault
    1 Mana Crypt
    3 Stroke of Genius
    1 Wheel of Fortune
    1 Grim Monolith
    4 Gilded Lotus
    4 Trinisphere
    4 Tangle Wire
    4 Memory Jar
    1 Mindslaver

I have not yet decided on a sb but i know it will include at least some challice of the void. My deck is not optimal because i quite frankly could not get the cards. I'll tell you how it went after the tourny.
11  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / storm on: September 26, 2004, 10:31:03 am
Tendrils and brainfreez is out too so storm wont work very well
misdirection seems like a good inclusion..

My real problem though is that i need a deck that i need a deck able to beat all those other unpowered and 1 set power decks. What i need is a deck with inherited sthrength composed of just rares and basic lands and maybe able to beat first turn win.combo.
12  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / cards on: September 22, 2004, 06:04:36 pm
There is no restricted list....
and you can play with basic lands.

It is gonna be first turn kill all over the place and the coinflip tournament.

However not all got multiple sets of power(we have one guy who got 2 but that is about it...) so most ppl play something less blazing. ¨

I need to come up with a decklist that can compete in that comborific enviroment even without power...
13  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Budget] Reviving Budget Oath on: September 20, 2004, 04:31:33 pm
You could make this faster by including bragon breath and berserk, either reduce by 1 turn and both reduce by 2 turns... Of course then you would have a much more aggro verson.
14  Eternal Formats / Creative / [Singlecard-Discussion]Cranial Extraction on: September 20, 2004, 03:43:42 pm
Cranial Extraction 3B
Sorcery — Arcane
Name a nonland card. Search target player’s graveyard, hand, and library for all cards with that name and remove them from the game. Then that player shuffles his or her library.

Cranial Extraction is an amazing card. It allows you to remove all copies of a card from your opponents library. In a way it acts much like Lobotomy. Lobotomy is not played today, but the reasons for it not to be played is just why Cranial Extraction is good. It let you take any card, not just one in their hand. So against Psycatog you steal their namesake and against any form of combo you just take their kill and suddenly their deck does nothing... This definatly have potential and i actually think that if someone manage to break it, it might be restricted. It fit right in with 4cc and keepers gameplan. The only deck i can not see it working against of the top of my head is fish, but you can always go for their fow's or null rods, a pity you cant name wasteland.

So anyone got some more thoughts on this card or maybe some decklists with this card?
15  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Cranial Exctraction on: September 20, 2004, 03:20:14 pm
Like i said in a post somewhere else this card is soo nuts with exctraction. Watch 4cc/slaver/keeper/tps/anythingwithfewwincondtionsorrelyesonsinglecards scoop if they dont get that wasteland and if they get it, will they use it on your land or try to do something broken on their own? Afte all it wont produce colored mana... And obw there is always Yawgmoths Will....
16  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / All Rares on: September 20, 2004, 02:47:37 pm
We have an all rare tournament tournament comming up soon and i want to be able to play, the problem is though i dont have any power and only one of each of the other mana accellerators. Anyone can help me with what i should do?
17  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Cranial Exctracton on: September 20, 2004, 02:30:47 pm
Boseiju, Who Shelters All actually works quite nice with Cranial Exctraction. We have this one realy inventive t1 player at our place and i saw him playing a deck with those cards and a couple of other new ones the day after the first prerelease. It totaly owns everything with few winconditions and if all else fail you can just say Yawgmoths will.... Taking out the Morphlings/Angels of control just make the deck not able to kill. Of course it is Cranial Extraction that is broken (I cant understand why noone else have mentioned it) but Boseiju, Who Shelters All can do some nasty things too. Uncountrable Yawgmoths Will is some good...
18  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Singlecard-discussion] Forbidden Orchard on: September 20, 2004, 12:41:04 pm
Would not turo oath work. like get ds collosus and hit with berserk. Something like this:

// Creatures
2 Darksteel Colossus
// Spells
4 Force of Will
4 Oath of Druids
4 Brainstorm
3 Dragon Breath
4 Berserk
3 Thirst for Knowledge
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Time Walk
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Tinker
1 Yawgmoth's Will
1 Enlightened Tutor
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Diamond
1 Black Lotus
1 Mana Crypt
// Lands
4 Tropical Island
4 Flooded Strand
4 Forbidden Orchard
2 Island
4 Underground Sea
1 Thundra

Like the last verson this too is very raw.

One thing this enables is something like Orchard-lotus-oath-time walk, then collos with breath berserk strike!
