2  Archives / Tournament Announcement Forum / ICON Springfield, IL - October 10th (Vintage and Legacy) on: September 09, 2009, 03:13:15 pm
Despite our poor turnout last year, we're giving ICon another go this year.

When: Saturday, October 10
Time: 10am start time (as in pairings posted) for the 1.5, T1 to start when the 1.5 is finished.
Place: Lincoln Land Community College, 5250 Shepherd Road, Springfield IL 62794
Cost: $10 gets you in the door, no seperate event costs (that's 2 events for $10, call it a magic stimulus package)

Details:
The type 1 will be 10 proxies, and will be unsanctioned. The 1.5 is a sanctioned event.

The schedule of events is as follows:
1.5 registration starts at 9am, with first round pairings going up at 10am. The T1 will start immediately following the 1.5.

Prizes:
Prizes will be based on attendance, but here is the prize pool that we will be pulling from (the more people, the more of this stuff we make into prizes)
4 RV Underground Sea
3 RV Plateau
1 UL Plateau
3 RV Badlands
4 Force of Will
2 RV Volcanic Island

As you can see, a pretty nice pool of stuff potentially up for grabs if we get people.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me here, or message me on IRC (Arakkis on efnet).

Didnt even know this was going on.

Hence why we're gonna try to do better next year.

Vroman and Ogre knew of it as far as I was told, but there was a local tournament to them that dealt with like a case of product (although I don't know what format) the same weekend
8  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / [Results] ICON Springfield, IL - October 11th (Vintage and Legacy) on: October 13, 2008, 03:37:08 pm
Despite the drawbacks of only getting a small crowd due to bad overall planning of the convention (not necessarily the events), we still had more people than expected.

1.5 had 10 people, with prizes ending up being a set of Scrublands for first, and 2 FoWs for 2nd.
1st place- Brandon Adams (emidln) who epicly dropped a game to really bad u/w walls- Doomsday combo
2nd place- Peter Smutko packing 4 color threshold/fish/stuff (deck name was "What the f- is the stack"

t1 had a slightly better 12 people, with prizes ended up being 1st place chinese strategic planning, 2nd place being a pack of ITL Legends
1st place- Brandon Adams (emidln) who valiantly lost to himself several games before managing to win out on 4% tiebreaks
2nd place- Collin Mustain, who thinks emidln is his idol and plays combo slow and terrible (who draws with combo?)

Overall we had some great people show up to play, although once again the planning was off.  We made fun of LARPers who were across the room all day/night.  I'd say it was a "win" overall.

W do have next years dates for ICon, and we're aiming to put up a piece of power to bring people in to the central IL area to duke it out for it.  Will get prizes and dates up ASAP.

Sorry for the bit bilated notice, but since some things are still being locked down (such as prize support) I figured I'd at least get the date up on the boards.

Event: ICon
Date: October 11th
City: Springfield, IL
Location: Lincoln Land Community College
             5250 Shepherd Road
             Springfield, IL 62794
Relevent Event Info:
-T1.5 starts at NOON, signups start at 11. (This event is Sanctioned)
-T1 starts at 4:30pm (or whenever the 1.5 ends). (This event is 10 proxy and UNSANCTIONED)
Price: Price to get in to the convention is $10 for the day, all events are free once you are in the con.

There WILL be prize support, although at the moment the guy providing it and myself are still getting items.

13  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / ICon (8/11/07) Results on: August 13, 2007, 12:05:09 am
So we had amazing prize support, and got decent crowds considering the short notice that the Con Organizer gave me.

And you know, despite the fact that we started an hour late because there is only so much I can do when I ask for things and they turn out weird- but whatever, we had some good events.

Type 1: (20 people)

Jaker and Vroman split the grand prize
Jacob Riehm took 3rd
Tony Lozzi took 4th

Type 1.5: (18 people)
Blaine Christiansen and Brandon Adams (emidln) split
Vroman and Jacob Riehm got 3rd/4th

Decklists to be posted shortly.

Props go out to the con organizer- for giving out the full prize despite the number of people who showed up.
Props also to the players- who were well behaved and helpful- instead of giving out crap for things being a bit slow right off the bat.

indeed- props to Becker, as the tournament was prompt and in the midwest (not a bad drive at all).

despite my poor showing (1-2-1) I had fun, and got to see some people who as of late I haven't seen as much
17  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Springfield Icon 2-for-1 Tournament report, 1st x2 on: September 14, 2006, 09:24:58 pm
Yeah, I run the tournaments at ICon and I was pretty pissed about the schedule screwup...

As for the delays, I'm sorry about that, but I seem to recall having waited for a few people (no finger pointing, but I was going for # of players over promptness in hopes more people would participate) to put their decks together in both the Legacy and Vintage tournaments, we still got out of there at a decent time anyhow.

We were down a few people for the weekend, but the turnout wasn't horrible... I'd like it to be larger next year if people have some suggestions.

Myself and some others would go, but someone decided to conveniently schedule this the day of Regionals- good job to that person.

It's a shame you probably won't reschedule-Although if you do, let me know.
20  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: [Report] Team Ogre vs Springfield (ICON) 9-10-05 on: September 13, 2005, 11:07:50 pm
Jacob- this ICon has no relation to the one on the island that I'm aware of- it's just what the convention organizer decided to call a convention in Illinois.

Overall, once again I'd like to thank Vroman, Ogre, and company for coming to my 1st hosted t1 tournament, the reviews I've seen so far seem to indicate that another one would be acceptible-prize support just needs upping.

Hey,

I ran the tournament (I'm Jeremy), and I'll type up the decklists this week and try to have them up ASAP...  Typing up these T1 decklists is a lot harder than 1.5 lists- something about a lot of one ofs.

Overall, it was a great weekend though- We'll (the local crew) look into getting another event running sometime this coming Spring if we can.
22  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / 2005 Vintage World Championships Finals- Roland Vs Andy on: August 21, 2005, 08:28:19 pm
I was sitting next to the match watching and writing down the play by play, and after saying I had it, it was suggested that I post it to the forums for all to read.

Vintage World Champs Finals: Brassman Vs. Roland Chang (The Epic Meandeck Vs. Shortbus Match... kinda)

Game 1-

T1: Brassman wins something for once (the roll) and leads off turn 1 with a Mox Jet into Duress- Revealing a handful of broken stuff on Roland's side.  Settling on killing Balance, Brass plays a Mox Emerald and Flooded Strand before passing the turn.  On his turn, Roland also leads off with a Mox Jet, but adds in a Mox Sapphire, a Sol Ring, and a Mishra’s Workshop.

T2: BM lays a Lotus Petal and passes.  Being much more entertaining for the crowd, Roland drops a Strip Mine, casts Thirst for Knowledge (dropping Tangle Wire into the yard), plays another Tangle Wire, and finishes off with a Sphere of Resistance.

T3: Brassman gets overly lazy—or just nothing exciting when he draws a card—and passes the turn.  On his turn, Roland steals a page of non-exciting and plays a Wasteland—trying to waste the Flooded Strand which then transforms into an Island.

T4: Another exciting episode of Draw-Go occurs on the Brass side.  Mr. Chang then drops a City of Brass, Crucible of Worlds (which is Force of Willed by Brassman—pitching Mana Drain)

T5: Odd draws anyone?  Andy once again rips his one off the top, and then hands the turn back.  Roland drops another Mishra’s Workshop, Strip Mines Brassy’s Island, and then hardcasts a Sundering Titan.  Once Brass is done with his Brainstorming, the turn goes to him.

T6: Brassman must have syndication rights now, as he goes for the threesome with his savage Draw-Go show.  Roland shows his dislike for this channel by smashing Sundering Titan into BM’s face, then dropping a Smokestack (which Brassman forced pitching Thirst for Knowledge).

T7: BM once again has fun drawing cards, as in one, and then passes the turn.  Our local censor Mr. Chang then swings with titan again, and drops a Tangle Wire—causing Brassman to enter the scoop phase.

Game 2:

T1:  Andy chooses to lead off, and does so with an Island and a Mox Pearl.  Roland goes broken and drops Mox Sapphire, Black Lotus, Barbarian Ring, sacrifices the lotus, and then drops Smokestack—shortly followed by Goblin Welder.

T2:  Brassy decides to drop Flooded Strand (which is then cracked for a Volcanic Island), and then Rack and Ruins the Smokestack and Mox Sapphire.  Being smacked like that, Roland simply draws a card, lays beats, and passes back the turn.

T3: BM Merchant Scrolls—or tries to at least as Roland Red Elemental Blasts it.  Not being deterred, Andy then Brainstorms and drops another Volcanic Island.  On his turn, Roland drops a City of Brass, and lays the welder beats.

T4: Brassman seems to be up to his old tricks again, as he plays an Underground Sea and then says go.  Roland decides that he still hates Brassman’s show, and so he drops a Mishra’s Workshop and attempts to play a Crucible of Worlds—drawing out a hardcast Force of Will from Andy before he laid another Goblin Welder onto the field and laying welderbeats.

T5: Brassman doesn’t take Mr. Chang’s criticism and so he keeps the show going—drawing before he passes the turn.  Roland simply drops a Sol Ring onto the field and lays some welderbeats, then welds Sol Ring out for Smokestack.

T6: Andy drops a Mana Crypt and a Sacred Ground onto the field—laughing in the face of Strip Mine and Wasteland.  Roland shrugs and then drops Gemstone Mine, Choke (which brings out another hard cast Force of Will), and beats with a welder.

T7: Brassy draws and says go after being smacked around by his Mana Crypt.  Roland lays wasteland onto the field, and then lays double the welderbeats.

T8: BM leads off with a Brainstorm after getting smacked again by his Mana Crypt, then Recoups Merchant Scroll in order to grab a Gifts Ungiven.  Roland lays a single welderbeats and passes.

T9: Andy takes Crypt damage to the dome again, and then a Barbarian Ring finishes him off in short order.

24  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: 5/3 Sword of the Ages (5/3 Sota) on: April 25, 2005, 05:21:58 pm
Mmmm, well- I do have to credit you on making a deck that uses a card that isn't seen overly often...   But doesn't this deck just kinda lose to stifle?

Like, if you get the sword out, and on your turn you attack and then remove all your critters, if they stifle the sword's ability, you just kinda lose- as all of your threats dissapeared when you activated sword...
25  Eternal Formats / Creative / Orb of Dreams on: January 23, 2005, 10:39:38 pm
Personally, I think that welder players with skill will be able to make this a usable card- turn 1 ruby/petal, workshop, welder, orb could be rather violent...

Once the dual welders are out, welding this and something useful back and forth could really wreck your opponet badly...

I think that ATM, this card is along the lines of what trinisphere was- where people didn't know what the hell to do with it...  But I think that in the next several months, something will hit and people will be calling for it to be solved- much like they do with trinisphere now.
