Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Gifts at Rochester - a unique approach

There is only 1 Merchant Scroll main, not two. What winnie cited in favor of Vampiric is couterbalanced by what I mentioned as advantages in favor of Mystical and Merchant Scroll. However, as I also said, I don't know the answer to what's better at this time. I tried it without Vampiric and I didn't miss it, although for all I know that might change in the future. The question is more complex that just which of the three tutors to select for the two slots. What also needs addressing are things like, is it better to run Vamp than Gifts #3, or Needle #3, or the 25th mana source, etc.
I really agree with the last sentence. BTW, I miss vampiric tutor when I don't play it. So currently I'm playing a 61 cards deck. Vampiric IS this 61th card. winnie.

With the Oath plan in the sideboard, I think I would prefer Vampiric tutor over Merchant Scroll. I know that it's CD, but the fact that Vampiric can find Oath & Orchard gives it an edge. And you can easily support it with your swamp maindeck. I you want to keep Merchant Scroll, you could replace mystical with vampiric.
What is your opinion ?

Oh and good job !

Hi,
you only run one Gift. Is it enough ? This card is really savage. I would like to run at least two of them. What do you think about lotus petal in this deck ? It ease the tendrill kill, it's a first turn 2 U open for drain... Is imperial seal so good main ? You could put it in the side, for one more gift or recoup main.
thx for this great list,
winnie.

I think stifle and damping matrix are a bit different :
you can't stifle mana abilities but you can stifle the draw abilities because it goes on the stack.
So, with damping matrix you can draw the card of an egg, but with stifle you can't.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
winnie. This kind of stuff belongs in the rules forum. Plus, you're wrong. The card draw does not go on the stack. There is nothing that Stifle can target. -Jacob

First, nice report.
now, did you try Sensei's Divining Top in the deck :
[1]: Look at the top three cards of your library, then put them back in any order. [Tap]: Draw a card, then put Sensei's Divining Top on top of its owner's library.
I think it could be brainstorm 5-6, and it can be fetched with mage.

Everyone is fearing ophidian and welder. Why don't you try damping matrix ? It was a good tech in keeper.
And if you really fear dragon and welder (again) you have Ground Seal.

I'm testing this deck currently, and I think we can play duplicant MD in the place of Fire/Ice. Masticore can be an idea too.
what do you think ?
And I found Memory Jar amazing in this deck. It fetch all your tools in your graveyard and you can even kill with it.

Nice report, Do you think Grow (Gat and others) will do a come-back ? What are the chance of GAT against TOG ? Is Damping Matrix so effective in the current metagame to be in the maindeck of Keeper ? I love this card, and play it maindeck but what is your opinion ? winnie (I'm french so excuse my bad english )
