1  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Lets discuss Bomberman today on: July 18, 2008, 10:06:36 am
I tried to build a non-standard UWr Bomberman list.
Before i get into explaining my choices, here the decklist:

4 Fetch
2 Island
3 Tundra
3 Volcanic
1 StripMine
1 Tolarian Academy

5 Mox
1 SolRing
1 MCrypt
1 Lotus

2 Salvagers
3 Trinket
3 Augury Adept

4 FoW
3 Drain
2 ReB

1 Mystical
1 Merchant
1 Fact or Fiction
3 Fire/Ice
1 Pyrite Spellbomb
1 Aether Spellbomb
1 Tormod's Crypt
1 E.E.
1 Sensei's DT
1 Tinker
1 DSC
3 Thirst for Knowledge
1 Chain of Vapor
1 Ancestral
1 Brainstorm
1 Ponder
1 TWalk

59+1 card i forgot which it is (i don't have the deck with me now)

The sideboard goes:
3 ChaliceotV
2 Pithing Needle
2 Rack'n Ruin
2 Hurkyl's Recall
3 Jotun Grunt
3 Honor the Fallen

MD:
Strip Mine, really useful vs LoA or other sources as Academy or WS, of course if seen early.
Augury Adept, I prefer those to MCensors because yes, they don't have flash, flying or deny a fetchland or a tutor, but they're golden vs aggro-control and sometimes if you flip the right card, vs combo.
FireIce, great removal and tempo gainer vs almost all decks (tapping lands vs combo to gain tempo) synergic with Augure
ReB, the only MU i regret this is Ichorid and Shop, but here they of course side out, but when facing a blue deck they're GOLD; i prefer them to misD cause misD serve the same purpose (win counterwars) but ReB at the cost of R don't put you in card disadvantage and it's a removal for Tyrant and for blue critters (also they do some random win vs ReB-Painter)

SB:
3 CotV vs combo, 1 is really not enough, i want to set it as soon as possible at 0 and 1, and protect them from their bouncers @ 2 and 3.
3 Honor the fallen vs Ichorid, Dragon (if any)
3 Jotun Grunt great vs Tarmogoyf based decks, they recycle resources, stops tarmo from growing and also good vs Shop (1W - 4/4!) (i usually side cotvs and those vs combo)
2 Pithing, all purpose stopper, from fetches to welders to triskelions to wastelands and so on.
2 Hurkyl and 2 RnR vs Shop.

This is a non standard list, i know, but i invite you to give it a test ride and lemme know  Very Happy
I think it could perform well.
What do you think bout it?
2  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Cerebral Assassin...........For the new metagame on: June 14, 2008, 04:14:09 am
Chrisn, a thing that i notice in your list is that you don't draw at all.
You don't sport the full squee package to draw with bazaar, nor you play Deep Analysis OR Careful Study OR TFK's.
This makes you resilient only on your hopening hand, and i don't think that's a good choice for a deck like CA...
I also see tinker lacking,  i prefer it to an entomb.
Do you remember our endless mirror on mws? Very Happy
3  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Cerebral Assassin...........For the new metagame on: June 13, 2008, 03:51:15 pm
I also tried to build a good CA deck, i personally think that the best "tools" in a CA deck are
3+ titans
1 platz

1 POSSESSED PORTAL, that's a fairly BROKEN card, but adding that would change a little your list, cause we must add
3+ squee
+1/2 intuitons
because you must have access SOON to all the stuff you need.

For draw i'd use
2 Careful study
3 TfK
2 Deep Analysis
1 Ancestral of course Razz

And i'd cut 2 necromancys and run only 4 animate dead, with welder's i always think that's enough.
And i can't figure out why you don't use Balance, in a deck like that it's superior, it happens that you remain with low cards in hand and use it to nuke opponent's hand, or lands, or creatures...
I also use, as tools, 1 life from the loam and 1 darkblast. (VS artifact lftl is great and so is darkblast vs welders and confidants)

4  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: The Future of Blue: Bridging the Brainstorm Gap on: June 11, 2008, 07:28:05 am
Good read  Very Happy

I'm also seriously considering switching again to dr.teeth.
I'm currently playing also 1 Mind Twist MD and 1 wish.
I don't think green is worth splashing for berserk, we always have sufficient supplies to give to atog for flinging..
the only thing where i see green is vs artifact, but i have to test.
Zeus online, could you post your manabase?
Thanks.
5  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Improvement] Workshop Slavery on: June 03, 2008, 08:46:18 am
Now, i think we have to think a little about new restrictions in terms of the deck and the decks this will face.

First of all, 4 ponder's gone.
The first perfect fit i think is Sensei's Top.
But, how we fit it in?
1 Ponder
3 Sensei
or
1 Ponder
1 Brainstorm
2 Sensei?

I think sensei's better, with welder it does some cool tricks and now that the metagame will slow a little we can afford play the sensei.
Second thing, the most broken play remains the CotV at 2, but now it has less targets (-3 merchants and flash's), but that's still a really average play. It still stops the mono-merchant, lol, drains, painters, oath, spheres, basically all of the fish's stuff (meddling, jotun, bob), tarmo, and i think some impulses 'cause someone will start again to play them in a heavy control shell.
The deck, per se, has not lost anything.
I'll start again testing with 3 sensei's top and update.
May it be that this new B/R helped us?

Hi harlequin, i'm glad that you both made results with slaver right now.
it may be a good idea to put shusher, the only thing that stops me is that i am really afraid to think of it like a play that basically on its own does nearly nothing; more importantly now that you suggest (as i see in your list) that you run it in 3x...
But, but, it may be a real good deal, i get that.

If you can do a mini-report of the tourney i'll be glad to hear how the deck performed vs some decks!
Thanks a lot!
(Lemnear, i'll answer more in deep later, now i have to go)
7  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Improvement] Workshop Slavery on: May 26, 2008, 10:47:16 am
I faced 1 Control Slavery (lost because of a 1st turn triskelavus in g3), 1 T1Tshell storm (so with AK, drains, and so on, with tendril/etw - draw cause we went to additional turns and i couldnt find a beater to take him down even if i was in welderslaver), 1 Red Shop Aggro (win, panoptic+tinker/demonic the first and slavering him with his own triskelion damaging him the 2nd), 1 TDS with Negators (that was the only one i used balance because she dropped a 1st turn negator fow backupped and i had the panoptic/balance - in fact, i wrote 1 time, not 2 - the "they saved me 2 matches were because i was speaking generally of balance+tutors), 1 TPS (lost because didn't see any chalices even after mulligans in g1, 1 game won thanks to demonic, 3rd game a desire for 6 revealing spells but he had tendrils in hand so gg).

I'm not saying "i made for me a decent result so this is an house", i only said that the deck can perform well (and the RedShop and TPS player are good players, the others dunno, they aren't n00b for sure) and if we can tune it it can do some good stuff IMHO.

Magus won me 2 games (1 vs TDS, 1 vs TPS) because they didn't expect it to come in from sideboard.
I imagine youre telling 3sphere, pentavus, triskelion and mirror are wasted slots because you run 1 triskelavus and 3 slots are, what, duresses?  Very Happy
I really don't know WHAT would you put in instead of those. The trini is a last-choice because in the tournament i ran 1 Fact orFiction instead of 3sphere.

EDIT: I'm not a top player at all, i feel that i'm always a n00b, so i think i did lots of play mistakes, that's obvious, that's also why i test and ask for suggestions.

PS It HAS slaver, and it is the main win condition. Do you always put in 4 slavers in a deck to call it slaver?
Another thing about your drainless, wsless list.
How do you have the mana to always activate slaver?
Do you always plan to have 3 lands and 1 mox or 2 land and 3 mox or such?
If you ALWAYS see 2+ moxen every time you fan your opening hand, that's good. It doesn't happen too much with me.

Cheers

Update  Very Happy
Yesterday i did a tournament here in italy (20-22 people) and did 2-2-1. Not bad, counting that if i did 3-1-1 i was in top8 (and i did an error choosing to keep an horrible hand in the last match), and counting that i nearly never tested for real the deck.

First of all, my list: (Lemnear, here you go! PENTA Slavery!! lol)

4 City of Brass
4 Mishra's Workshop
4 Volcanic Island
1 Flooded Strand
1 Ancient Tomb
1 Tolarian Academy

5 Mox
1 Lotus
1 Crypt
1 Vault
3 Gilded Lotus

4 Ponder
4 Thirst for Knowledge
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Gifts Ungiven

4 Chalice of the Void
1 Trinisphere
4 Force of Will

1 Balance
1 Wheel of Fortune
1 Tinker
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor

1 Panoptic Mirror
1 Triskelion
1 Pentavus
1 Sundering Titan
1 Mindslaver

4 Goblin Welder
1 Memory Jar

Sideboard:

3 Magus of the Moon
3 Electrostatic Bolt
3 Tormod's Crypt
4 Red Elemental Blast
2 Razormane Masticore

Some cards:
-Pentalands, balance and tutors: they're far too broken. They saved me 2 matches otherwise i would have lost them. Not counting that imprinting Balance or a Tutor on panoptic mirror is broken.
-Panoptic mirror: the most broken play of the day. Played it 3 times, 1 imprinting tinker vs red shop, 1 imprinting balance vs controlSuicide, and 1 imprinting demonic vs control. I cut Memnarch for it and i think i will keep using this.
-Ponders: the deck doesn't have the number of resshufle effects needed to support Brainstorm. I went for ponder so i can fix better the mana situation and can resshuffle if needed. Really good, don't think i'll return to brainstorm.
Sideboard: the electrostatic are there to cut all the utility critters (bob, meddling, etc) and exploding nearly all the artifact things (Ravager, Painter's, Metalworker, Triskelion, Juggernaut, Karn and so on if i forgot any); imho they are really good.

So, i think (now that i took it in a tournament) that the deck can do really impressive things. Maybe it has to be refined, but it's great and funny.
[end of Update  Very Happy]
9  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Improvement] Workshop Slavery on: May 17, 2008, 06:54:19 pm
@ryc3: adding spheres effects would cut almost totally the most, MOST broken play this deck can provide: chalice at two.
Just because of this i think it would not be good to add them; remember, we're not an artifact/stax type of deck. We just slow down the game with chalices and fows the first turns, meanwhile we set our mana and explode some turns later.
That trinisphere there is much a "jolly" slot; when you have it, that's good; maybe, if fow backup, it can do most of the game for you, expecially vs some decks. Otherwise, in later turns, that's an artifact pitchable to Thirst, or an artifact good for welder switching.
We don't aim to provide a full lock as artifacts deck do, we have our own strategy, our own game to follow to win, we have our broken plays and our weaknesses, and, i assure you, we don't need spheres  Smile
I.E. assuming we are vs STAX, we do chalice2, he has some good dead stuff in hand he kept. He can do juggernaut, and we have fows and welders. (Just to let you see where chalice @ 2 is really broken talking of spheres  Very Happy - but think of it vs merchant.dec, painter.dec, drain.dec, flash and so on..)

10  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Improvement] Workshop Slavery on: May 16, 2008, 03:06:51 am
The idea to try rainbow lands to try 3-color ws slavery is thrilling me  Very Happy
I'll try to build a thing like that really early!
PS Can you pm me your list of "not so control" slavery? I'm really curious!!  Smile
Of course if we talk about a ws-less version the gilded lotus is the FIRST card that have to be cut.
Yep, i tried triskelavus ultimately and it's an house  Very Happy it gives you a free slot and it has the same effectiveness of trisky+pentavus, i tested that mana isn't a problem.
The fact that i play a low count of blue spell is right, but i feel favorable that it's right for now to continue playing FoW..at least, until a new idea for disrupting comes  Very Happy
I say that's just the "minimum" number of blue cards. And happened just 1 or 2 times that i had a fow without blue card in hand...
Some news: after some testing with another TMD member (Nico) we talked about the inclusion of a 2-copy of trinket mage; that's because it came to mind that the major spell shopslavery has is chalice; with virtually 6 chalices we have another opportunity to get that powerful spell online as soon as possible.
We also thought about using at it maximum extent the manapower this deck has, thinking to include some overcosted as 1-ofs really using the Gilded Lotus mana.
Some names came to mind: Teferi, or Magus of the future...
Also speaking of what could take place of Fows we thought about some cards, as In the eye of chaos (discarded because of: 1-it shuts down our drawing engine; 2- because it's not so synergic with opponents turn stealed with slavers) and Nether Void (that would be some good, the only thing that freightens me is the 4 mana cost -but overall it would be good-)

Some suggestions about this line of thinking?  Very Happy

11  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Improvement] Workshop Slavery on: May 14, 2008, 02:26:33 pm
@lemnear; hi, thanks for posting.
The deck you talk about with merchants is Control Slavery and in my opinion, is pretty subpar running in a control core 4welder 1 slaver and say, 1 titan; because you can win better and sleeker with 3 confidant, 1 recoup and 1  tendril maindeck (assuming youre playing yawg/gifts MD and not the tendril you save up 1 slot) in a shell like that. Because you can go draw insanely with confidant, tutor up gifts for ie lotus, yawg, recoup, walk and can win on the spot, instead to go for welder/slaver recursion. Ofcourse, that's just my opinion Very Happy

Taken off this little OT, let's continue.
I'm preferring Reef over other fetches (even if im planning to go -1 reef +1 fetch) because of the titan recursion. It can be really lethal against control (before a chalice@2, that's obvious) and can win you games even with a single wasteEffect without recursing. By playing reefs you don't lose your lands. Assuming an example: land, mox mox tinker fow and blue card. Yes that seems all but a workshop deck but it happens. If the land is a fetch/volcanic, in early game you are 100% losing that land, that can be useful. If that land were a shivan reef, you only lost 1 life to keep a colored land. I think that's a good bargain Smile

Gilded Lotus/Coalition Relic: well didn't knew that card, thanks, but i don't think it fits well as gilded the managiver in ws.slavery. That's because, you know that, if we start always in example, ws mox mox or ws crypt and have a TFK in hand (really far more broken that starting with a welder, speaking of 4x) i really prefer playing the gilded. That's because it's INSANE with welder to develop mana without losing permanents (as black lotus does) and it gives MORE fast mana. Not counting it gives COLORED mana NOW, and 3 is the perfect number in this deck as you may have noticed. starting ws coalition relic brainstorm is far less appetizing that doing a gilded lotus-tfk/tinker/wheel and so on.
Hope you get the point im explaining.
That's the contrary of coalition relic that gives yes mana but more slowly compared to gilded lotus. Not counting, repeat, that if you weld in coalition relic you have 1 mana now. If you weld in gilded lotus it gives you 3 mana. (Thats not an uncommon play to discard to thirst a gilded to weld it back, thats an huge advantage in terms of mana)

Yes i thought of triskelavus, and my really only thing i'm afraid of is that you have to pay mana to deal damage. In a case when you have to face a meddling for example (or put a confidant or everything else) you have 2 ws in play and no other mana sources, if you cast triskelion now you have probably put yourself in advantage killing the creature; if you play triskelavus (in the same mana situation) you'll have to wait a turn, maybe that turn the opponent uses to chain your triskvus and have a new counter backup to counter it again. It's about tempo.
But, if we see that that mana isn't a problem, well, triskelavus may really be the right right choice Very Happy

For the Memnarch, i think it's the best beater/tool that WorkshopSlavery can have. We produce tons and tons of mana. Of course if you think of it "like it is" you find it slow and weak. But it must be contextualized.
You do a chalice@2 (the most common in here and stops really a lot), then setup a welder with slaver for, say, 2 or 3 slaved turns. In those turns if you manage to get a Memnarch in play, you KNOW that even when your slaverturns are over (because you ran out of weldable artifacts -ie moxen) in those 2-3 turns slaved you can NOT ONLY steal "an ancestral recall", but you can play a lotus and steal it, steal some interesting stuff the opponent has (iE it happened to me, had memnarch in play, opponent had tinker in hand, i slaved his turn, took his platinum and won right away - yes i could have tinkered for nothing but that's an out i'd always like to have). Memnarch in this deck does not play the "platz/titan" role, when whenever it enters play, it does something useful. It has to be used in the right way Very Happy
That's obvious that vs long i'm not going to play memnarch, but that's up to your skill Very Happy

Trinisphere is a slot that thrilled me alot.
It's really insane within the first or second turn, but then it's fairly dead. The fact is that if i have an early protected tinker, id always like to get trini, because it gives lots of problems in early game. If you get a first turn titan, you do nothing, opponent can go land mox merchant->chain and screw you. Same with plats. I always tinker for Trini or Gilded lotus in early game, depending on what i have to do (and if i'll be locked by my self trini lol - so i see my mana situation).
Splashing black can be really good in this deck BUT - yes there is a but lol - i think it will only get the whole functionality down. I have 12 turn1 plays (welder, brainstorm, chalice) i don't think i would prefer going duress when i can drop a chaliceAt2.
The really only things i regret are iseal/vampiric/yawgmoths'will, but i don't think destabilizing manabase more than it's now can reward in terms of play choices.

I know i have to run at least 1 bounce maindeck, and probably pentavus is the card i'll cut.

PS: Yep, theire always in my playlist Razz

@Thicketman: yes it's really fun deck, glad you liked it ^^
12  Eternal Formats / Creative / [Improvement] Workshop Slavery on: May 14, 2008, 04:55:00 am
Hi all.
I'd like to talk about a deck i really liked time ago and i think now it can perform well in this meta of gush, drain, flash and stax.
I'm talking about workshop slavery.
It's an aggressive ws-based deck with 8 protections (4 of them do 1xX) that aims to go nuts with welder recursion of MindSlaver.
The list i play now its:

_MANA_
2 Polluted Delta
3 Volcanic Island
4 Shivan Reef
4 Workshop
1 Island
1 Tolarian Academy
5 Mox
1 Lotus
3 Gilded Lotus
1 ManaVault
1 SolRing
1 ManaCrypt

_Creatures_

4 Welder
1 Triskelion
1 Pentavus
1 Memnarch
1 Sundering Titan

_Artifacts_
1 Trinisphere
4 Chalice of the Void
1 MindSlaver
1 Memory Jar

_OtherSpells_
4 Thirst for Knowledge
4 Brainstorm
4 Force of Will
1 Tinker
1 Time Walk
1 TimeTwister
1 Wheel of Fortune
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Fact or Fiction/Gifts Ungiven

SIDEBOARD:
3 Shattering Spree
2 Razormane Masticore
2 Jester's Cap
3 Magus of the Moon
3 Red Elemental Blast
2 Tormod's Crypt

The first thing that comes to eye is that we can set ALWAYS chalice at 2 without losing ANYTHING (the only CC2 spell is timewalk).
That means in this way we shut off drains, painters servant, flash, spheres, merchants, demonic, and so on.
Meanwhile we can lay billions of mana thanks to gilded lotuses and do crazy things with memnarch, sundering etc..with welder.
Of course, if needed and if we have mana and artifactstuff in hand, we can drop an early chalice@1 and then put it at 2, in that case we can't rely anymore on welder but if we have in hand sundering or memnarch and have lots of mana (as the deck is designed to develop) we can play without welder.

Then we have FoWs, that can help us protect our menaces (primarly chalice and welder) or do good things with the surprise-effect:
for example, we start, have workshop, mox, chalice, fow and blue card and 2 other cards.
We go mox-ws-chalice@2 and pass.
Then the opponent can go mystical/darkritual/ancestral etc and we can force it; that's a psychological advantage when the opponent doesnt know we play slaver and thinks we play for example stax.

The only card that doesn't satisfy me too much is the pentavus, i think it's a win more in this deck, but it can be useful vs critters (remembering we don't play intuition or other to tutor up triskelion)...

The sideboard has a little gravehate (tormods), tons of combohate (magus, reb, jesters), a little critters/nullrod hate (masticore) and some artifact hate (shattering).

What do you say about it, i'm sure it can be improved, but its a really versatile deck and, imho, it's REALLY, REALLY fun to play.
Let's discuss  Very Happy
13  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Deck Discussion] Pitch Long - its been left behind? on: May 07, 2008, 03:13:55 pm
Hi all again, i didn't post for a long ( Very Happy ) time, but now i'm back here to discuss with you about a deck i'm currently playing.
As you probably argued from the topic title, that deck is Pitch Long.

I really wonder WHY no one posted a really serious recent discussion about this - i read the old topic about it but it's really not updated.

For you, is it outdated? It's been outraced by other decks? It's weak? It's too difficult to manage for playing it in tournaments?
Really, i don't get the point.
This is one of the bomb-o-decks in the format, fun to play, difficult to master; for me, it's one of the best decks in vintage right now.
It seems that all of you combo-players forgot about it when gush has been unrestricted - all playing gushstorm, tts, and so on...
do you really think they're so MUCH better than long?
I read lots of reports, no one is taking this anymore in tourneys and really don't get why.

So i'd like to start a NEW discussion about Pitch Long here, to know your opinions, maybe expand it, i'd really like to hear the opinion of all the players who took it in play, and all the great open-minded players TMD has who still like it and maybe, for a reason or two, don't play it.

By the way, here's the list i'm playing right now:

1 Island
1 Swamp
2 USea
4 PollutedD
1 Badlands
1 B/R Fetch
1 Tolarian
5 Mox
1 Lotus
1 SolR
1 MCrypt
1 MVault
1 LPetal
4 DRituals
2 CabalRits

3 Street Wraith

4 Brainstorm
1 Ancestral
3 GrimT
1 DemonicT
1 VampiricT
1 MysticalT
1 TimeWalk

1 Chain
1 Hurkyl

4 FoW
2 MisD

1 Necro
1 Bargain
1 Desire
1 Tinker
1 Jar
1 Wheel of Fortune
1 Twister
1 YWill

2 Tendrils

SIDE:
3 SSG
2 Hurkyls
4 Duress
2 DefGrid
2 Tormod's
1 DColossus
1 Chain of Vapor

Hope this topic will capture some of those who didn't talk about it only because they didn't know where to  Very Happy
Really, IMO PitchLong is a really neat deck, capable of doing miracles  Surprised

Hope you think this too and join this topic!

14  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Budget Combo Decks on: February 26, 2008, 04:15:32 pm
I wouldn't go with Belcher, IMHO.
If he want to start playing T1 he would buy useless cards for every other deck he might want to play, or try. Not counting that belcher can be stopped easily by an easy lock or a good-aimed FoW.
With BobTPS he'll have some useful t1 cards like underground sea, duress, Force of Will, brainstorm, dark confidant, fetches and tutors that can be used in almost every other archtype.
Then, if his meta remains proxy, he could buy in a future some grim tutors and make a grim/pitch/street/seize Long.
All, obv, is IMHO  Very Happy

EDIT: i've read again the post, he said he play mainly control or aggro control, so he could have already the FoW, Brainstorm, Duress, USea, and Confidant...so it's really cheap to make a TPS then.
15  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Budget Combo Decks on: February 26, 2008, 03:49:42 pm
If you can go proxy, as you said, i'd suggest a BobTPS.
With proxies it's fairly cheap, it's funny to play and really solid.
Just a thing, like any other combo-storm deck, you have to learn to play it.
16  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Can We Look Again to Parfait? on: November 22, 2005, 03:24:13 pm
Here is my fresh build:

12 Plains
3 Wasteland *NEW!*
1 Strip Mine *NEW!*
1 Kor Haven
1 Maze of Ith

4 Argivian Find

2 Seal of Cleansing
2 Abolish *NEW!*
1 Aura of Silence

2 Mobilization/Sacred Mesa

2 Isochron Scepter *NEW!*

4 Land Tax
3 Tithe
3 Scroll Rack
2 Zuran Orb
1 Claws of Gix

4 Orim's Chant
4 Abeyance

3 Humility

1 Balance
4 Swords to Plowshares

1 Enlightened Tutor

3 Waste+1 Strip: This is REALLY useful. In case we start "slow" we can slow down opponent too, destroying his moxen and stripping his lands. I really WANT the Crucible, maybe it can enter in place of the Maze.

2 Abolish: I really NEED sometimes an instant removal, this is the best. Along with the 2 seals+aura it is good.

2 Isochrons: I tried 3,4. Too much. Then, i tried 2 of them. It did well. Really good; when the play is stalling an orim can backup an isochron with abeyance, orim or stp. good lock Wink
Obviously it mustn't be played so easy, it must be a FORCED CHOOSE.

For the rest the deck kept the same form; the only changes i would like to do are the
1) MonoCrucible;
-1 Maze of Ith
+1 Crucible

2) At least one more land; but i really don't know WHAT to subtract to the list.

What do you think about it?

17  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Can We Look Again to Parfait? on: November 21, 2005, 04:21:31 pm
i'm now only replying to Jacob Orlove, i'm in hurry.
That decklist, imho, isn't GOOD at all, to me, at least.

Ok, the RED splash is good; but i will take this strategy.
I'm thinking;
we have that GOOD card that's Humility.
Yow, we have red; ok
3 main blood moon are this good,
and
Slice and Dice is a really COOL card now; with 3 hum, 2 cycling slice and dice are really useful...don't you think too?

So the adds maybe:
+2/3 blood moon
+2 slice and dice
+2 mountains
+1 sol ring (at least this)

Ok.
Now returning to the decklist

3 charbelcher
what? THREE? I MEAN, 3 belcher? Really exaggerate, imho, 2 are enough, really.
scepter; i really don't like this card, makes us really weak to nullrod, and isn't this good when using it, i tried it.
1 claws; interesting. I can try one of this MD, with 2 zuran and 1 claws of gix.
2 helix: i mean, wtf? you really DON'T need those :tsk:
1 decree: 4 finishers? and with which mana does he think to use it?
i only see 2 argivian; with all of those r&r-calling artifacts, only 2? are we joking?
no seals? wow.
1 moat: also with humilty and decree, does aggro worry you so much?
No abeyance? And why, on the earth?
Imho, this deck isn't nor aggro, nor control, nor both. This leads no way.
It hasn't the parfait strategy nor the strategy of a classic "control" deck.

I'm very happy he did perform so well; but i don't think it is a good build, sorry.

Soon my new decklist, with red

Also, Isochron Scepter can combo nicely with all the cheap instants you already play.

Isochron? And why?
This deck have a defined strategy; we CAN'T waste our turn-2, or 3, for going with Isochron+AnyInstant.
Because we have to be speedy with our responses.
Wow! We go turn 2 isochron+orim (example). His turn, land and storm. Wow! WOOOW!
...
In that case we might have taken double orim or orim+any other card.
We can't afford that type of solution.
Secondly, this implies a change-of-strategy in the deck, making it more slow and less responsive; because our game plan isn't anymore to ANNOY THE OPPONENT, but PLAY THE ISOCHRON.
This is really foolish, imho.
19  Eternal Formats / Creative / Can We Look Again to Parfait? on: November 20, 2005, 03:30:00 am
Hi all.
Recently I have been toying with a really OLD Parfait decklist.
I mean, it's Parfait. It's really weird.

But I liked it! I tried to rebuild it a little...
It has strong-minded strategy, good removal and recursion. The only thing, i see, it's that it has a really SLOW winner.

But no more chatting, here i go with my CURRENT list:

MAINDECK:

Manabase -
12 Plains
4 Flooded Strand/Windswept Heath
1 Serra's Sanctum

ToolsLands -
1 Maze of Ith
1 Kor Haven
1 Library of Alexandria

Removal -
4 Swords to Plowshares
4 Seal of Cleansing
1 Aura of Silence
1 Balance

NoiseCards -
3 Humility

Recursion/Tutors -
4 Argivian Find
1 Enlightened Tutor

Thinning/Drawing Engine -
4 Land Tax
3 Scroll Rack
3 Tithe
2 Zuran Orb
1 Claws of Gix

Control -
4 Orim's Chant
4 Abeyance

Winner -
2 Mobilization

Let's go with explaining:
The manabase is made by 12 plains+4 fetchlands (good with scroll rack) and by a Serra's Sanctum. This is the card i'm thinking to change into something else, this because i REALLY used it only once, twice times. The library is no comment, the Kor and Maze are vs All-Decks-Play-TinkerPerColossus and Oath.
The removal cards are almost the same in any parfait deck: 4 stp (welders-colossus-akroma-anythingelse), 4 seal (vs. about everything, from nullrods to pithing to tanglewire to crucible to even moxen). Aura of silence is a really powerful card, it really goes crazy vs some decks like weldermud-stacker-etc...and even vs tps-like decks that are first being slowed down by orim/abeyance/etc... and then, if they don't counter aura, it's very difficult to go straight forward. Paying 2 for a mox isn't that good Smile . Without talking about Oath-like decks. Balance is really GOOD GOOD card, can play with 0 lands for 0 mana for the opponent Wink and can decimate opponent's creatures.
Humility i think is a really great insert in this deck. Played in the early stages of parfait, replaced alot of times with moats/wraths/circles and so on, now i play it again. It CAN stop every creature, and i say EVERY, so WHY don't play it, now that the oath-atog-colossus-thousandothercreatures are played?
Argivians are the classic recursion card, can take a broken seal, or a countered Enchant/Artifact.
Enlightened is no comment.
The engine is everytime the same, LT+ZO. But this time I added 3x Tithe (for thinning in EoT, and for reshuffling after a really great scroll rack (ES.:4-5 cards)) and a Claws of Gix. Yep, think of it like the third zuran. But this can take off the oath's spirits (but this isn't that important) and, mostly, if we can control the game, and take it to the long, we can use it with our Soldiers. Good, with zuran, in prevision of a storm Very Happy
Orim+Abeyance i think those too are no comments, aren't they?
Here we go with the winner. I tried Exalted, Belcher. Exalted isnt' that good (i tried it before putting in the humilities, obv Smile ), because we are better with the hum, great tool. Belcher NO. NOT BELCHER. it suffers nullrod, pithing, artifact hate. And we can take those with the ZO and SR, but NOT with the winner. Discarded.
Mesa. The mesa is a great card, but the thing that made me discard it is the cost of a pegasus each turn. Especially when just casted, i want to stay tranquil. (but a pegasus costs 2, vs the 3 of a soldier).
Now, the Mobilization; costs 3 mana, 3 for making a 1/1 token. Wowsers, it's really is a lot of mana. Yep, but i can w/o problems put it in middle(even early) game, without worrying about the cost of a pegasus, and use it when needed. Now i'm using it, i'm pretty happy.
Why, you'll ask me, don't you play any acceleration card? Sol Ring, Vault, etc...?
That's because we don't NEED them. Parfait has a good straight forward strategy; we have to do something in turn 1-2-3 than putting in accelerators.

The things i think i'm going to change are:
-1 Sanctum
+1 Plains

-2 Mobilization
+2 Mesa (but if i do that i have to count on going to late game to play it) - this is the choice i major think about.

The sideboard is this:
4 Serenity - Vs about all, from stacker to tps, from oath to FCG
4 Tormod - Wow, no comment
4 true believer - Storm incoming?
3 Abolish - Instant removal; often i'm thinking to take out 1 seal and another card to put 2x this in maindeck...

Here is the deck. I think it can do really something.  Surprised
LmK Wink

20  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Unpowered] Purple Trix Experiment on: June 03, 2005, 01:37:52 pm
you are right, but there are a couple of reasons i choose red upon the black...
first of all.
The maindeck is ONLY blue. I have to cut spaces for at least 4 duresses and 2 tutors+1yawg win. 7 slots.
In side i lose the "counterspellish" effect done by the REBs, cause i haven't ever the blue card for misD and if i havo some mana i can't counter if i have the wish.
But with the black i may put in sideb some cards like diabolic edict for oath, and some other little bullets against other decks.

Another point. The deck isn't proactive, with the duresses we get this approach; sure we are advantaged, but the idea of another maindecked colour isn't too good to me.

And, the maybe most important thing. We lose an anattackable manabase. Because if we duress, we have to take the dual land, and often we won't have the double blue for drain, thanks to wasteland!!!

The Trix UB you friend plays is ALL ANOTHER DECK...it wants to be EXPLOSIVE, PROACTIVE, I-WANT-THE-COMBO-NOW!

Purple trix is a combo deck that doesn't want to be forced to be an explosive combo. If we have to match against aggro, huh, then go straight to the combo. On the other hand, if we play against Control, etc...we must MUST MUST think about our choices, we have to know how to manage our resources: with the UB TRIX you play swamp duress, island, ritual a bit of acceleration and straght with Illusions. If he find how to counter the ritual, the illusion or anything else, it has not much resources to restart. We pack a lot of drawing, searching and protection. We are certain that, if we have prepared ourselves, nothing can stop the combo...
21  Eternal Formats / Creative / [Unpowered] Purple Trix Experiment on: June 03, 2005, 08:00:54 am
Hi all, i'm trying to build an unpowered version of Purple Trix...a.k.a. Monoblue w/ Red Splash Trix  Smile

Let's go with the main deck and the explainations:

Maindeck:

Manabase:

11 Island
4 Polluted Delta
4 Volcanic Island
//A pretty stable manabase. We don't suffer any wasteland, except of Crucible+Strip (who doesn't?  Wink). We have only 4 volcanics to get red mana, but there aren't problems cause of the fetchs.

Permission:

4 Force of Will
4 Mana Drain
2 Misdirection
//This is the classic. With the add of two Misdirections. Those spells are very powerful in a heavy-blue-based meta. They also misdirect any enchantement destruction...

Combo pieces:

4 Illusions of Grandeur
4 Donate
//If we call it Trix there must be a reason, huh? 4 of each cause of Fow pitchings and cause we can take them w/ intuition.

Draw & Search:
4 Accumulated Knowledge
3 Intuition
1 Deep Analysis
1 Mystical Tutor
2 Cunning Wish
4 Merchant Scroll
//There is another classic engine (Ak+Intu) with the Analysis, it gets pretty useful with medallions. Mystical is obvious, so are obvious the Cunnings. 4 Merchant scrolls becuse the 3/4 of the deck are made by blue instants, it looks like a demonic tutor...and often it costs U.

Acceleration:
1 Sol Ring
1 Mana Crypt
1 Lotus Petal
4 Sapphire Medallion
//We pack the mox-of-poor-ones and the classics ring+crypt+petal. The Medallions are one of the most important parts of this deck, they have our spells cost 1 less.

Sideboard
2 Misdirection
1 Mana Short
1 Fire/Ice
1 Psionic Blast
1 Hurkyll's Recall
2 Rushing River
4 Red Elemental Blast
3 Back To Basics
//This is the sideboard normalized to the cunning wishes. The only cards that cannot be taken are the BtB, very useful in a Artifact/Control metagame.
The REB are the only reason to the red splash, and we have also the fire/ice to kill any bastard 1/1-2/2 (meddling,welder,etc..)

This deck is the explanation to how we can win in early game or in late game. In both cases we are in full control. We have the great advantage of the intu+ak+deep engine. The great insert are the misdirection, those cards had me win an about-loss match against T1Tog. Late game, it has a Tog, i luckily survived and i was at 9 pv. He has taken the yawg will with the mystical to defeat me, but he had 2 cards in hand, he probably hasn't had protections. He drew the yawg and played Deep, i misdirected it to me, he in response played an Ancestrall recall, and i misdirected it too. I drew 5 cards and he had in hand only the yawgmoth, with me have a Drain in hand. He tried but i countered, next turn i won.

Even if the enemy knows what are your winning conditions, he can't do anything about it. And it's very funny to see it's scared face Razz

So, let's discuss about it.
Thanks to MaxxMatt who let me known this deck (Maxx, i'm awaiting for the second part of your primer!!)

i'm quite interested in workshop version of Mask.
This is a very interesting idea. The real problem in this version is, we don't have searching cards in a wsMask.dec so we can't say definitely "i win" 'cause we can have a nought in hand but no mask...and vice versa. And remember that i'm looking for an unpowered build, so we can't have all the permanents granted by the moxes etc...so we'll just have a soft-lock w/ smokestack-tanglewire because we can't think that we'll ever be in permanent vantage.
Sure, the crucible lock is really good, but we'll have "only" 4 3ni 4 sphere of resistances 4 crucible 5 strips to have a SURE lock on opponent. What i suggest is, a version with Workshops, but blue/red version, with welders (Razz), and some drawers...what do you think bout it?
23  Eternal Formats / Creative / [Deck Discussion/Strategy/Viability] Vengeur Masque on: December 29, 2004, 04:36:17 am
@Negator13: Mmmh...really I don't need an plus-than-flying evasing creature, since i often use BoPs...

@Marton: Yes, I forgot it. It's a great card, used in old FEB...i like it, but what cut in MD? I cut the 4th Shapeshifter for a MD Devout Witness, i really need it. So i don't have free slots to put in hellion...what do you suggest??

Since i put MD the side-card devout witness, can a platinum angel substitute it in its sb slot?
24  Eternal Formats / Creative / [Deck Discussion/Strategy/Viability] Vengeur Masque on: December 28, 2004, 03:38:06 pm
Hi, i want to show you a deck which i liked a lot: Vengeur Masque.

It has plus must-counters than simple Mask
It has plus must-counters than simple FEB

It has more protections

It has more utilities

...and i think it's the best deck that can pack the Masknought combo without having fear of a particular hate.

This is my actual list:

3 Windswept Heath
3 Wooded Foothills
4 Savannah
4 Tropical Island
2 Forest

4 Survival of the Fittest
4 Illusionary Mask
4 Phyrexian Dreadnought
4 Volrath's Shapeshifter
1 Squee, Goblin Nabob

4 Brainstorm
1 Sylvan Library

1 Enlightened Tutor
2 Swords to Plowshares

4 Force of Will
2 Meddling Mage

4 Birds of Paradise
3 Wall of Roots
2 Quirion Ranger

1 Gilded Drake
1 Tradewind Rider
1 Phage the Untouchable
1 Sylvan Safekeeper

My sideboard:

1 Meddling Mage
1 Gilded Drake
2 Swords to Plowshares
2 Misdirection
1 Sacred Ground
3 Seal of Cleansing
1 Devout Witness
2 Naturalize
2 Ground Seal

Manabase:
6 Fetchs: They optimize brainstorms and library, and they'll save you if the opponent is packing heavy nonbasic land destruction.

8 Duals:  Wink

2 Forests: I needed those 2 basic lands...maybe i want to add a third basic land, a plains. I mean, we have a little count of lands, i think a 17th land may be ok.

Combo Pieces:
8 Masknought: In this deck, we can also act like a mask. Put mask in play then smash your opponent with a great 12/12 trampler. In control matchups, mask is a great weapon...if it enters in play, we won't have any problem with his counters.

4 SotF: It's a great creature fetcher and deck thinner. It's the other combo piece with Mask, if they are both in play the game is over.

4 Volrath's Shapeshifter: It's a great card, it can helps if a drednought is destroyed, and with him in play we can also have our 12/12 without mask. Great "utility" card in this deck. With Phage it's the other finisher of the deck. Maybe 4 are heavy, but they are blue cards and they are very useful in many cases. If i have to cut one of them, i'll do it in favor of the 3rd Quirion or 3rd Meddling.

1 Squee: The first card to fetch with survival. It grants free creatures each turn and it's an eternal blocker.

4 Brainstorm: A must, it can trasform a horrible hand in a magic hand...and it's in synergy with fetchs.

1 Sylvan Library: Very very useful. Maybe the problem is that we can use it only the turn after it enters play, but it helps really a lot. Synergy with shuffles ^^

1 Enlightened Tutor: It takes Sotf/mask/nought/library/anythingelse. A must.

2 Stp: With a lot of decks packing TfC (TinkerForColossus) it's very useful, even if we have our 12/12 and gilded drake...

4 Fow: We have blue. We have a lot of blue cards. We don't have protection. Here it comes force of will

2 Meddling mage: Very very useful card. We can play it vs control naming cunning wish, mana drain and anything else you have in mind...it's also a 2/2 critter  Wink , and we can fetch it with sotf

4 bop: mana mana mana!! We need mana, and they provide us it.

3 Wall of Roots: mana mana mana!!! We need mana, and they provide us it even in opponent's turn for survival...

2 Quirion ranger: it's one of strongest card here...untaps nought if oppo's playing aggro, and it can do many numbers with tradewind rider.

1 Gilded Drake: Uff...it's up to you to find it's use Wink

1 Tradewind rider: If the situation is stalling, reset all and win! Useful vs control...very useful.

1 Phage: Opponent MUST die and he must die NOW.

1 Sylvan Safekeeper: I tried this card here and i didn't regret my choice. It often saves our dreadnoughts from opponent's threats, and also helps shifter...A++

The side is :

1 Meddling Mage<---control, combo
1 Gilded Drake<---oath, TfC
2 Swords to Plowshares<---aggro, oath
2 Misdirection<---control, some combo
1 Sacred Ground<---Smokestack
3 Seal of Cleansing<---oath, ws.dec, dragon
1 Devout Witness<---oath, ws.dec, dragon
2 Naturalize<---like above
2 Ground Seal<---dragon, welder.dec

This is my deck...my greatest problem is if i have to replace the 4th shapeshifter with 3° quirion or meddling...

I said my ideas, now it's up to you

Aka Very Happy

EDIT: I think that the card that replaces the 4th shifter may be an artifact/enchantement blaster, like devout witness maindeck...can it be?
25  Eternal Formats / Creative / [Rebuilding]MaskNought on: December 12, 2004, 02:45:43 am
So, because we don't search for a bunch of cards that are useful with mask? I mean, the Mask can be used for morph, for avoiding "come-into-play" abilities, ecc...and i think it would be a waste not to use it. I'll search in cards database to find those creatures, but the problem is: the mayor threats are artifacts. So equal to dreadnought. How can we do?  Crying or Very sad  Crying or Very sad  Crying or Very sad

i wanna add 3/4 Unmask for protect better the combo give major aggressivity to the deck...because sometimes we need other discard elements...but what can i modify for put in the unmask? I'm sure they will help a lot...i have added the berserks just for have a one-turn-kill. For removal, i added argivian. This may be a little slow compared for control decks, but it can control with discard/artif-ench hate, and response with argivian to control's plays against mask/nought...but it's still in construction, so every suggestion you have feel free to post it here, i'll have it in consideration for further modifies.

Tnx

27  Eternal Formats / Creative / [Rebuilding]MaskNought on: December 11, 2004, 05:08:41 am
Hi all, i want to talk about a deck which isn't used a lot those days...but it has a lot of potential to show.
I'm talking about MaskNought, the deck with the Illusionary Mask+Phyerxian Dreadnought combo.

It isn't used today -i think- because of the very large amount of Artifact Hate that's present in EVERY sideboard of ANY deck...even if your dread/mask is protected by duress/fow, your opponent will play R&R/Naturalize/Artif Mutation/Disenchant/etc. and someone of these MUST resolve. If not, you are a God, considering that even your oppo plays protection.

So, i'm here to show you a deck which DOESN'T LOSE TO A RACK&RUIN. Yes, you understood.

I won't purpose you Leonin Abunas Very Happy
I won't purpose you Lightning Greaves
I won't purpose you a deck without Mask-Nought Razz

But i'm here to purpose you one card that is in synthony with all the rest of the deck.
I'm talking about

Argivian Find
W
Instant
Return target artifact or enchantement card from your graveyard to your hand.

This...this is simply AMAZING!

A Mask countered, a Nought ruined...you can spend this only W in EoT and restart!

My version of the MaskNought combo abuses of this card.

My build is B/W/G.

My build is unpowered.

"What did you say?"
Yep, my build is unpowered.
I think that this deck can also -if not BETTER- work without power.

This because it can mount a major number of protection/destruption/etc...and that's very useful.

Here I post the deck:

Aka's Mask

Combo Kill:

4 Illusionary Mask
4 Phyrexian Dreadnought

Utility/Discard:

4 Duress
3 Cabal Therapy
3 Seal of Cleansing
2 Withered Wretch
1 Living Wish

Search/Draw/Tutors:

3 Tainted Pact
2 Spoils of the Vault
1 Enlightened Tutor
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Necropotence
1 Demonic Consultation

Recursion:

4 Argivian Find

Finisher:

3 Berserk

Acceleration:

4 Dark Ritual
1 Mana Vault
1 Sol Ring
1 Mana Crypt

ManaBase:

1 Plains
4 Scrubland
2 Bayou
1 Savannah
1 Swamp
1 Snow-covered Swamp
1 Forest
2 Polluted Delta
1 Flooded Strand
2 Wooded Foothills

Here it is.
I play 3 Seal of Cleansing because they are are recyclable by argivian.
My personal "tech"  Razz  Razz is the Living Wish...at a first glace it isn't useful and it's casual, but what if they StP you Nought or if you Spoil/Taint out useful cards?

I found it very useful.

I play Berserk because i don't even think i have 2 turns to kill a Tog or Keeper: they'll always find solutions for ours threats and then we can't do anything.
But, we attack. Keeper plays Mystical for StP/Disenchant/anythingelse. He  is at 24 'cause of Exalted's Attack. Next turn we'll die. The attack pass and we play Berserk. GG

So this is my deck
With my modifies

Let's discuss it Smile

Let's try to make sideboard Smile

Sorry for my bad english but i'm italian and i'm still learning it  Wink

@nastaboy: maybe i will add 1 seal MD...but i like also disenchant 'cause its instant. maybe side: -2 disenchant +2 seal
so MD ihave 1 disenchant and side 2 disenchant+2seal.
Maybe i'll change vault for the 4th unmask MD and in side -1 unmask +1 chains. -1 void +1 chains.
I'll try this build, and i'll tell you

Hi all, i'm a new italian user. I want your suggestions about an unpowered mask b/w...i know that without power9 it can't be so competitive, but i'm still building it and with your help i may build at least a tier1,5-tier2 deck. This is my actual decklist:

//Just a bit of mana for play:
4 Polluted Delta
3 Swamp
3 Snow-Covered Swamp
3 Scrubland

//Just a bit of Mana-Hand-Artifact disruption:
3 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine
4 Duress
4 Cabal Therapy
3 Unmask
1 Disenchant

//Just a bit of spells to accelerate:
1 Mana Vault
1 Sol Ring
1 Lotus Petal
1 Mox Diamond
4 Dark Ritual

//Just a bit of tutors to have all:
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Enlightened Tutor

//Just a bit of drawers to draw some cards:
3 Tainted Pact
1 Necropotence

//Just a bit of critters to liquefy the opponent:
3 Phyrexian Negator
3 Withered Wretch
4 Phyrexian Dreadnought

//Just a bit of protection from countered creatures:
4 Illusionary Mask

//Just an utility to lock the opponent:
1 Crucible of Worlds

Sideboard:
3 Disenchant
3 Swords to Plowshares
1 Unmask
2 Cranial Extraction
4 Planar Void
2 Gate to Phyrexia

11 discard cards are the only protection the deck has...with 1 disenchant Razz ...i can't imagine this deck with less discard cards...starts like ritual duress-cabal anything else is the better start we can desire.
I choose the white as support color because we can have disenchant-stp-enlightened...i also tried the blue but it's too mana intensive. Yes a fow is good stuff but i prefer ruin the opponent's hand. Pact is very strong here, and 3x is the right number. mono-crucible 'cause we can tutor it when needed.
mmhhh that's it...gimme some help!
Thx
