How are you guys from Colorado getting there?  I've been entertaining the idea of going so I can see all my friends from Ohio again.
Myself, Brett Piazza and Connelly Woods are driving out. You want me to see if there is more room?

Can a brother get his name spelled right... geez

Also congrats to Trav for winning some power, For an update of K.C. I took home some money as I have in every GP I have attended but had a horible day 2.. so oh well

Sounds like a fun tourney though, sucks to have missed it.

Yea, Unfortunately I gotta head out to Kansas City in my efforts to become a real boy... err Magic Player.

Gotta keep the money streak at Grand Prixs alive after all, pro points help the cause as well.

But hopefully this is an awesome tourney and anyone other than that smelly ass Asian wins. Bob Yu ruined Fact or Fiction for me... Smile

My sideboard is messed up when it gets down to- 3 Krosan grip, 2 Pernicious Deed, that should be 3 Crime//Punishment, 1 Wheel of Sun and Moon, and 1 Hide//Seek.

Other than that, the only reason I wouldn't concede was because I actually had outs, I simply needed to draw another spirit guide to play one of the 3 Katakis I drew after you had established a sphere of resistance. The sucky thing was, I ripped the needed spirit guides both turns after you had played an additional sphere. So Basically, You undid my topdecking 2 seperate times, while of course, ripping the nuts your self lol. 3 Sphere of Resistance and a second stax after I had duressed away a trinisphere and nailed a smokestack with cabal therapy... weak sauce indeed, especially that now I get to see that you only ran 3 total spheres, what a sack!

Fun tourney though Smile

I'm going to Atlanta for work at the beginning of September, but I might be back for this, as the job is only supposed to last 4-5 days.

Glad to see a tourney at Carl's. Bummed about it being sanctioned.

O shut up, you know damn well you'll be playing Ichorid regardless, and who needs proxies for that Smile

Yea as I said Im down for any type 1 tourneys I can physically be at, Im going back to Chicago for the rest of the summer come June 18th, partly to satisfy the family, and partly for magic purposes, so I won't be at any vintage tourneys until August, after grand prix Denver.

I have Grand Prix Indy coming up and then have to devote most of my time to testing for Nationals so even if I were in CO it would be tough, but post GP Denver, Im down.
11  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: BLACK GOLD - 7th Vintage Proxy Results on: June 04, 2008, 09:02:05 pm
I think we all know the real reason you can't take a full breath Lou, and it may or may not involve male genitalia in your mouth.

Fun, tourney, sucked pretty hard having to mulligan 3 times in 2 games and lose on turn 1 both times due to having poor hands once I got into the top 8, but those things happen.

I would of course be down for any and all future vintage tourney's in which I can physically make it to. And hopefully Carl continues his and maybe ventures out into some other store tourneys so he can unleash his inner beast.

Slightly dissapointed that I missed this tourney. Unfortunately, I ended up in the hospital all weekend with Kidney Stones (yes they suck as much as you have heard). Tournament sounded like it went fairly well past whatever situation arose with Eric/Lou, but I don't have enough info to comment on that so I'll just let it be and say that Eric besta not be throwing in the towel as he has been one of the best people to play magic with that I've ever met.

O well, thanks Carl for running a tournament without me... I know it must have been painful not to read my name on the pairings list each round. I'll be back though Smile

Since Bob started the name correction thing, may as well continue with Conley as the correct spelling.

But yea in the top 4 your draws were redict, even without me whiffing with therapys... (Who plays 1 ponder srsly? lol) And with regards to the laughing at you not winning with your time walk turn, I was a little bitter after having some bad combo experiences at the extended PTQ the day before, but I knew the match was essentially over and had to find some enjoyment out of it. But yea, congrats on finals bro.

15  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: T8 decks from BLACK GOLD - 3/9 on: March 11, 2008, 02:16:57 am
I should Note that my list (3rd place) has 3 Null rods not 2.. and has no blue in it lol.. but other than that name error everything looks good.

Was a fun tourney overall. Regarding the passing of priority situation, I was misinformed of the game state. What I was told was that the Bazaar was activated during upkeep, Matt had no responses, Brett discarded and then passes priority with no more effects, and Matt once again paseed back then Brett went to draw and Matt requested priority again... Apparently the passing of priority only happened 1 time with an empty stack, not twice.. So it turned out everything was fine and  the argument occurred over miscommunication, so I'll man up and say I was wrong (although right with the info I was given).

And all the props and slops have been given out with the exception of:

Slops to Bob Yu for being Bob Yu (jk you know I love you)

Unmask is cool and all, but since he is trying to put a decent clock on at the same time as disrupting the opponents strategy, why not run mesmeric fiend in that spot? It acts as duress 5-8 and has been used in fish before. In a mono black deck that could theoretically drop this on turn 1 and always on turn 2 it seems like a good choice, and  a distraction for removal while you beat down with shades or something.

Also, with wretch mainboard... why not run the leyline in the board... It seems infi better than dystopia, wtf is that anyway? Who plays white or green perms other than fish which there are better options to deal with that. just replace planar void with them though.

Also, doesnt mindtwist seem good? I know misdirection is big and all, but with as fast as you empty your hand it seems pretty good... it is restricted for a reason, Id drop the nezumis for mesmeric fiend, and the funeral charms for 1 mind twist, 1 demonic tutor, 1 vampiric tutor, and 1 darkblast.... with tutors in your deck you get much better consistency, even if you are running 4 ofs, running 6 ofs is better. Darkblast solves what you were looking for from funeral charm, except its reusable, and with tutors your runnign 3 of it essentially.... same with mindtwist which can be an auto win in some matches combod with wretch, duress, or fiend.

then, again,  to revamp the board, id switch the planar voids for leylines, and get rid of dystopia for something better in more matchups, cant think of anything right now... but when i do ill edit
18  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Transitional Sideboard: A two for one Deck Discussion. on: December 10, 2006, 11:55:06 pm
It seems to me, that if fish is as abundant in your metagame as you describe, why would you not run Oath as your Deck X and then sideboard into a different strategy. This allows you to almost always win game 1 versus fish, then as they bring in oath hate, and sideboard out swords because they know your running simic sky swallower, you bring in your gro plan. This signifigantly increases your chances of winning with gro and even if you lose, you still have the mental advantage of sideboarding into oath again or tricking them and remaining with the same gro list... and effectively giving yourself a chance at winning game 3. The fact that both lists are primarily the same colors, and are hurt by complete opposite spectrums of hate, seems like the best option. Regardless of whether you choose to run oath or gro as your game 1 list, I personally think this is your best option for transforming.
19  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: What exactly qualifies as stalling on: December 02, 2006, 08:42:47 pm
Your misunderstanding my point.
This isn't a court of law - the level of proof is substantially lower.

This line of reasoning is part of the current problem - players don't have an inherent right to more than half of the allotted time limit for the round just because they have a more complex deck than their opponent. In a 50 minute round, you get roughly 45 minutes of Magic-playing, and taking more than 22.5 minutes is putting the burden on your opponent to play fast so that the match finishes within time.

Im not arguing that a more complex deck deserves more time, So much as im saying it IS going to take mroe time in a matchup as i described. A zoo Player is not going to take 22.5 minutes in a match, A) because his goal is to win quickly, B) the decisions he makes are not very complex, C)his deck revolves are the combat step.

He should recieve the same amount of time on paper, but when a game is in progress, and the zoo player exhausts his hand in 3 turns, and then is in top deck mode, ripping a creature every time, he pure and simple is not going to take very long. So this in point gives the opponent playing gifts more time, which just so happens to be what he needs. Expecting every player to take up half of the time exactly is ignorant of the fact that some decks won't take up that much time, and others are going to take up more time.

If time was set as stated, we would be promoting the dumbing down of magic players in building decks for the sake of time. Basically, we are then saying that time equality is more important than the progression of the game. In NO other timed sport is time meant to be equally distributed. And chess is the only game where this is seen.

Also their becomes a huge problem in limited formats where one could argue that the player did not have such a choice to play a more simple deck because the cards for one did not come his way. So hes then punished because of the bad luck of the draw? Seems not like a fun game at that point.
20  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: What exactly qualifies as stalling on: December 02, 2006, 07:08:04 am
I think the real issue is that a lot of people are missing the point. The point is that time isn't inherently a part of Magic like it is sports games; the only reason Magic rounds are timed is because of time constraints. This is why T8s are untimed - to allow people all the time they need. T8 games often stretch hours long.

If you're trying to make things as consistant as possible, the simplest method is chess clocks. Give each player 30 minutes per round; if you run out of time, you cannot take any more non-required game actions (or you forfeit). This means you can't be nailed for stalling, as stalling is meaningless; you're just shooting yourself in the foot.

This would be the worst possible solution of all in my opinion. Reason being is that, plain and simple, some decks are just inherently harder to play and require more time to make larger decisions. You cannot give the guy playing zoo with nothing but creatures, and the guy playing gifts the same value of time here.

I realize it seems like you should, but deciding whether to play river boa or kird ape, versus searching what you want for gifts are 2 completely different monsters. Also how would you deal with counter based decks? If they play a spell and you decide to counter it, who had time run off their side of the clock? We already have some difficulties in priority with split second and clocks would screw with it even more.

Personally, I think we just need to leave this to the judges, they are after all, in that position for a reason. Fouls in basketball for instance change from agme to game, and players learn to adapt, we as players, must learn to do the same. And lets remember, if a judge makes a call it is not as if that call is the end of the road and your screwed, you have the chance to appeal and talk with that judge letting him know why you were in the situation you were in.

Of course, avoiding these situations if possible is the first step to resolving the issue. Although i realize sometimes you get backed into a corner
21  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Mana Prison on: March 22, 2006, 03:28:00 am
2. Don't worry about it. We're talking about a 2 card combo for 6 mana that doesn't win the game, and is legal only in Legacy and Vintage, where the Flame Fusillade/Time Vault combo also costs 6 mana, and wins the game outright. Speaking of Legacy, this is good, but not that good in Legacy since it's kinda slow, Aether Vial exists, and it could be banned if necessary. In Vintage, it can be restricted, and "Vintage can handle it", as the saying goes.

The problem with this philosophy, is that this isnt a 2 card combo, its 2 cards that a great on there own and broken together.
Flame fusilade and time vault both suck if the other isnt present and u cant play both off a workshop. Mana Prison and null rod both act as very good stall components, buying you a few turns to find the other or win outright by themselves, but together they win the game....
22  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Fiery Telepathy on: March 09, 2006, 01:57:54 pm
Lol nice call jacob, yea this breaks in on pyromancys design space, not to mention even at 4 mana it was really that good... This is 8 mana and by the time it hits play (ur playing red) there will be no cards in your hand. At least pyro hit play on turn 3-4 and activated every turn after

sure, any of those work... i was just going opposite of disrupt more as a place holder... But the idea was there Wink
25  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Welkin effects on: March 08, 2006, 04:34:43 pm
Why not try to make this at least playable, and have it counter a spell... We have disrupt and this would be siimilar only it couldnt target instants or sorceries...

Maybe
Welkin Counter
{U}
Counter target creature, enchantment, or artifact spell unless its controller pays {1}
Welkin effect

This acts like a limited force spike early in the game, and late it can ne an overcosted mana leak. Also its pluses are negated by the fact that the surprise of a counterspell in your hand no longer exists.
26  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Mana Prison on: March 08, 2006, 04:18:49 pm
Yea, that is what i was thinking of when i posted about this being too good in stax... and at 4 casting cost, droping it on turn 1 is easy, which buys you at least a turn to drop null rod.... Leaving your opponent more pissed than if trinisphere were to be bombed early, and look what happened to that little card.

27  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Mana Prison on: March 07, 2006, 12:18:42 am
isnt all that powerful... i disagree.

Firts my question is, does this affect workshop at all, or will it still produce 3 mana

But this would be a crazy turn 1 drop against mana drain decks... if they dont force of will it, it essentially just took away their best card other than the  lotus/sapphire play. It also kills oath, leaving them with only a mox emerald as their turn 1 out to drop oath. Basically what im saying is this cant cost 2 mana because it gives to many decks the same effect as a trinisphere almost. And at 3 mana if the workshop still tapsfor 3 mana this just becomes another lockdown piece against certain decks. But pushing it to 5 mana makes it unplayeable... so i dont know
28  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Shrine of Deliberation on: February 16, 2006, 09:14:59 pm
Originally i had it as you stated... with it symmetrical all around. But i figured why punish the opponet for playing this as well? Then its a tutoring orims chant every turn for 2 mana. Also i had the first ability optional but i also assumed everyone would use the tutor effect rather than the draw. But here ill make the tutor effect cost life... to fit nicely with the scarifice ability. nd for now ill make it symettrical again

EDIT-
Your cantrip scenario doesnt work... bc you cant play spells... hence the reason this only affects ur first draw and permanent drawing sorces... I think that is reason enough to take off the 3 life per card clause
29  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Shrine of Deliberation on: February 16, 2006, 08:23:43 pm
Shrine Of Deliberation
{U}{B}
Enchantment
If a Player Would Draw a Card, That player may search his or library for a card and put it into his or her hand instead.

Players Cannot Play Spells

{3},Pay 10 Life: Destroy Shrine of Deliberation. Any Player May play this ability.
30  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Shrine of Deliberation on: February 16, 2006, 08:22:26 pm
Ok so i had an idea for a card that turns your draws into tutors... Obviously the effectis too powerful without some draw backs so here goes

Shrine Of Deliberation
{U}{B}
Enchantment
If a Player Would Draw a Card, That player searches his or library for a card and puts in into his or her hand instead.

You Cannot Play Spells

{3} Sacrifice Shrine Of Deliberation: Lose 10 Life.

Alright so i had many ideas for the last part of this and that of course is the negative effect for sacrificing it. It could read -Discard your hand- Lose x amount of life- Skip Your next turn-... so whatever you guys think fits there feel free to shout it out.

The flavor behind this card is that instead of waiting for random effects a mage seeks consultation from the shrine of deliberation which allows him or her to set up a game plan. But while the mage is focusing on his game plan, he is too busy to play any spells or get involved in outside dealings etc... When he chooses to break away from the shrine, he must leave a part of himself with the shrine as he goes more or less as a sacrifice.

Do what you guys do Best
