1  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: TDG 4/20 - A (very brief) T8 Report on: April 23, 2013, 12:38:38 pm
Thanks for the quick report. I think your deck is very solid. I do request your opinion on a few cards.

1. Mana Vault: I've always hated this card. What's your experience? I often find that I would prefer another colored source (e.g. a Mox Opal) since you need a relatively high number of colored mana to begin your storm rampage. Opal is especially nice since you can add black one turn and blue the next (assuming you go past turn one Smile).

2. I noticed you have 2 Chrome Mox and 1 Mox Opal. Any reason it's not 1/2 or 2/2 split? I find that I usually put the Mox on black with a Duress or something. Are you worried about drawing two Opals or do you not feel it's just not as good as Chrome?

3. Did you miss Windfall?

Thanks.

Wow, sick draws in the finals. Congrats!
3  Eternal Formats / Midwest U.S. / Re: *** Team Serious Midwest Vintage Series *** on: January 30, 2013, 07:10:55 pm
1. Madison, WI

2. Depends...probably an hour or two.

3. Depends on the players, right? A play set of undergrounds or a mox would be nice. Though, I would really just prefer something like $20 entry.

4. Space, clean tables, vintage players

5. Ideally zero proxies. Maybe we'll see a resurgence of aggro decks? Smile

I'm in! Big blue baby!
5  Eternal Formats / Midwest U.S. / Re: Monster Den, Minneapolis, MN 1/19 on: December 22, 2012, 04:04:27 pm
I'm so jealous. Dreamers used to host such great tournaments back in the day. Would be nice to have occasional tournaments in Madison.

Awesome! I appreciate the effort you guys are putting in to revive the Wisconsin vintage scene. I'll try to make it.

Too bad for B.C.  Sad
But congrats to Marc.
Top 8 Decklists

The winning list is card-for-card the list I would have played at GenCon if not for work (other than the sideboard mountain). Congrats to everyone who played and represented the greatest format.

It's really a shame that this isn't being streamed. Hopefully someone will at least record the top eight matches for later viewing. Unfortunately, it's the closest some of us get to real sanctioned vintage. What I would give for a sanctioned vintage scene around here...
9  Eternal Formats / Online Tournaments / Re: Duck Weekly Tourney #13 on: April 22, 2012, 05:59:33 pm
I can't play today or tomorrow, so I'll concede. Sorry, Guli...we'll play for fun when I have some time. =)

Are decklists going to be posted for this event and the previous few Xtreme events?

Got absolutely smoked by GI 2-0 playing my bant deck. I made play mistakes, but it wouldn't have mattered anyway as I would have needed much better draws to deal with what he threw down. Have yet to win a game with that pile!
13  Eternal Formats / Online Tournaments / Re: Duck Weekly Tourney #8 on: April 06, 2012, 01:57:31 pm
This one's finally over. Lost to GI in 3 great games. I was playing Snapcaster control and he was on Bob control. The second game was particularly interesting and involved about 10 momentum swings and some Jace fights. He ripped a REB to kill my Snapcaster one turn before his Jace would have been attacked to death. From there, Jace took the match by doing what he does.

I played Guli today. Still waiting to play my match against GI.

I played a Stoneforge list and forgot to put in some Wastes. Oops. Would have helped against Guli's Maze of Ith in game two Smile

----

Round one against evouga:

Game one: We fought over his early Ancestral. I played a Drain and a FOW and he only had a FOW. From there, I dropped a Jace and generated enormous card advantage before beating him with his own Forbidden Orchard tokens and Snapcaster Mage.

Game two: I didn't have much to bring in against him (anyone else with ideas?), so I just threw in my 4th STP and a Misdirection. He mulled to four and I kept a sketchy six. His hand was actually quite broken--mox, mox, mox, tinker --> Blightsteel. I didn't have a FOW, but I did fortunately have STP in my opening seven. Again I generated enormous card advantage (from LoA this time) before assembling Vault/Key.

Fun games, though his deck didn't take off either game. Thanks, evouga.

I won 2-0 against evouga, I'll post a story/decklist later. Eastman: I'll have cockatrice up and running quite a bit in the next few days. Just log on whenever you have any free time and we'll hopefully get our match played in the next 2 days.
17  Eternal Formats / Online Tournaments / Re: TMD Online Invitational III - Community vs. Ringers on: March 30, 2012, 01:05:37 pm
I'll be on cockatrice tonight and this weekend, so I know evouga and I will find some time to play. Maybe Eastman could do the same so he could play our second round game too. Smile
18  Eternal Formats / Online Tournaments / Re: TMD Online Invitational III - Community vs. Ringers on: March 28, 2012, 10:04:24 pm
I've been on cockatrice the past few nights, but evouga hasn't been around. I'll keep cockatrice open the next few days and into the weekend whenever I'm free and we'll get this match done.
19  Eternal Formats / Online Tournaments / Re: TMD Online Invitational III - Community vs. Ringers on: March 27, 2012, 07:42:16 pm
I'm waiting one more day for the aforementioned matches.  I've heard from Duck and Serra so far.  If you're in one of the outstanding matches, please complete your match by tonight!  There are a fair number of people that are waiting on you!

Sorry Prospero, I've exchanged a few PMs with Ruboonia and was hoping we would play our match tonight, but we weren't able to arrange a time. Let me know how you want to proceed -- I completely understand if you need to DQ me so that the tournament can go on.

That was completely my fault. I was on call and couldn't get an hour off. How about tonight? When are you free?

I don't think I'll have free time tonight unfortunately. I could do tomorrow morning? I should also be free Thursday and Friday night.

Well let me know if you have some time tonight. I'll be hanging around cockatrice. Friday night *may* work, but unlikely.

Metallic Blue sleeves are opaque.

What I'd like to know is why it is so difficult to make an opaque white sleeve. I've been looking for some for like 5 years now.

Are they metallic on the front or the back? I assume clear in the front, shiny back?
22  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Dragon Shield on: March 26, 2012, 07:03:31 pm
Does anyone have any experience with the KMC metallic blue deck protectors? I'm thinking about buying a bunch of those and some KMC perfect fits for my decks.

Specific questions:
1. Do they fit with the perfect fits?
2. Can you see through the METALLIC KMC sleeves? I would hate to buy them for all of my decks only to find out that I can play Delver of Secrets and other flip cards. This is an important issue. I do have some of the KMC Super Orange sleeves and you can see through them. I would like to avoid that.

Thanks.
23  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Vintage on MTGO? on: March 14, 2012, 11:39:59 am
Or we could all just play cockatrice for free. For someone with substantial time commitments (and thus no real way to "make money" from playing on MTGO), the pros of paying cash for fake cards (which cannot be cashed out very easily, from what I understand) are clearly outweighed by the cons. I really don't understand why MTGO is so popular when you can already play online for free. If I were a new player, I think cockatrice would be the way to go.

Any vintage events on site? We could really use some...and would consider going to the event if so.

I took storm down in three games. Control vs. control mirror (i.e. the match took over an hour!) that came down to a fight over Sensei's Divining Top in the final game which ended in me Draining his FOW to fuel a massive Yawgmoth's Will.
29  Eternal Formats / Online Tournaments / Re: Duck Weekly Tourney #8 on: February 25, 2012, 10:53:43 pm
I took down boggyb in 2 games. I assembled Vault/Key very early in each game. So it goes. Smile
