We have recently concluded the 5-31-09 BCI Vintage Tournament.

Props:
To BCI for letting us use the venue again and the scrumptious Sisig Rice + Adobo flakes combo!.
To Thons for coordinating with BCI for me.
To Resley for helping and staying until the tournament is over.
To Andrew for donating 2 life counters as random prizes.
To the players who continues to support the Vintage format.

Slops:
Me for going back and forth to V-Mall to buy some stuff. Been awhile since I last organized a tournament so I keep forgetting what the SOP's are (decklists, table numbers, boosters).
For raining very hard and me wearing slippers going thru puddles of cold water. Yuck.
For not having a judge present thus cannot play. Booo.

Next tournament is scheduled sometime in July. 3rd week hopefully if schedule permits.

7  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: [Deck] ICBM Oath for Vintage 2.0 on: August 28, 2008, 02:35:51 am
I read the lists that were presented and noticed that most people are running only 2 Tyrants. Shouldn't there be 3 creatures at the most? I know that the deck evolved to more controllish than the combo version(Tyrant-oath pre restrictions) so couldn't a DSC be another option as another win condition? Tyrant needs another spell to be able to bounce stuff. DSC can win random games sometimes. Your thoughts?

@MMD

Silly me. I did forgot to list Grindstone. Edited it already. Thanks

@Artic79

I didn't see that you also ran Burning Wish. What's it target usually? I like B. Wish for added utility like a SB Duress or Thoughtseize and even Empty for additional Win conditions? The deck does not storm often as by the Painter + Servant build but it seems possible to string 4 spells for an average ETW? Will try to play this in the upcoming tourney's. That is if I can get the pieces together. I cannot fit other bullets such as Hurkyl's or Rebuild for the Stax match-up. The list is already tight not like the gifts deck of old.
10  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Deck Discussion] Drain Servant on: May 25, 2008, 11:25:24 pm
I've been thinking of a way to using this combo in a gifts shell for some time already. Seems made for a drain based deck since the combo pieces are all artifacts. I am planning on building this deck using the Probasco style Gifts Belcher shell something like:

Land: 24
3x Island
3x Volcanic Island
2x Underground Sea
2x Flooded Strand
3x Polluted Delta
1x T. Acadamy
5x Moxen
1x Black Lotus
1x Mana Vault
1x Mana Crypt
1x Lotus Petal
1x Sol Ring

Creatures/Artifact: 4
1x Darksteel Collosus
2x Painter's Servant
1 Grindstone

Blue: 25
1x Time walk
1x Ancestral
1x Gifts
3x Merchant Scroll
1x Tinker
4x Brainstorm
4x FoW
4x Mana Drain
1x Mystical
3x Thirst for Knowledge
1x Echoing Truth OR Chain of Vapor

Black: 5
1x Yawg Will
1x Vampiric Tutor
1x Demonic Tutor
2x Duress

Red: 3
2x REB
1x Recoup

In comparison to the deck posted by arctic79 (you listed 2 Y. Will's by the way), I cut:

-1 Painter
-1 Fact
-1 Burning Wish
-2 REB
-4 Counterspell

Add:
1 Island
1 Polluted Delta
1 Merchant Scroll
2 Duress
4 Drain

I believe that even if 4 REB's are god against any blue decks, Duress shouldn't be left behind. Not all decks are blue ie: Shops so Duress or even Thoughtseize are good to include. Running a control suite of 4 Drains, 4 Fow's,2 Duress and 2 REB's are enough to out muscle your opponent even w/o Painter in play. Also I noticed you used 4 Counterspells instead of Drains. Is that  a Typo or you really used them? How was it? I am also thinking bout the TFK's if Ponder is a better substitute but isn't the deck already cluttered with 1cc spells? How about Fact or Fiction? I cut the FoF for the 4th TFK. Let me know what you think
11  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Premium Article] Psychatog in 2008 on: March 05, 2008, 11:38:43 pm
In today's meta, isn't 8 counters not enough? Combo decks run 4-6 duress effects sometimes with FOW so how does it hold its ground against them? The 1st 3 turns are critical against the combo match up especially if you are on the draw. How soon do you expect to have drain mana up?
12  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Organizing Tournaments on: January 03, 2007, 12:15:12 am
Hi! I just want to get the opinions of the Tournament Organizers regarding the prizes.

How do you determine the prizes? I usually see that most tournaments in the results section offer a piece of power as prizes. Do you give out the Power regardless of the turnout or there should be a cut-off? How much to you people usually charge as entrance fee?

I have also read that in a tournament in Spain, they gave away what 16 pieces of Black Lotus to the Top 16? How much did they charge for entrance fee? I want to know how do you determine the prizes because I am planning to hold our own Mox Tourney in the Philippines. Thanks in advance Very Happy
13  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Salvager-Gifts (or: cutting the red crap from Gifts) on: October 17, 2005, 05:43:27 am
First of all I would like to commend you for opening this topic about salvager combo. I've been looking for someone who's interested with the combo and incorporating it in a competitive deck.

I have been testing with the deck lately and would like to post some comments on the difference between your deck list and mine.

The use of Gifts Ungiven
- I can see that you arfe using gifts as the set up card. Using reanimation spells as an alternative to yawgmoth's will. But isn't it a risk to use only one copy of salvager? You have no other way of winning ohter than a colossus if it has been dealt with. Also, you do not have the leisure of running recoup for Will in case its been countered/whatever.
*Though I like the idea I would certainly test that.

Cunning Wish
- Though the burning wish route is easier, cunning wish gives more flexibility in terms of the wcards it can fetch. It give you more option to specific threats as against to burning wish. The burning wish rout requires you to win NOW as compared to cunning wish which can win later. As a control player, I like the idea of winning later but with assurance that I would. Could it not be put MD? My only problem using cunning wish is that it clutters your board with plenty of instants that MAY actually be another card that could be sided in for something that you do not need.

Disruption
 I am currently running
4 Drains
4 Force of Will
3 Duress
This are the core disruption of a psychatog deck. The 2 blue counters explain themselves. Duress however takes the proactive approach picking out legal targets from opponent's hand before it sees play. Can't you make room for these? it could be because of different metagames but if you're seeing plenty of control then it could actually merit a second look. Also I would like to hear your comments on playing Misdirection if room permits. the deck runs blue as its major color and taking the idea of MD gifts win NOW could be a nice addition since you are running gifts for the set up and use cunning wish to fetch shallow grave. It would give you the option of taping out while still protecting yourself.

One side note:
In the case of using intuition instead of gifts, I could run intuition since I am playing with 3 salvagers but still using intuitions, it would be really tempting to use accumulated knowledge in the deck.

I'll send you my decklist when I get back to the office. Tell me what you think

14  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: So how do you guys do it?? on: July 25, 2005, 04:32:25 am
Well, I live in the Philippines and we have already tried an unlimited proxy tourney at an entrance of $5.5 and the price was a set of unlimited illusionary mask. It is really hard to draw players to participate and to think we expect more players than our sanctioned vintage tourney's averages about 15 per tourney. And to think the usual reason why people in our area does not like to play vintage is because of the fear of "power". The unlimited proxy should be able to help them with that problem since everybody is on the same ground no one having more of an advantage as the other. What can we do to draw more players other than the unlimited proxies is something that I cannot actually answer.

* Due to money problems, we cannot give out power cards. The most expensive i think that were given out was mana drains.
