I really dont see how you can justify running the warlord. First of all you didn't have 4 mishra's factories in the deck till someone suggested it to you which makes me think your testing is less extensive then you portrayed. Now for the warlord, just think about it. Say you have warlords evenely shuffled into your deck, you would have to go through 3/4 of your deck to have 3 out and by then you've won. Also all the while your trying to get more warlords, the horror is dealing 1 extra point of damage. THe horrorr is much better, but neither are that great. By running black your getting rid of grim lavamancer the best one drop fish has. At least replace if with another utility creature, like mesmeric fiend.

Also you need to cut the tutors. Fish isn't a deck stocked with huge game swinging effects. The most you'll tutor for is ancestral recall, which is a good target dont get me wrong. The tutors just aren't worth taking up 3 slots. You could add another daze and nullrod which would help your consistency. Durress was mentioned before, which is another option.

Overall though, I would say black is not the best choice. It seems that with black your trying to find way to deal with the same stuff that red can already deal with. I dont really think that black is the way to go to bring back fish. You'll still lose to welder based decks, and workshop aggro and what not.

My name is Ryan Koralewski and I grew up in Pottstown, PA. There really aren't to many type 1 tournaments in pennsylvania unfortunatly so i mostly play in a scrubby metagame at the local card shop. There are a few competitive type one players who are my best friends so we usually end up seeing top 8 every type 1 tourney. Occasionally a random person will come by playing stax, Tnt, or something though.

Currently i'm a student at Kutztown University, i'm majoring in Communication Design. There really isn't much mtg up here. I've seen a few people playing but they are just casual players. They asked me to play a few times but they dont really enjoy it because I play with competitive type 1 decks. I really wish i could find people to play with up here but unfortunatly I haven't found anyone. So i basically read articles and forums until i'm able to go home on breaks and play magic with my friends.

I personally think the deck looks really strong. I would probably run another deed over the library, but thats only because my metagame has a lot of aggro. I think i'll try testing out trinisphere today hopefully i'll get enough testing in to share my results.

I dont know i think the reason it's fading out of exsistence; besides, the increase of aggro in the metagame; is because the deck hasn't really seen huge improvements since the release of nantuko shade.  For it to come back i think they would have to print a card that would take it to the next level. So far i haven't seen one.

On the +1 something spot you were refering to, I believe someone had suggesting skeletal scrying. I really haven't tested it that much, but the deck could benefit from card drawing. Maybe including 1 may not be such a bad idea?

As for trinisphere, it's a very interesting card. I believe a couple questions should be answered first though. First off, is the inclusion of trinisphere necessary, does it benefit the deck at all? Also what cards are you going to cut to make room in a deck already packed so tight? I personally will try it out, but i'd be interested in how other peoples testing goes.

I was curious why you left out nantuko shade, one of the better if not the best black creature ever printed. Is your deck to mana intensive that you feel you make use of his pump ability? Either way I think nantuko deserves to replace carnophage at least.

I envy a lot of you, other then Ebay i dont know where I could imagine getting power. Even getting cards like mana drain around me is hard. It sucks if I wanted power i would have to basically shell out the money like i'm going to have to do for mana drains. I think trading for power when you dont have power cards is rather difficult, cause you end up giving so much for just 1 card.

Anyway enough complaining...

I play landstill if i was to get power would ancestrall be on top of my list?

Also whats a decent price for manadrain, currently i'm just playing with my friends set.
9  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / UR/UW? on: January 20, 2004, 10:59:44 am
Sorry, i'll clarify on that. The extended decks are the rock, tog, and RDW. Besides the extended decks there are also scrubby beat down decks. There isn't really any combo at all in the area around me. Also what is there any real advantage of UW over UR? I really like swords and degree but i dont know if there worth it.
10  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / URLandstill vs. UWLandstill on: January 20, 2004, 10:20:00 am
I've been playing URlandstill for about a month now but have been recently looking into UW mostly because i think the UW build is more interesting. My metagame is mostly extended decks with type 1 cards. The rest is made up of TnT, Keeper, Parfait, Sui, WMUD. So really there are only 5 decks that are cosidered type 1 decks. I'm not really sure which way to go, or doesn't it matter? Help would be appreciated.
