1  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Impulse vs Strategic Planning on: September 07, 2008, 10:37:04 pm
SPlanning works because of welder.
The card is worth $100.00USD because worlds had an amazing, deserved run.

Comparing the card to impulse is wrong.
2  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Deck] SlighClamp on: September 07, 2008, 10:21:02 pm
Srry for bad english. . . .

Clamp decks always seem to have potential in 1.0.  That being said, there is an inherant sexyness in putting in good draw in sligh type builds.  And a workable clamp is the definition of good artifact draw.  Just be careful of newly released cards. . . . .
Don't get into cute/good ideas;  mana denial is our very good friend: that is why we "hate".

Avalanche riders is a four mana disruption piece dude!
Spark is far beyound serpant [x=?] is a bad thing, go for the good one mana spells.  I gotta say the spark/clamp plays work great, clamp is a strong card, the problem is that you are a combo(burn) deck that is slower than 'BU' combo.

And btw, is lavamancer just a red 'bouncer' in this format?
3  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: Worship + fetchlands on: July 20, 2008, 07:11:40 pm
Logically that makes total sense, in order to not have a ridiculous interaction between card like bargain and worship.

Yawgmoth's Bargain  4BB    Enchantment
Oracle Text:
Skip your draw step.Pay 1 life: Draw a card.

So am I to understand that the key point to get is the 'self-inflicted' part of losing life points?

4  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: Worship + fetchlands on: July 20, 2008, 06:54:01 pm
This would lead to the understanding that necro/bargain would not be technically damage.
5  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: Worship + fetchlands on: July 20, 2008, 06:28:26 pm
Thanks.  I think alot of players have difficulty understanding what is 'damage' and what isn't.  Is there anywhere besides the comp. rules where this is explained and easily accessable?
Or is the concept so simple that: if you pay life as part of any effect; or if the opponent causes the loss?
6  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Worship + fetchlands on: July 20, 2008, 05:57:47 pm
I have an active Worship out and I'm riding it out on one life.  I then activate a fetchland, is this considered damage?  Thus am I still 'hiding' behind my worship?  By extension, is the loss of life from Force of Will/Contagion one and the same?

Worship  3W  Enchantment
Oracle Text:
If you control a creature, damage that would reduce your life total to less than 1 reduces it to 1 instead.
7  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Article] Vintage Fallout and a New Beginning on: June 08, 2008, 05:42:26 pm
Just musing. . will Survival builds have any merit in the brave new world?  The quality of creatures has improved exponentially since the strategy was invalidated.
8  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Scrubbish White-weenie looking for improvement on: April 27, 2008, 01:55:01 pm
It seems like you would have trouble getting green instead of white on turn one.  Is that true?  Because Root maze is definately the first play, no? Maybe up a spirit guide, do you really need that much colourless, because crypt doesn't seem potent.
9  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Viashino Hereticical question on: April 16, 2008, 05:51:19 pm
If I use the activated abillity of Viashino Heretic targetting a Colossus (any indestructable), does the damage resolve even though the destroy effect wouldn't?

Viashino Heretic
Oracle text: 1R, T Destroy target artifact. Viashino Heretic deals damage to that artifact's controller equal to the artifact's converted mana cost.

10  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Scrubbish White-weenie looking for improvement on: March 30, 2008, 02:46:46 pm
Your deck is comming close to the point where the house that is 'Suppression Field' is viable.  Mayhap get rid of the dogg for a goyf?
Also, does the full 4 grunts feel like overkill?
11  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: B/R changes: Nothing happened on: March 01, 2008, 06:00:13 pm
I frowned at the new Extended system.

Really, won't the new system will increase the variability of decklists?  Especially since they are moving away from the real heavy 'linear block mechanic v. linear block mechanic' ways of the past.  It could lead to analyzing more lesser known cards as people look for replacements.

I would love to see Chains of Mephistopheles get some more action.

Dark Confidant+Chains is probably the best you can do with any sort of interaction these days.

I'm using Confidant + Chains right now. It's a blast. I also have counterbalance + top which is great against almost every deck.

I though chains & bob doesn't jive because Bob does not" draw".  It's a reveal instead.
13  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: 0 creature Oath Idea on: February 17, 2008, 08:45:57 pm
I've seen lists with ewitness + collosus(tink) as the only two men.  aka 'storm' lists.  It has always been proposed that a list like that is < ;say a tyrant list.

Didn't Bueler popularise 'storm' list quite awile back?

And is an ewitness storm kill < or > than a tyrant kill?

The detailed matchup analysis series was the best reason for premium for me.  ie. showing specific interactions.  Thats comming from a 'vintage newcommer'

Thx, those are top notch results, excellent breakdown. Very Happy
16  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Never been done on: December 09, 2007, 03:17:22 pm
Ya, the hope was to take it definately out of 'un' territory if possible.  The card just screams broken, but could be incredible for the casual crowd because it has pretty much limitless possibillities.  Broken cards are 'fixed' by changing casting cost, no?
17  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Gamblers Expo - Valencia (25th Place) on: December 09, 2007, 02:17:42 pm
Interesting take.  Have you ever considered Jitte in one of the SoFI slots?

Erratic Erata      {4} {R} {W}
Enchantment
{6}, pay 6 life, remove Erratic Erata from the game:  You may change one word in the text box of any permanent you control to another one word.  This effect lasts until end of turn.

issues:
- this obviously couldn't effect your opponents cards, else you could change a word like 'creature' to something ridiculous like 'newspaper'
- it was hoped to have someway to have this card effect spells (ie. changing tinker while announced from artifact to say creature), but no way was discovered to not make this an absolute disaster, so it remains 'permanent you control'
- this is my first card creation, so it's a little out there, but so was platinum angel and mindslaver once upon a time
- this card will obviously lend itself to some game winning combo, but casted high enough if you cheat with say rector, replenish or ideal, is it really better than say bargain, form, or dovescape?
- was casted RW because a. they're enemy colours; b. W is the 'enchantment colour'; c. R is the 'chaotic colour'
-  this is a very rough start, as you have the problem of an artifact like Fountain of Youth, and change "one" to "ninety", this would need to be addresed and some other limit must be added
- How this could translate into other languages could be a potential nightmare

responses?  feedback?  flaming?
19  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: The Abyss & Slivers on: December 07, 2007, 11:24:33 am
From gatherer:  If the target becomes invalid after being chosen but before resolution, you do not have to choose another target.
This implies that I have the abillity to chose fanatic, sac, then because the target is invalid, I do not have to chose another target, say warchief?
20  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: The Abyss & Slivers on: December 07, 2007, 11:07:53 am
Thx guys. Very Happy  Therefore can you also vial out a fanatic, and proceed to sac him before The Abyss trigger happens?  The confusion arises from the question of whether you have priority before the trigger as the active player when there is a world enchantment reading 'At the beginning of each player's upkeep'.  And if this is so, then opponent gets a response the the activated abillity; all before the trigger of The Abyss?
21  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / The Abyss & Slivers on: December 06, 2007, 05:15:13 pm
Is it true that 'The Abyss' has no effect on your army of slivers if Crystalline Sliver is in play, due to shroud?  If this is so, then can you vial out crystalline at the beginning of your upkeep in order to get this effect?
The Abyss
Card Type: World Enchantment
Rules Text (Oracle):  At the beginning of each player's upkeep, destroy target nonartifact creature that player controls of his or her choice. It can't be regenerated.

Crystalline Sliver
Card Type: Creature - Sliver
P/T: 2/2
Rules Text (Oracle):  All Slivers have shroud. (They can't be the targets of spells or abilities.)

Thx for taking the time to write the article. Very Happy

I think Thoughtseize v duress will be analyzed to death for awhile, but people seem to miss the best part of these sorceries in T1, seeing your opp. hand.

Can I assume that everyone was down with MWS as the accepted program?
24  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Re: Ice Age Block Event on: August 08, 2007, 05:56:41 pm
Sorry this is a rules ques, but. . .If i Commandeer a consult, can I name something like say orim's chant in order to juice the consult?
25  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Re: Ice Age Block Event on: August 07, 2007, 08:10:25 pm
I'm totally interested.  I would prefer using the mws format.  To my knowledge, this is the first real experiment of this block.  But did they really trash the hell out of the homelands set when they realesed coldsnap? lol

Now that I saw the banned cards,  why did they ban Orb??  because of necro lifegain?
26  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Re: Ice Age Block Event on: August 07, 2007, 06:10:05 pm
No homelands??  No merchant scrolls, or is it a 4 block set now?

Don't forget the artifact lands, to ensure drops when needed.
28  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: What can be done to save White magic ? on: January 04, 2007, 05:02:58 pm
White does seem to be heading towards twodimentional, weenies + lifegain.  Maybe a tech angel will make the new set.  I assume armageddon will never see the light of day?
29  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Re: Casual Oathstill on: January 04, 2007, 04:58:20 pm
Oh man, the Morphling + 2spikes is so old school.  I remember how annoying it was to have to keep recurring your grave for like ever with that config.  I remember in the old days how we used to side in SQueen & Serraavatar, good times.
