Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: [Report] Myriad Games July - with Shop Combo

Great Deck Workshop decks have always been my favorite choice and if they support Combos it is even better. I just wanted to point out, there is another draw engine hidden in this deck. The one with Rings of Brighthearth and Sensei's Divining Top. You can copy the draw ability so you get to draw a card + your top. If you are in the infinity Mana Mode (with monolith + rings for example) you can draw your entire deck like this.

You can`t really compare this card with thirst for knowledge. With thirst i can discard expencive artifact spells and bring them into play via welder which is awesome. Here you draw 2 cards and have to sacrifice a permanent wich is nocht quite hot in the most situations. I donīt wanna play it in the eary game because i want to build up my manabase. In the mid or later game i can cast more effective draw Spells like Thirst or Gifts.
But there are indeed situations where this card could be useful besides the wasteland example you already gave. You can remove bobs with it which can be quite annoying if you have reached a low life level.
Another question is, can it be used in a combo deck because there it is wo play cards with a bigger drawback for the tempo boost (like Infernal Contract maybe?)

The Problem i often face is to get some mana running if you focus in building up the "dredge" machine (especially with oponents playing 5 strip effects). So i am not really sure how powerful the fetchlands cause they are useless when all the targets are already in the graveyard. I was thinking of the inclusion of Life of the Loam at first but you don`t have the mana to use it at any time ( and if you have 2 mana you don`t need it anymore ). You play Deep Analysis in the Polska Version, same here isn`t it way to expensive for this effect, well i didn`t test this version so far and it might be possible with all the mox power. But i guess it is really necessary to play additional disruption besides 4 therapies if you don`t want to loose the race against combo decks or even control decks like gifts. Lions Eye Diamond - is something that could fit pretty well in this deck like in the List coming from Belgium.

The Hypermud is similar, but on the whole this is a different deck. We don`t use Metalworker and Staff Combo and so and nearly 1/3 of the Deck is different.
The Problem was going for pressure stuff or card drawing. Laying down multiple threads fast enough should be enough against most Decks. Carddraw would be fine but the options are limited if u want to stay mono red. Grafted Skullcap sux with all the rebuilds being played and Mind`s Eye has has a cc of 5. Well of Knowledge only works well with Metalworker. So we said playing more threads should be the way. The top is an interesting card we wanted to test after the Tournament, with 4 fetchlands and crucible it should improve the cardquality and help against those i draw 5 rounds nothing of relevance.
I tested many different versions of the Deck, even trying Mask and dreadnought to maximaze early broken play possibilities. I also played with blue using tfk and the restricted goodies, which worked fine for me (cutting the juggies and monkeys). But Heiner wanted to play a Mono Red version for the reasons he mentioned at the beginning of his article.

I would say severals Teams have been testing some Decks trying to abusing Time Vault. But I haven`t seen a decklist with more than 1 Fussilade online so far, so i can say nothing about the dutch version Hero 't Mannetje is testing.

Yeah long lives Team Swine Rider ^^
The Metagame here is beginning to change, after having seen few graveyard hate last month. This day the players changed Artifact hate for graveyardhate, which was necessary. So no wonder that the 2 Cerebral Assassins got kicked in the ass. There was also a shift away from a workshop heavy meta towards a control heavy meta (but this happened during about 2 or 3 month and is not a result of the restriction).
Jan: 6 Workshop Decks (47 Players) Feb: 3 Workshop Decks (38 Players) Mar: 1 Workshop Deck (31 Players)

I can not understand the Problem u have with Welder, it is a 1/1 Creature that is vulnerable to nearly every Creature Removal in the T1 cardpool. So even if it comes first turn, it is possible to remove him as fast as he entered the game.
I think the Problem (the welder Dominance), in the States is a result of Proxie Tournaments. Nobody wants to play Aggro there (normaly with about 8 or more welder killing Cards), everybody wan`s to play all the proxies available, so they netdeck and find DrainsSlaver. There they can also play their favourite Cards like mana drain. The philosophy seems to be jump on the train and play slaver yourself, rather then do something against it. Fish should have a reasonable Matchup against Slaver so why don`t try it again with the deck? Or be innovative, don`t try to build a new ultra combo Decks, but a decent Aggro Deck to rule in this Metagame.
P.S. Just for fun i created an anti Slaver Sui, it could also been Sligh or whatever. Null Rod stops the combo, creature removal for welder or Threads and Graveyard removal (less attention is been payed on this to stop welder or the accu/thirst draw engine and even Crucible) and chains of mephistopheles for the draw engine. And sorry for my bad english.

@LoLinger: You have Problems with FCG when you play Slaver? ...mhm..OK And you are right ist is not too new. It is just the Thing that you can do many things with slaver when the opponent is NOT playing an unpowered Aggro Deck. Congratulations! And impressing you played 2-0 every match except the one against Markus. And uui only 21 Players this time? Especially the ones against TnT and Trix ..he he (with a crappy Deck )! Impressing Thilo changed his Deck *fg*

Eternal Formats / Creative / Looking For a Better Card Drawing Engine.

There are several other Draw engines : - Modern ones like Skullclamp in Aggro Decks or in combination with cheap critters and Genesis Chamber. - Grafted Skullcap in MUD Decks. - Meditates in the old StaX build
@smmenen : You missed the Bazaar (squee) drawing engine which is really strong in Decks like Dragon, Madness and (reanimator).

What about Lightning Greaves to Protect your Welders and give them haste so you can bring Titans in play from your graveyard at instant speed and attack in the same turn.
Triskelion is really an excellent Idea against all these Aggro decks. You just shoot all their Creatures down and then use your welder to change the "empty" Trisk for something better.

No dragon is an idiots nightmare ..............BLA............ ..... @Tobi: Nice report! And funny game against that that Tog round 3 TOPDECKMODE (i only saw the finish but this was quite funny). And funny game against you, good work. 2 Naturalize, Reclamation and some wastelands ....shit that was little too mutch, but still close i daw the missing animate spell 1 round too late --so congratulation from me! I have to say i am partly guilty for all these Dragon builds this time, because of the good results last time in Karlsruhe. So many from Heidelberg came with a Dragon build oder MADDragon...... But all those Tog builds suprised me, i didn`t expect so many of them.

Eternal Formats / Creative / b/u/g dragon up for review and needs help with sb

So you need the Caller of The Claw in your Hand and 3 Mana open or it is in your gravyard...ok. But there are other possibilities like Chain of Vapor or Pernicious Deed to deal with Permanent Hate.
I think that too mutch anti Hate Cards are not good for the Deck. Well you have to remember that you are Playing a Combo Deck and not a Control Deck.

Can anybody explain the the Caller of the Claw trick against Damping Matrix and Root Maze, how does this exactly work?
I would play 4 Duresss instead of 4 Force of Will because you can just cast them before going of and don`t have to pitsch impotant blue cards.
In the SB i would play 3 Deeds and 3 Verdant Forces they are too powerful against so many decks ( StaX or Control ). Qou can even add 1 Plated Slugwurm if you expect a lot of Swords.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Keeper vs Trinisphere
|
on: February 19, 2004, 08:34:54 am
|
@Heiner: This was just my Testbuid of o mono Brown version and i threw the Cards together in 5 min so it was completely untested. And i would still say that the matchup against Keeper is in favor of the workshop player *g*. (by the way to Stax Version of this Deck is quite stronger ) All you have to do against keeper is to play Trinisphere early. And then you can bring your other Lock Parts. All you have to do is to remove his lands or Artifactmana ( Smokestack, Wastelands and Tangle wire are quite good there.)

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Debate: Why Dragon?
|
on: February 13, 2004, 09:19:31 am

Dragon is actually the most successful Deck on Turnaments. I thought about playing RectorTrix as well but there ist too much hate like Stifle, Swords, Graveyard removal or Enchantment Removal to play this Deck successful. I would prefer plying a Dragon Deck even if it hast problems with the same Hate Cards it has the better draw engine and you have multible Win options.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Deck] Dragon - Driving through the Hate

Well i just wanted to point out that it ist still possible to make good results with Dragon on a T1 Tournament. I will post a link with the Top8 soon when it is online. So i will not post andy Deckist so far What i have to say why do you want to cut your Animate Spells ??? When you expect a lot of Aggro itt is maybe possible to reanimate a good Creature of the opponents Graveyard and against Control you don`t have to fear the Animate Spell could be the Target of a Counterspell then you just cast another one. Necromancy with its instant Speed has become even more important.

How do you Sideboard? Well i have got some problems to find room for enough stuf against keeper. 2 verdant Forces, 3 Pernicious Deeed , maybe 2 Defense Grid? but what do you guys side out? Especially against ISOKeeper i want to leave the 4 Squees in the Deck for the drawing engine which is quite important against ISO. Compulsion is also quite important like Intuition to get a dragon in the Graveyard and the drawing engine started. But well the Xandits are ok if the opponent can`t deal with it Deed are also great against ISO and i thing The defense Grid is a nice Idea! Why don`t you play Cunning Wish in your MD ... it is quite useful first you can use it as alternate Win condition or you can search for things like Stifle, (Stroke), Chain of Vaipor or Rebuild..

The problem about Xandit swarm is that they are easy targets for Fire and you have to wait another round till you can attack with them. I have testet them against ISO Control and i had expect they would do better ;-( i am not really confident. The reason to Change the Force of Will to Swarms sounds logical theoreticaly but practically ???
What Sideboard Cards do you use esprecially against ISO ??
