I spoke to Tommy from Richmond Comix about this and he asked me to post the below message for him.  I, personally, would love to see a good turnout as it would mean more Vintage in my hometown.

Hi there Vintage players,

My name is Tommy and I am the T.O. for the Richmond City Champs Type 1 Vintage tournament. I want to thank you guys for your interest and I need to apologize and explain a little bit here at the start. When I decided to run a “city champs” here in Richmond I decided to try running a different type of tournament every week in August. We’ve had Type 2, Booster Drafts and Elder Dragon Highlander and tomorrow is the last of these tournaments. I honestly didn’t expect the response from the Vintage community as this was a tournament in the middle of a series but I’m glad it happened.

For tomorrows tournament we will be giving the winner and box of M10 and second place will get an unlimited Berserk. My hope is that we can run a Vintage tournament every 4 to 6 weeks with more appropriate prize support to the format. Our response tomorrow will determine the feasibility of my Type 1 plan so I hope to see a lot of you in the morning.

4  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / T1 in Richmond? on: November 25, 2008, 11:56:57 pm
I am returning to the US after working abroad for a while.  I'll be living in the Richmond VA area (Midlothian) and am looking to play some Magic.  T1 would be great but, honestly, I'd just like to play period.  I took a quick look through the 'List of Stores' thread but didn't see anything close by.  Any TMD'ers in the area or does anyone have any suggestions on where I can go?

I suppose this is only tangentaly related to what you were looking for but I recently found an interview with Mike Long from 98 that is far kinder than most anything else I have read with/about him.

I'm sorry, Sex deck?  I don't know it and I am sure you can imagine my googling success with "sex deck".  Would someone mind posting a link or a brief rundown for me  please?

@Prometheon  If you dont like the negators I would swap them out for Skittering Skirges or Skittering Horrors.  The new Hunted Horrors might be worth looking into but would probably require EE.  I personaly hate Drinker of Sorrow
12  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Black Fish on: October 12, 2005, 04:00:20 pm
I like the new list much more (it's much closer to what I have been working on Wink ).
The thing I would suggest you test from there would be something more like this.  With chains out the confidants give you an excellent draw engine that is a hindrance to your opponent.  If the life loss starts to get out of hand you should be able to offset it with the jitte or sac'ing the confidants for your therapies.  This might come down to a playstyle issue but this has been working better for me.

Beats:
3 Mesmeric Fiend
4 Withered Wretch
3 Phyrexian Negator
4 Dark Confidant

Watchwolf is some sexy cheapmeat but if you try to add in vial you still run into the same problem with SField.  What would you suggest cutting to make room for the third and fouth COTV ?
14  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Black Fish on: October 11, 2005, 09:40:33 am
I agree, I really like the wretch.  Being able to his his ability in response is a big deal.  At the end of their turn  being able to select as many cards as you would like is a fun bonus.  I tried out the ninja rat because of the easier mana cost and found it to limited for my tastes.

To see some other people thoughts on it here is another mono B fish thread

If you want some thoughts on B/x there are two threads going righ now  here and here that might be interesting.

Now I am all for mono b fish but i don't really agree with your build.  Chains+Confidant = sexy.  Therapy goes well with the confidants and fiends as well.  Contagion is  a good call but darkblast might be more convenient (and easier with the confidant).  Can you tell I like confidant?

And why would you play coretapper in beatdown? Jitte?
I think thats what he was going for, but I don't dig it either.  I played against someone who was trying it out and it just seemed cumbersome.
16  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Jungle Lion Stompy {G/W} on: October 10, 2005, 08:27:48 am
@Mantis - the fetches do run into a problem with the four SFields in the deck.  I agree with you about Land Grant though, I never much liked it.

@JRO - Definitely not tech.  Unfortunate that it works that way.  I had anticipated it differently, time stamps and all.
17  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Jungle Lion Stompy {G/W} on: October 03, 2005, 12:14:03 pm
Would tithe be better than land grant?  I'm not convinced that it is becuase there is such a low land count but it is a possibility because it can nab two savanahas at once at times.

<edit>
a few other thoughts.

I would swap out a lion to put in Isamaru for slightly more beef for the same cost.

Temple garden might be good here as well.  I may be wrong but can't you pay the 2 life to get around your own root maze with it?

Good lord, they really do have a lot of ads now

I really like all the short quips the have (/had  it has been a while since I read it regularly) down the side.  Such as :

lmao, perfect!
I just printed a few copies of that to use as casual proxies.
I still have my revised birds so this is probably about as pimped as they will get.
20  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: B/W Fish on: September 26, 2005, 08:41:18 pm
whats that 5/3 creature from legions that was just like negator with less of s downside?? he might be better in the deck cause if her get hit hard you dont lose your board.
You are thinking of drinker of sorrow
21  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Dark Confidant - Just another weenie? on: September 26, 2005, 05:22:02 pm
I would not be surprised at all to see him get some play.  Confidant loves cards like brainstorm and he really likes chains (see my post over in the black fish thread).

As far as Dimir Guildmage goes... WGD maybe?  Four mana isn't that much of a concern when you are combo'ing out.  Mind twisting the opponent, drawing your deck, and milling your opponent out seems pretty fun to me.
22  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Black Fish on: September 23, 2005, 12:29:49 pm
4 moxen and 4 cotv? Do you have problems with those working against each other a little and providing dead draws?

Tutors are mostly bad.  Consultation is ok because of its instant speed and no card disadvantage, but Seal and Vamp and Demonic just aren't good in the deck.

Maybe it's personal tasted but I cant think of any black deck I have ever built that didn't want demonic tutor in it.  Hell, I want to put it in my t2 decks.  I prefer it to dem. consult.  but they both have their advantages.
23  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Black Fish on: September 22, 2005, 06:25:32 pm
Yeah, the seal was a bad call.  Swapped out for Dem. Consult.

What would you suggest swapping out for the needles?   Maybe swap out the oppressions for needles in the SB?
24  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Black Fish on: September 22, 2005, 04:27:56 pm
Ah... plaguebearer, sorry, i was thinking of plague spitter.

I think you might be looking at a different decklist.  Mine is in reply #173 on page 6.  Deed would be a bit difficult with my list with the low curve it has.
25  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Best basic lands on: September 22, 2005, 03:48:44 pm
Damn you for testing my willpower!
Lots of fun stuff there
26  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Black Fish on: September 22, 2005, 03:43:15 pm
There were some posts a few pages back in the thread talking about plaguebearers.  While I really like the card (mainly for multiplayer) it ddidn'tquite seem to fit right.  I was trying to use engineered plague the SB as a facsimile.

After testing my SB was about as bad as i expected.  And the loss of negator beef is a real downer.  I may end up trying to take out the skirges and swap them in?  Maybe take out 4 skirges for 3 negators and an edict?  Tough call for me because the list felt pretty tight and the skirges were the only form of evasion.

Admittedly my testing is stunted.  Goldfishing only goes so far and trying to play both sides of the table is a mess. My play group mostly consists of people that I have tought and have  smaller card pools.  I live in Richmond, so I would love to take the deck to try out this weekend....   If confidant were legal...  If the SB was functional...

Edit : I can't spell for shit.
27  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Black Fish on: September 22, 2005, 02:04:13 pm
I tested out the version I posted above and found it to be very fun but very inconsistent.  Sometimes there would be amazingly explosive starts and sometimes I would be dead before I did anything relevant.
As cheap as everything is it still seems to want more acceleration.  I toyed around with taking out some of the swamps for other moxen but it got a bit touchy with a lot of the BB costs.  Then I toyed around with taking out some strips for moxen but then it couldn't stop the other decks from gaining as much momentum.
It often feels like it should be working and just falls short.
28  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: What card do you like the most? and WHY? on: September 20, 2005, 08:10:45 pm
Guardian Beast

About ten years ago I traded my comic collection into a store for a bunch of mtg singles.  Guardian beast was the most expensive one of them.  What a stupid stupid move on my part, but the card has been a soft spot for me ever since.  And no, I never use him.  And never really did.
29  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Black Fish on: September 20, 2005, 02:27:07 pm
I think thats a very good call. I just have a bit of infatuation with the seal since I picked one up pretty cheap.  The only cards that are less than 3 of's in the list are restricted.

edit : That was not as clear as it should have been.  I agree that you are right.  I am switching it now and sleeving it up.
30  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Black Fish on: September 20, 2005, 01:48:02 pm
Bit of a long read here but there were some very fun ideas.  I had been toying around with something similar and wrote up a list adding in a lot of the thoughts from this thread.
I really liked the interaction between chains and confidant and tried to set it up to optimize that. The highest mana cost MD is 2 and SB is 3.   I'm not sure how I like the collection of tutors though , mainly because of the life loss .  I wanted to keep them cheap and I didnt expect much of a tempo loss from vamp and imp. seal because of the 4 confidants.  It really hurt to take the negators out but the flow seems better now.  All the vials can be set to the same ammount and the loss of life (and permanents) will be lessened.
I am pretty happy with the level of disruption but am worried that the clock is not fast enough.  It's going to have problems with null rod and will absolutely die to cotv for one and two.  The sideboard is admitedly hodge podge but there are a lot of holes that the sideboard is going to have to plug.
*Armchair theorizing warning : I am at work at the moment so please understand that I have not had a chance to test it out.

2 = 23
