You still have to play three extra. It's the same as with every other alternative casting cost, e.g. Force.
2  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Premium Article] So Many Insane Plays: The Return of Burning Long! on: January 09, 2013, 07:42:37 am
I played the exact list in Hanau, was 4-1, could not draw in and had to play, and lost against Snapcaster control. My another loss was against Dregde, where I kept hands that relied on Oath, and he had Darkblast to keep it never triggering. I felt that with just a little tighter play those both matches could have been winnable.

Wonderful, I was just about to PM Stephen about his new sideboard plans, and he responds with an article!

Your latest list has 61 cards. I cut Ponder and didn't miss it when I went 4-1 with a similar list last Saturday.

Enemy colour talismans. Come on, one time!
6  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Rachet Bomb on: September 17, 2010, 12:37:00 am
One small thing that hasn't mentioned yet is that you can still ramp Powder Keg under Null Rod even though you can activate neither. Obviously no difference unless you have another way to remove Rod, which most decks have post-board.
7  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: What's your profession? on: September 09, 2010, 01:18:50 am
Checked science and IT as I teach them in elementary, but could've checked "other" as well, as most of it is just shepherding kids.
8  Eternal Formats / Workshop-Based Prison / Re: Getting roundhoused kicked by a Tyrannosaurus Rex aka the BR Stax primer on: January 16, 2010, 03:28:30 am
I like 3rd Ring effect in place of a Badland. SB cards I mostly want are red or colorless anyways, Tabernacle in particular was sweet. I'd play Mana Crypt if I had room. My SB plan against Oath has been to ignore it and I have yet to lose a match against it. I'd go with 3 Gargadons if I suspected heavy Oath meta, along with Mazes if I still have then.

But with Lodestone Golem around, I think we have to rethink if this one is the best approach to Shop archtype or is more aggressive version better. I have already played similar BR list with just Juggies instead of Stacks and had positive results.

I still dislike the lack of synergy between Moon effects and 5 islandwalkers.  Confused

I played BR Stax and went 4-2-1.

At least a handfull of players will be coming from here Finland. I for myself find the dates great, because it is difficult to me skip any days at work, but I have long semesters like every teacher does.

In the brandon's semis when he wins game one and his opponent tells the judge he didn't unsideboard after the quaters shouldn't the judge had given him another game loss instead of a warning sending brandon to the finals considering it was a 48k event?

I don't know about how the exact situation went and was resolved, but here is how official documents put it.

Quote from: Infraction Procedure Guide
2.2. Deck Error — Deck/Decklist Mismatch
Definition
A player is considered to have a mismatch when the contents of their deck do not match their decklist. This includes players who have lost cards from their main deck, have cards from a previous opponent in their decks, have additional cards with their sideboard, have sideboard cards in their main deck at an incorrect time, or whose decks do not otherwise match their decklists. This infraction applies to tournaments for which decklists are being used and includes most errors involving the sideboard.

The penalty can be downgraded by head judge if infraction (SB cards in) is noticed when drawing an opening hand, otherwise it should be a game.
12  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Helsinki 7th March Mox Tournament - Results and Decklists on: March 15, 2009, 11:33:27 am
Well, I can tell. In our top 8 match I mulled to 5, Malin had two Bazaars, and I drew no mana other than my opening Waste+Shop. Second game I keeped Bazaar and Leyline, hoping to draw into Waste. It never came up. In finals I watched Malin win through three consecutive Wastelands and Triskelion removing his board and two Bridges just before it. That guy is just invincible, he topdecks like a pro all the time.
13  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Helsinki 7th March Mox Tournament - Results and Decklists on: March 13, 2009, 04:36:25 pm
Helsinki is in Finland, Swedes were mentioned only as rare non-Finnish players.

Hannu's list should have 4 Daze in it.
14  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Helsinki 7th March Mox Tournament - Results and Decklists on: March 12, 2009, 09:15:52 am
Interesting how the only one without Null Rod got to the finals.

Because the Tezzered player playing against him in semis was a kid inexperienced with the deck. No idea how that kid won against Uba Stax, though.
15  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Helsinki 7th March Mox Tournament - Results and Decklists on: March 12, 2009, 03:48:10 am
Do note how poorly Tezzeret did in face of that much artifact disruption. It has to do with the fact that many seasoned vintage players opted for workshops, but workshops really kept Tezzeret in check in this tournament.

At least here in Finland, Workshops are the decks to beat. I think the list I played was amazing except SB Eon Hubs, which should have been Jailers. Null Rod and Bazaar + Confidant are so strong, and SB Darkblasts were essential in the meta.

The tournament itself ran very smoothly. Atmosphere was very casual while games remained competitive. There will be more of these to come.

This event is only six days away! There will be about 90 € in the prize pool in addition to entry fees. If we got over sixty players, we'll move the last tables to the corridor, so don't hesitate to come, there'll be room for every one in the tournament.

Bump. By request, here's a straight link to the main tournament info and discussion: http://vaihdetaan.kapsi.fi/forums/index.php?topic=58993.0 (linking an URL with a question mark didn't work somehow - hey, now it works  Surprised). Though discussion there is mostly Finninsh, post your questions/rant/thrash talk in English and you will be answered in English.

There will be at least some Swedes in attendance in addition to us Finns. Looks like the event is really catching on!

I went undefeated on a small local tourney with a list like above. I had 2 'seizes and no Colossus, a lone Cabal Ritual instead of I. Seal and Extirpate in place of boarded 'seize. The Extirpate didn't really convince me, but the 5th ritual was phenomenal. My board was great, I lost like every game on and won two post board. Confidants really are the way to go.
22  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Meandeck Open - Top 8 Results (Feb. 24, 2008) on: February 25, 2008, 03:40:36 pm
Why is no Flash player running Ponder? I have had totally positive experiences with the card in the deck. Theory supports them as well as practice.
23  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Which [Budget]-Deck is the best for a unknown meta? on: December 31, 2007, 09:02:21 am
I'd play budget Flash without a blink. You only need two duals, you can play Petal, Chrome Mox, Mana Crypt and two ESG:s as you acceleration, and the rest of the deck costs just peanuts. I have a really nice budget list which got me 2nd in local tourney, PM me if you are interested.

And Goblins just needs MD Leyline at it is the only turn 0 disruption they can have.
24  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Empty Gifts on: October 03, 2007, 05:15:04 am
I think win conditions should not occupy more than two slots, so Tinker-Colossus would be the first to cut. Please at least consider Fact and Twister in the deck, draw power they give is just ridiculous. We have played with similar manabase -Library -Sol Ring -card +Crypt +Petal +land. Crypt may be liability without Tinker, we have not made final judgement on it.

Our disruption base differs so that we run second Misdirection and 0-2 Drains, and Chain of Vapor has been our MD bounce of choice. But they are somewhat meta dependable like having F/I or not.
25  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: 8th At Indi with Empty Gifts on: September 20, 2007, 07:19:21 am
My friends have been developing a deck similar to this couple of months already. The main difference is that we play lone ETW as the only win condition main deck and opt for more draw in form of Fact and Twister instead. The philosophy behind our deck is to run as few blanks as possible. This has an edge against GAT because it has the same engine and same disruption, but it draws into real business when GAT draws into green and filler cards.

We have tried to make creator of the deck to make a thread about it here, but he felt his English is too poor or had some other lousy explanations. Hope he'll finally open his mouth here.

I've played Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Hockey for years and I'm definitely in. I'm used on Rotisserie type of league and I would prefer that to Head-to-Head setting.

Windborn Muse might be better than Ghostly Prison, because it's not that much harder to cast and is less dead in other matchups. That is, if it's propanganda effect we are looking for, which might not be the case.

How about Orb of Dreams? It could be very effective against GAT, but it has to come down really soon to be effective. It also slows Ichorid down a bit though is not a definite answer.

I thought 9 spheres would work very well versus GAT. The problem is that they only have to resolve one creature as they can easily afford to pay 2 colorless to make it attack.

After latest unrestrictions, this deck begins to look more and more appealing. Couple of questions:

1. Ghostly Prison. While obviosly good against Ichorid and to some extent goblin tokens and randomness, does the card really have place in maindeck? It does nothing to stop Tendrils, and GAT only needs to attack with one creature as they have time to build it up.

2. Morph creatures. What's wrong with the good ol' Jotun Grunt? He costs less and has often positively relevant ability to boot.

3. No Strips? You won't always have Magus.

4. The SB seems rather weak and I believe much improvement can be made here.

5. Any change to build the list without moxen? I was thinking of replacing them by Chrome, Diamond and some Cities of Traitors. Do you think it would be workable enough?

I'd cut Seething Songs first, because they are the worst rituals. You should have plenty of mana even without, and won't lose so much when one is countered. I'd leave in 3-4 Chromatics though, they are still needed and provide some card draw with Welder if things go ugly.
