Where is Fastbond?  This is an absolute must in Turboland.  Once you draw into it, your chances of winning the game increase dramatically.  I like the direction you took with the deck though...with the new release of gush from the restricted list, I am also looking forward to playing this deck!

Timing is critical.  In the control mirror, the outcome is almost always determined by who resolves Recall.  It goes beyond "having more counters than your opponent".

But the same could be said of gifts.  You need to know when to cast gifts as well.  The difference between the two cards is that gifts requires way more decision-making.  Knowing when to cast something is a skill that is required no matter what the spell

I don't think gifts (or any card) should be restricted for being too skill-intensive.  Magic consists of skill and a little luck, and both parts make the game enjoyable.  I do agree with one part though...it does seem that a casual player would have a hard time getting into Vintage.  In my opinion, it seems that vintage players have forgotten about the casual players that helped jump-start the format.  However, just because entering vintage is intimidating to the casual player, doesn't mean that good cards should be restricted for your benefit.  Take the time to increase your skill - you have to crawl before you can walk.

A Fireball for 20 would be perfect if had split second because it couldn't be responded to..... That's a definite win!!!  That's why the mana cost isn't that important when it comes to split second.  If someone was on the other side of that fireball with a mana drain in hand, that would be different.  But split second insures that the spell will resolve.

I think that people are underestimating the power of these split second cards.  The spell is guaranteed to resolve, and cannot be responded to.  As long as the effect is powerful enough, the casting cost is for the most part, irrelevant.

Wow...I guess it does work then.  That's some interesting interaction.  Congrat's on the good find.

I think it's important to keep in mind that you don't have to play this version of gifts if it doesn't suit your style.  There are many versions of gifts decks, and this is just one.  As long as you don't remove the core of the deck, you should do just fine.  For example, you could use duress over misdirection if you wish, or use a combination of merchant scrolls with TFK or skeletal scrying.  It just depends on what you prefer.  I do think you should check out the gifts primer just to get an idea of how the deck functions.

SCG definately has the most expensive prices for any dealer.  It's ridiculous.  The only thing positive worth mentioning is that because their prices are so high, usually most things are available.  As mentioned earlier, they also have a good rating system for the cards.  But you can find a better deal for power and other good cards at most card conventions.

Actually, I would say you are 100% wrong here.  While they don't have welder removal, like you stated, most decks playing against UbaStax would win MUCH more if they went for the fastest Tinker humanly possible (for Trike or Colossus) meaning use any tutor you can to find tinker and cast it turn 2/3.  Save your force/drain for the welder.  Thats it.  Tinker is my worst enemy, and anyone who plays first turn blue mana/mox and mysticals for recall instead of tinker is my best friend.  And I apparently have a lot of best friends.

It should be fairly difficult to go for the Tendrils kill with all the lock pieces bearing down on you unless you can get off a few quick massive artifact bounce/destruction spells.  I would always go for the Colossus kill against UbaStax

I'd have to agree with this perspective here.  I also think the best way to deal with Stax is to keep welders off the table at all costs.  Welders are what make the deck function.  A well timed rebuild or chain can allow you the time you need to win.

Im sure in time there will be more cards that can exploit hatching plans, but a the moment I can only think of two cards that even have a shot: Perilous research, and Abjure

I think vise warps the metagame by making card advantage based control strategies unviable.  Whether we've reached that point in vintage through the natural evolution of the metagame is a seperate issue, but I think CS would have a rough time if it couldn't have 6,7 or 8 cards in hand on it's upkeep.
Vise is not as powerful as you suggest, especially as a one of.  Control decks typically have a way of dealing with threats due to large amounts of draw and search, not to mention countermagic.  There are tons of ways to deal with a one casting cost artifact - (powderkeg, engineered explosives, echoing truth, etc.)
