Tokens have names by default. If the effect that creates them doesn't specify one, their name is their subtype. In this case, the tokens would be named Construct. Dark Depths is an example of a card that creates a token with a specific name.

Tokens are not, however, cards, which was the point of the critique.
2  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Free Article] So Many Insane Plays -- Rogue Hermit: The Fastest Deck in Vintage on: February 13, 2013, 11:16:41 pm
This deck is crazy fast.  Fairly easily disrupted, but still damn fast.

I have been goldfishing this a little.  I have run into several hands that would win on the first turn, except that I had either Angel or Azami or Lab Man or Dread Return in my hand and couldn't hard cast it.  What are your thoughts on having a Phantasmagorian in the main deck?

You Cabal Therapy yourself to get those out of your hand.
3  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Karma - Chinese Tolarian Academy on: January 25, 2013, 03:19:54 pm
I totally would love to get that wonderful card.

I have two stories.  My first cards were a Revised Starter deck that I got at Target for $6.99, which was a ton of money for me at the time.  My rares were Kudzu and Savannah.  It took a few more weeks before I could get a couple more boosters, but I finally had enough cards where I was willing to divide the cards in half and play against my younger brother.

Anyhow, we had a nice long game, right up until the point where he was about to win, and I played, and then the next turn activated, Nevinyrral's Disk.  Suffice it to say, my brother was not happy.  His unhappiness was expressed by him taking the remainder of his deck (or maybe mine, I don't remember), and throwing it across the basement.  Parental involvement was required.  We didn't play Magic together anymore after that.

The other story is a few years later, when I was in high school.  A bunch of guys got together for a mini "tournament."  This was right after Tempest came out, I believe.  Anyhow, I was playing a red deck, that was actually trying to be good.  You know, 60 cards, no garbage, etc.  Anyhow, I was matched up against one fella whose deck was about 200 cards.  I proceeded to have the worst luck ever, couldn't draw well to save my life, and lost in a quick 0-2.  The host of this tournament happened to have a sword in his house.  I am not sure why.  but I subsequently decided my decks failure needed to be responded to by whacking the deck a few times with the sword.

I guess my brother and I really are related.  I like to think I am much more mellow now.

My guess is that this is a troll post.  I'm willing to rescind that guess with the presentation of proof.  I doubt I'll need to.
5  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Almost but not quite, 9th place at Grudge Match III on: August 19, 2011, 03:16:13 pm
If I may be so bold as to suggest, you fellas need to write more about this deck and your successes with it.  I greatly enjoy reading tournament reports and the like about the deck.  With all your success, I am amazed to not see more copycat lists out there.  So please keep it up, write more about the deck, etc.  Congrats on your nice finish, even if you'd have liked to be one higher.
6  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: Gush Control (Constructive Criticism Requested) on: July 25, 2011, 10:21:16 am
So, when sideboarding this deck vs. Shops, what do you take out?  Obviously, the big gobs of Artifact hate and maybe extra basics slides on it, but what is coming out besides Misstep?
7  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / A question for Mathematicians/Statisticians on: October 01, 2010, 12:15:07 pm
What is the proper way to calculate the odds of, when you draw Mox Opal, drawing 2 additional artifacts.  I assume that the important pieces of information are the number of cards in your deck, and the number of non-Mox Opal artifacts in your deck, and I guess the number of cards you draw.  But I am not gifted with numbers, and I was hoping that someone would provide the appropriate equations.

Likewise, what is the equation to calculate the odds of drawing 2 Mox-Opals in a given hand?

Thanks for nay help that can be provided.
8  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Re: Skittles on: June 16, 2010, 09:12:52 pm
Do the From the Vault sets affect Skittles legality?  The last one printed a couple of goodies at what is technically Mythic rarity.  Does this disqualify Skullclamp, Top, and any others, or is it excluded for consideration on account of the fact that it is a promotional release?
9  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Rumors/Previews/mtg.com articles on: March 24, 2010, 10:11:32 am

2)  Fully activated it negates an opponent's Vault-Key.

Correct me if I am wrong; wouldn't the opponent just wait to activate Key + Vault until after this trigger resolves.  Then their free turn would occur before your anyway.  Or am I getting that interaction wrong?
10  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Cockatrice - intended as successor to MWS on: March 06, 2010, 12:04:50 am
I would guess that you simply didn't set the path to the cards.xml file correctly. You need to do this in the configuration dialog after generating the file. The same is true for the pics directory.

Considering I have no idea what that means, I am going to guess this is the culprit.  Can you tell me how to do this?

Run the program, go in the "Cockatrice" menu, then "Settings". There are 3 fields for Deck directory, Pictures Directory, and Card Database. Use the "Card Database" field to point it to the "cards.xml" file in your oracle folder. Don't forget the "Download cards picture on the fly" checkbox.

That was the problem, the fix worked great, and now I am in.  Thanks!

I feel un-smart - I downloaded this last night, but cannot get any cards to show up in the deck editor.  I am sure I did something wrong, but I don't know what.  Please help me - I am un-smart.

You have to import the cards running the "Oracle.exe" program.

I think I did that.  I found the Oracle.exe program and ran it, it retrieved data from all sorts of Magic sets.  But when I ran Cockatrice.exe, and opened the deck editor, there were no cards in it.  I typed titles into the search function and hit enter, but nothing showed up.

14  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Free Articles] Thoughts on Breaking the Reserve List & Solutions to the High Pr on: March 02, 2010, 01:16:40 pm
As per Steve's article on SCG, I don't think this is the case. If Vintage becomes more popular, than Vintage pimp will be even more valuable. I mean really, who would run a new frame foil Lotus over a Beta lotus? IMHO, only those who can;t afford the pimpness (like me;)

Steve's article made some good points, but his argument on original retaining their value being entirely articulated around Alpha and Beta doesn't take into account around 80% of Power, and 99% of dual lands.

Exactly.  All these folks arguing for reprints, claiming values will not drop, citing comic books reprints, are ignoring one fact - Unlimited was already a "reprint" of sorts of power.  They have value because, though they are a reprint, the are scarce and have a function (as the one of the only available sources of playable cards).  My marginal condition unlimited cards are not going to weather the storm of a power reprint, no matter how many times any one wishes to claim otherwise.  Mint Alphas and Betas - sure.  Played Alpha and Beta, maybe.  But played Unlimited - the values will tank to reach an equilibrium with whatever new printing there is, or perhaps even go lower if the reprint is BB and non-foil.  There is simply no reason for it not to.  This is not Action Comics #1, the value of which is based upon its originality, uniqueness, scarcity, and desirability versus reprints.  When talking about unlimited cards, this is something that is already a reprint trying to compete with other reprints.   An Action Comics reprint from 2009 and one from 1970 are both still reprints, and have negligible functional difference.
15  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: First Eldrazi released (Spoiler) on: March 01, 2010, 03:38:09 pm
Tracer, if that were the case, creatures who can't be countered wouldn't work either. It seems just fine.

if this is the case, then you'll draw even if the creature never hits the battlefield, which again seems unlikely. I'm not saying the spoiled creature is a fake, just that the wording seems unlikely to the point of incorrect.

The card was spoiled straight of the WotC website.  It is not fake, the wording is not incorrect.  The way the rules are constituted (as I understand them), you will indeed draw 4 card if you cast the big fella (barring Stifle-like shenanigans).
16  Eternal Formats / Bazaar-Based Decks / Re: Meadbert Manaless Ichorid Primer on: November 01, 2009, 06:25:43 pm
I am pretty sure that E-Truth should end up in your yard, as, at the point it is trying to go to the yard (after spell resolved), there is nothing in play sending it anywhere else.

It resolves and my opponent and I weren't sure wheter or not the Echoing Truth gets RFG-ed, the judge informs us it does. In my upkeep I activate Bazaar find Stinkweed Imp + another card, so 2 cards in graveyard. Dredging Imp would leave me with 1 card short of Threshold and I am unable to activate Cephalid Coliseum, the top of my deck yields nothing and it's gg. How ironic, my opponent didn't want me to call a judge because he was fine with the E Truth ending up in the yard as he wanted to hurry up and avoid a draw (we were close to time), if that were the case, I might have just stolen the game and snuck into T8 instead of him (I was 3-1 at the time and he was able to draw in).

Hi, my wife and I will be vacationing in the Galena, IL area soon.  I am wondering if there are any stores that are "vintage relevant" (that is to say, they have a selection of singles available, not all type 2) within an hour or so of Galena that anyone would recommend.  Thanks for your input.

20  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Major Rules Changes Announced!!! on: June 09, 2009, 11:45:53 pm
Not being able to float mana from the Upkeep through the draw step seems borderline relevant.  It is a change that helps out Stax, since now a player can;t tap the mana with a Tangle Wire trigger on the stack, hoping to use it to play a card drawn.
21  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: [Report] Top 2 in Breda with GWSx on: April 13, 2009, 01:42:47 pm
Cast tendrils for storm 5, it resolves, then cast it for storm 6, since you have priority.

That doesn't work does it?  You have a priority pass in between each copy of tendrils resolving, at any point during this he can extirpate you.

The Tendrils card doesn't go to the graveyard until it resolves.  All storm copies resolve before the actual initial spell resolves.  When that initial spell resolves, you again have priority with an empty stack, to play your second Tendrils.  They could extirpate the one now in the grave in response, but it would do nothing to the new Tendrils now on the stack.

Decent Chance that Duress is going to be in M10

The newest Feature Article at mtg.com is a preview of Duel Decks: Divine vs. Demonic.  In the article, they clarify that the reason there are 7 new arts for this deck as opposed to the 6 of other decks is that they got to use an M10 art for one of the cards.  The other arts are well suited for this setting (the angels, the Demons, Demonic Tutor, Faith's Fetters, Stinkweed Imp).  However, the Duress art shows spikes poking an Elf - definitely not well suited to this set.  Thus, it seems likely that this is the M10 art that got previewed in this set.

Isn't it banned in Legacy?

Today's Arcana shows that one of the cards with new art in the Divine vs. Demonic Duel Decks package is Demonic Tutor.

Seeing as how I hate foils, I am glad to be able to get a black-bordered, new card face Demonic Tutor for my deck.

The art is kind of questionable, though.  I suppose it is a Demon cursing Liliana, but it looks like he is planning on getting a little too "close", if you know what I mean.

Has anyone tried to play Skittles on MTGO?  Many of the more popular cards are available online, and if people played on there, it may be easier to find opponents (of course, MWS is cheaper, but still...)

Just curious if there are any other interested players on MTGO.

Hex, in your build, did you consider the use of Meditate as an additional bomb?  The skip a turn clause may not be too severe if you are winning on turn one.  It seems to me that one way to gain resiliency when the deck contains no disruption is to up the bomb count as much as feasible.  I am just curious if you had tested this possibility.

When you were playing the deck, were you fining that you had enough mana to get started (0 mana possibilities, lands, spirit guides, and the like)?  As I test, I find myself throwing hands back because they can't get started.

Thanks for posting the deck.

Just as a quick note.  I'm still using the single Tendrils as my lone kill condition.  However the removal of Tinker/Jar has lead to the addition of 1 merchant scroll and 1 Research.  I am JUST starting goldfish testing and will expand from there.  I just thought I would put it out there for the masses to look into.

Cheers
Haunted.

Haunted,
Can you expand a little bit on the thought process behind including Research (I am assuming of Research//Development fame)?  Is the research intended to provide some protection in case soemthing vital gets removed from the game?  Are you using it in a Doomsday pile?  Is there some other use I am missing.  It's inclusion intrigues me, and I would love to see some explanation of your thought process.

Peace

30  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Deck] GushMan on: March 26, 2008, 03:25:41 pm
This deck seems to have really slid under the radar.   I sleeved it up for some tests against my wife (so the level of play was low, since she doesn't care), but I was still pleased with the build.  One particularly memorable game was agaisnt Ichorid, where a first turn Fastbond into Gush into Scroll into Gush into Scroll (and so on) led to a first turn (O.K., a Time Walk aided second turn) win.  That was one particularly busted open.

After playing some games, I had a few questions:

1. In this build, I can see two primary purposes for Yawgmoth's Will:  First, to get way ahead by replaying your graveyard, and second, to replay a Time Walk to go for the win.  Is this about on track, or am I missing something?

2.  How has Tinker/Colossus worked out for you?  It seems like an alternative win to Trinket/Salvager Beats or comboing out, but it does seem to be pushing the aggressive aspects of the deck.  I may be playing this wrongly, however.

3.   Have you revamped the anti-Oath plan at all?  I know you expressed some mis-givings about the plan, and with the accelerated rise of Tidespout Oath, it certainly is a meta-threat.

4. What is your best response to the new Flash deck?  I imagine similar to the Ichorid plan in terms of what comes in, but what changes in terms of deletions?

5. Sol Ring over Mana Crypt/Duress over Thoughtseize - are these decisions mainly a desire to protect the life total?

I appreciate the responses.
