1  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: What Deck? on: May 10, 2013, 09:11:27 am
My first tournament in this format, I think Doomsday would be too hard for me to play. I did look at it and it looks cool, but I think I am a long way from ready.

I have Grixis and Bomberman built, just need to pick.

Thanks for the response. I am very new to the format and have my first tournament tomorrow. Only 12 hours left to decide what to play.

Bomberman was the first deck I looked at and it seems like it is pretty solid. I have played some games with it but some times found that I had a bunch of Trinket Mages and nothing good to do with them. I could search for a bunch of mana and Top but it wasn't helping me to win. I often wished that some of them were other cards. I don't think I have seen any lists with less than 4 Trinket Mage so I assume it is a very important part of the deck.

After that I saw a Grixis deck that I liked the look of (Strix/Welder) and have been playing that since. I quite enjoy playing that deck but wonder if I am being distracted by the power of doing cool things rather than a deck that just wins.

I am guessing the tournament tomorrow will be mostly Control decks followed by Shops decks with little to no aggro at all. You mentioned the Cavern being important, does Bomberman have a good control match? It feels like it should. What about the Shops match?

It seems like the match up against Dredge would be ok but I am not expecting a lot of that to show up.

Its probably a little late to ask for advice as the tournament is tomorrow, but what deck would you play if you had an idea what the meta game would be.

Here is roughly what I am expecting:

1 Bomberman
1 Burning Tendrils
1 U/R Standstill
1 or 2 Dredge
2 Oath Decks
3 Workshop Decks
4 Grixis Decks

There will probably (hopefully) be more players than that but I would expect the percentages to stay about the same with a possible movement to there being more control decks.

At the moment I am leaning heavily towards Strix/Welder Grixis, are there certain cards I should favour over others with these match ups in mind?

Would playing 0 Dredge hate be a terrible idea?

Thanks for any help.

I was wondering if anyone could talk to me a little bit about this deck. It feels a little underpowered compared to what a lot of decks are running.

What are the advantages to running this over another control deck like Grixis?

I see this deck is putting up a lot of good results but it is mostly all one person. Is the deck that good or is it just down to an amazing pilot?

Cool, thanks

Dont know if this has been answered before. I looked through the last 10 pages and didnt see it.

If a player uses Bazaar and replaces the draw with dredging when can they resolve the narcomeba if they are dredging more than once.

So lets say they dredge x cards, 1 is narcomeba it triggers goes on the stack until they have finished dredging. Do they then resolve the narcomeba trigger or continue onto the next dredge? Is there a choice?

Thanks I saw that, just didnt want to spam the place up just to get 10 posts Smile

Hopefully we get a good turn out for our event so the store will continue to run tournaments, at the moment I dont think there is anywhere to play in the whole country.

Hi first post on here. I wanted to post somewhere else but apparently you are not allowed Sad

I am new to vintage and am only getting the chance to play now as a store is running a 75 proxy tournament. I am pretty excited about this.

The event is this weekend and I am pretty sure I want to play Grixis, just trying to finalise the build. It will probably be strix/welder as I like what they do.

I do have some temptation to play Bomberman as I have seen it putting up a lot of good results except it is nearly always the same person.

Is Bomberman that good a deck or is it down to the player? I played some games with it and it feels kind of clunky. What is the advantage to playing this deck over Grixis?
